Best Handgun for Ergonomics

In my hand, a S&W N-Frame revolver with a 4" barrel and a set of Houge hardwood stocks. Hands, like opinions however, vary greatly depending on who they are attatched to so your hands and opinions may be very different from mine.

The 1911 is quite possibly the gun which good ergonomically for the most people. Maybe not the best for each person, but good to excellent for about everyone. A wide variety of grip options adds to this.

The Walther P99 for me too.

As a southpaw, I will state that nothing I've held beats the S&W M&Ps for overall ergonomics. It comes with 3 differently sized backstraps, ambi slide release, reversible mag release, and is available with an ambi thumb safety.

It fits my hand very nicely, has a low bore axis that helps significantly with recoil and muzzle flip, and points naturally.

IMHO, of course ;)

I'm kind of torn over the wording of the question.

Ergonomics is the discipline of arranging the environment to fit the person.

So to me that implies that the OP is asking "Which gun has the most easily reached and useable buttons/knobs/trigger/sights/takedown lever?"

I don't have alot of experience with handguns. Over the years I have fired:

Beretta 92F
Glocks
1911's
Springfield XD/XDm
S&W 5900 Series

I really like the Springfields, but I feel there are a couple of areas that they could be better. The magazine release button takes a crowbar to eject the magazine. I dislike Glocks "standard" release even more though. The Slide release on both guns is too small, it feels like it isn't "intended" for a users to actually use to release the slide.

So I don't really have a good answer since I'm not fond of the "ergonomics" of the handguns I'm familiar with. And I welcome the posters here to explain what functions of the actual "ergonomics" they are impressed with. Most of the responses I see are basically aimed at how the firearm "feels" in the users hands, and not actually how useable it is.

Ergonomics? Get a wheelgun!

Since this is the general handgun forum, I'd say it will surely be a revolver first. They are much simpler and smoother to operate than semiautomatics.

Then I'd narrow it a bit to a nice L-frame or N-frame S&W, with a 3-6 inch barrel... 686, 625, 627... all very easy, precise operations, and smooth and accurate shooting.

For me it's a virtual tie between my Smith & Wesson N-frames, equipped with wooden grips by a custom grip maker named Kurac, and my CZ 75B SA. It's interesting that two so differently designed and constructed guns can each fit my hand equally well. Kurac's product can be seen over at the S & W forum, btw.

i agree with radioflyer. the jericho 941 with hogue grips feels awesome in my hand. but as far a factory grips. i love my sig p226. but hogue grips make any gun feel like it was built for my hand.

As it was in the beginning, is now and forever shall be, The Browning Hi-Power fits the hand that shoots it, points naturally at the target and goes bang every time it's told to do so.
So endeth the lesson. :D

For me, it has to be the CZ-75 types and the many clones. Nothing has ever been as comfortable. Worst semiauto is the 1911. Too deep and too narrow.

Just about any 1911 I've ever held. With a few exceptions, I find most double stack pistol feels overly "fat" in my hands. My SIG P232 is a close second for comfort and fit.
