Best, cheapest gun

I bought a Taurus snub-nose .357 for $205 4 years ago. One of the best purchases I ever made. It can sit in my truck, I can CC it and is a good pistol for walking to and from the deer stand. What's the best, cheapest purchase you ever made on a hand gun?

my happiest cheap purchase would be my kel-tec pf9, hasn't let me down yet it's a hand full like a snub nose .357 but the recoil system takes most of that hand stinging jolt out of the equation but you will feel it in your hand for a day or two after you fire a few hundred rounds through it, for it's purpose you can't ask for a better buy, affordable reliable concealable light weight and it carries more ammo than the latter mention of a snub nose .357

my cheapest would be a sigma i loaned a friend $225 and the sigma was collateral i justify this all with the fact it is a temporary ownership haha
great reliable glove box gun... that's it though it works but i hate it

Brand new Sigma for 99 bucks. Not kidding. Dang shame, though, I had to buy a 460XVR to get the Sigma at that price.

The Bersa/Firestorm series seem to be quite good at the price, and shockingly accurate:

The 9mm/.40/.45 models are based on the Walther P88 design, and from what I've seen, are very reliable.

Despite earlier reservations, I've found myself warming to the S&W Sigma series. Stay on the lookout for good used S&W K-Frames (10, 15, 65, 67) as well.

I got a barely used G-20 for $300 once. Great gun, and cheap to pick it up. Too bad it's so expensive to shoot that 10mm.

I had a taurus .357 snub once, nothing but problems. I had, and have once again a PT145. That one has had over 1000 rounds through it, and never a problem. Most accurate pistol I have ever owned. Those are fairly cheap brand new, I think I paid about $370 for it. Not a bad deal if you get a good one.

Probably the best current deal generally available to anyone are CZ82s. For $150 to $200 you're getting an all steel hi-capacity semi-auto, although it is in 9mm Mak and additional magazines are kinda high.

Another generally available deal I think would be Sigmas, I picked up two used ones in 40S&W about 6 months ago for $199 each and I believe they can generally be had for around $250. For that you're getting a hi-capacity (14 to 15 rounds depending on the magazine you use) semi-auto in a great caliber, additional mags are about $20 each and S&W services them with essentially no questions asked. They do have a notorious heavy trigger pull but no more so than a DAO revolver.

Still another generally available deal that I think is over looked are used S&W Model 10s. Even today you can usually find used police guns for $150 to $200 if you spend a little extra effort in looking.

The CZ82s have been available for a while and haven't really dried up yet, you're getting a good deal because they are surplus. Generally the good deals come in waves and don't hang around very long. I would suggest getting your C&R and getting on the mailing list for the wholsalers. Often you'll be notified of deals on non-C&R handguns, that's how I ran into the Sigmas for $199....I've picked up GP100s for $159 or S&W Model 15s for $159 or Baretta 92FSs for $299 or P38s for $!99.

This is all aside from the misc deals you'll run into from individuals or the misc gunshop that's selling something and they don't know what they have.

SMith 64 4". Bought it for 200.00. A police trade in from Knoxville, TN. It had barely been shot. A great revolver.

Makarov. $136 out the door, 2001-ish. Can't be found that cheap now, alas.

I'm kind of transitioning away from them now, and I'm down to one, which mostly sits in the safe these days.

Once bartered flying lessons in exchange for a Colt Detective Special .38. Right after I took possession of the Colt, the guy changed jobs and moved. Got the gun for free as he told me to just keep it.

Best cheap gun?

 Why buy a new "cheap" gun in the first place. You are far better off to buy a used S&W, Ruger or Taurus revolver than a junk "new" gun. I would mention Colts but I can't seem to find a used cheap one of those anywhere.
Just my opinion. ;)

+1 on the Bersa. Not only inexpensive but even if you get other guns it will have a purpose as a very nice concealed handgun.

New: Bersa Thunder 380, $189.99

Used: S&W Model 15 Combat Masterpiece, <$200 out the door.

I find that, generally speaking, revolvers are much better buys in the used market than semi-autos. You can get a hand fitted high quality firearm made by a reputable manufacturer for usually no more than $3-400. Most models can be had in stainless which, unless severely gouged, can be polished back up or bead-blasted to look like new again. You can take something that looks old and beaten up but is still in perfectly fine mechanical condition and make it look like it was just made yesterday. That's not even considering the world of grip options you have to customize the gun to perfectly fit your hand.

Handguns? The Bersa Series 95 I got for $200 new was pretty good. But the Taurus M85 for less than $300 new was more useful for me since I need a pocketgun.
