Best all around hand gun?

alabama

If u were going to be stuck with only one hand gun for everything from self defense in the city to alaska bear defense what would it be and why?

my 4 in. Ruger GP100 Stainless.

.357 can defend me from bears and people and anything in between. Plus, it's a wheelgun which means it is extremely reliable and at 4 in., if I absolutely had to, I could conceal it.

makes a great truck gun and nightstand gun as well

cant go wrong with a GP100

I have never seen a bear in Iowa that wasnt in a cage.

I would dump the handgun and get me a rifle or a shotgun and slugs at the least.

What's the point of your question ?? / I see you asked the same thing about pump shotguns on the shotgun site ??

What are you trying to decide ?? / or what is the point ??

Alabama is going for the best of the best for everything eh?

Just as in your other thread there is a different and yet correct answer for everyone, respectively.

Shotgun, Rifles, and Handguns…..When can we expect the best all-around Knife?;)

If you can only have ONE, hard to beat a 4 or 6 inch .357 from a reliable maker, like a S&W Model 19 or Ruger GP-100 (both of which have already been mentioned). That comes about the closest to filling every handgun role.

Have to wonder, are you doing research for a gun ban? "Ban everything but 4-inch .357 magnums....it's the only gun anyone needs..." Just kidding (I hope...)

I think for me the closest I could get would be a Glock29 (10mm) with a spare 15 round mag. But I gots ta tell ya. I would **** my pants if I met a 800lb grizzly and that was all I had. I don't have to worry about that hear in Co.

In the city my SP101 3" or a S&W model 13 3"(if I had one) cause the 357 can get it done!
As far as the bear, I'd bring some bear spray!

I can not come up with a handgun that is a reasonable choice against a 800 pound bear and also a defensive handgun.

What I consider a reasonable handgun round against a 800 pound bear start with at least a 300gr .454 Casull (with a bullet that holds together in a tough target) and goes up from there. My defensive cartridge choice start below a full power .44 magnum and goes down from there to some subjective minimum.

So for me, one excludes the other.

Since it has to be able to handle bear, I pick a .44mag Redhawk with 5.5" barrel. If it was for ordinary home protection and daily ccw, I would pick a 442. However, since grizzlies are routinely tearing golfers limb from limb on the course across the street from my house in Tennessee, I will load-up the Redhawk with 300gr +P hardcast and go about my day.

There isn't a single gun that can claim to be "the best." If pressed, I'd go with a .357 or a .44 revolver by S&W as a pretty good choice.

Well another thread about just one gun gives me just another chance to show a picture of my Bowen Classic Arms tuned Ruger 357 Anniversary. It's hard to compare other 357's to it.

.454 Revolver, your flavor. Will digest anything from cat sneeze, CAS .45 colts to full house .454's.

Now for us in the lower 48 make it a 3-4" .357.
