Best 9mm

Browning HP

Just picking it up should be enough to make it hop into your collection. The gun just feels right.

That, and its a undeniable classic. Unlike, well, almost every other 9mm.

The one that fits your hand and intended purpose with it, should make it a pretty easy choice. What is its intent? Everyday gun, defensive, carry, target.......alot of good suggestions. HK USP c
Kahr, CZ, Sig etc.
Shoot well

That's like asking what is the best survival knife. . .

. . . the one you have with you when you need it.

Really, though, you can't go wrong with any of the moden 9mm from quality manufacturers. It all depends on what fits you.

Just my 2 pennies.

Get Walther P99. The accuracy is comparable to my P7M8, easy to clean, light weight, 16+1 rounds capacity.
The trigger, btw (IMHO), is better than my Sig 228.

Best 9mm? For what purpose?

Plinking? Showing off? Pride of ownership? Target practice?

or

CCW?

Almost anything that rings your chimes is the "Best" in the first category, but for CCW, things are different.

Compact, light, DAO, and expendable are my primary considerations for a 9mm CCW.

Compact because concealing a cannon isn't easy no matter what you may be told.

Light because if it's uncomfortable after a few hours, you won't carry it.

DAO because you don't have time to screw around with safeties, cocking, or racking if you NEED flying bullets in a hurry.

Expendable because there are jillions of possible situations where the police will confiscate it for a while, which may be the last time you ever see it.

That leaves three candidates: Kahr P9 (or MP9), Taurus PT-111, or Kel-Tec P-11. They all have comparable lifetime (of the gun) warranties.

Being the most expensive of the lot, Kahr's aren't as "expendable" plus they don't have the 10+1 capacity of the other two, but they are fine pistols.

The Taurus is more expensive than the Kel-Tec, plus the Kel-Tec is easy to "smith" yourself if its fit and function don't exactly ring your chimes.

Bottom line: "Best" is subjective, and one size DOESN'T fit all. If you want to narrow your choices to just one, you've got some homework and research to do!

Your needs will dictate the choice of gun. For general target use and home defense, a full-size 9mm pistol like the Beretta 92, Ruger P-series, Glock 17, CZ75B, or Sig P226 will work.

If you plan to carry it, you'll want to scale down to a compact or sub-compact 9mm. Suggestions include the Beretta 8000 Cougar, Glock 19 or 26, CZ75 Compact/PCR, or Sig P228 (double-stack) or P239 (single-stack, slimline).

You need to decide what features are important to you. If you want a simple manual of arms, consider the Sigs or Glocks. Externally operated safeties can be found on the Beretta 92, 8000, CZ75, and Rugers.

The best advice is to try out multiple handguns (renting and shooting them is even better) and find the ones that fit you and are comfortable to operate. You should be able to reach all of the controls (trigger, safety, decocker, slide stop lock) without a problem.

Sig P228

out of the box accuracy rivals that of it's kinfolk, the Sig
P226; but offers better balance in a compact design.
The 239 is a little large for "pocket" concealment; so
therefore if I'm resticted to a holster, then the P228
is for me. Mine has proven to be more accurate than
most Glock 19's, as well.

No question about it. You want the SIG P210 series. But bring your check book. for a new one, they start around $2,000 and go up to $4,000.

Someday, I WILL own one.

Any 9mm from any of the major manufactureers will serve you well. But if cost is a factor in your decision, I would suggest either the Ruger P95 or CZ75. They're very easy on the wallet and are, in my opinion, worthy competitors to the higher-priced psitols.

Lots of great suggestions, but try to shoot a few before you buy. The BHP, HK P7M8 and the CZ-75B are my top choices.

The pistol you choose depends heavily on the purpose-----
self/home defense, concealed carry, etc. I have a Beretta and
a Sig and are extremely pleased with both of them. I liked the Beretta so much that I also bought the .40 cal, model 96.
(My 9mm Beretta is the model 92FS). The 9mm Sig (for concealed carry) is the model P239. Both brands are quality merchandise.

Stick with any of the West German stuff i.e., Glock, H&K, Steyr, Walther, Sig. Pick the operating system you are most comfortable with. For example, I like the safety system of the Steyr and the short trigger stroke. The Walther P99 is the fastest on shot to shot bar none, but it rubs my trigger finger really raw on the mag release. Next, pick what is most comfortable to YOU. Each has different grip angles, trigger reach, sights etc. Try to narrow it down a little bit, then go and rent the ones you are really interested in and enjoy. The firingline is a great place to learn, just search for those you are interested in and that will keep you way busy. Finally, from a financial standpoint the prices for the higher end guns may seem a little steep, but they tend to hold their value well and they are easily traded/sold when you decide to experiment with others.

9mm...

Since you said no GLocks I won't metion my Glock 26 :) .
I'm partial to smaller guns. My Kahr MK9, which is roughly the same size as the G26, holds fewer rounds, and has been very reliable. Not to mention, fun to shoot.

no, no, no

the 9x25 is the best 9mm! - not the 9x23, .38 super, 9x18, 9x17/.380, 9x19, 9x21, .38spl, .357 mag, or .357 sig. :) It's a 10mm auto case necked to 9mm - it screams.

Most would say the BEST gun in 9x19 is the Sig P210 (or HK P7s).

For single actions, the BHPs and BHP clones are nice - they fit my hands and point superbly, esp. with a hogue grip!

Best VALUE for a full size (not-so-concealable) has to go to the CZ, according to most around here - I have no reason to argue either.

Many other nice ones too though. Sigs, HKs, Glocks, 1911s, Kahrs, Kel-Tecs, Beretta, Walther. Personally, I want a G34, cuz I already have mags for it, and it should be an accurate gun and a powder puff shooter for not too much $.

As always, only buy a S&W or Ruger if you wish to contribute to the demise of our gun rights.

Dear Dragon:

You could have saved a lot of people a lot of trouble, and reduced the number of replies, if you had asked "What is the SECOND best 9mm pistol?"

That way, nobody would have bothered to recommend Glocks.:D
