ATF Project Gunrunner

Seems like it, could the article point to how deep the rabbit hole goes?

A hearing in the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee is laying the groundwork to compel U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and the head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to turn over documents related to "Operation Fast and Furious," a secret Obama administration program that put thousands of guns into the hands of Mexican drug cartels.

Why am I getting the distinct feeling that Rep. Elijah Cummings primary purpose on the Oversight committee is to obstruct the actual oversight of Justice and help DoJ/ATF hide their tracks? Couldn't he have least been bothered to learn the name of Brian Terry? It isn't bad enough that he was running around the border with a beanbag loaded shotgun while ATF armed the people he had a duty to stop; but now they can't even get his name right in the Congressional hearings surrounding his death?

BR, your distinct feeling is an excellent grasp of the obvious, IMO. IIRC, Cummings has never met a gun control law he didn't love, and anything Democrat must be defended against any slur or implication by whatever means he can conjur, regardless of its stupidity or factual basis. Surprised he isn't holding a fundraiser for little Tony Weiner to help him pay the overdue registration fees on his truck.

Brian Terry was a classic enemy of Cummings' "people". A LEO trying to do his job the right way and getting in the path of a Democrat constituency. How dare he?

Does anyone know how to find a transcript of the hearing?
No. The gist of the first day is this:

Elijah Cummings told Issa that he should be happy with the documents the DoJ has already released. Issa complained that the documents provided were already in the public domain, and that they were too heavily redacted to be of any use.

Morton Rosenberg told Congress that, "the Department of Justice has the power to string out your investigation, refuse to obey it, and then when it's time for contempt...say all you can do is bring a civil action which will extend and delay your constitutional ability to enforce it."

Nothing like a little CIA-style "import/export business" to keep the doors of a government agency open, eh?
Gonna be awkward when they have to start bombing their own offices because they are cartel supply depots.

To me, the bigger question right now is this:

How do we get the media to pay attention to this?

A couple of threads got killed as drive-by earlier today, but they linked to today's CNN article, which repeated the garbage about 70% of guns used by cartels coming from the US.

Did CNN mention the gunrunner Congressional hearings? Nowhere that I could find.

We all know this is going on. Fox, CBS, and the Huffington Post have provided occasional coverage. But how do we get in-depth coverage of what should be both a major adminstration scandal and a major public concern? Instead, CNN spews the party/DOJ/BATF-E line, and most other media are focused on "Weiner-Gate."

It makes me want to use the kinds of words that get censored here...

Conspiracy to justify 2nd Ammendment regulations?

Did anyone else see this? That the administration may allowed Operation: Fast and Furious to proceed and fail so they could blame American gun stores and justify gun regulations? I am getting this sinking feeling, and I don't do conspiracy theories. If the report the investigation produces affirms this, what is the recourse of the American people? Is that what Obama meant by "under the radar"?

Whether or not it was the initial or primary intent, I am pretty sure they saw it as at least a bonus.

Now that they got caught with their grubby mitts in the proverbial cookie jar... It isn't going to be so easy to wool over this fellers eyes.

Whether or not those were the intentions they had to know about the operation. They may try to use this for more gun control but like some of those people surrounding Obama said never let a crisis go to waste.

I knew about the botched operation. But I had no idea the Congressional Oversight Committee had found anything to warrant this kind of accusation. I'm anxiously awaiting their report. I'm hoping this wasn't a deliberate plot to go after gun rights.
