As a handgunner, do you own/shoot AR's & Shotguns?

Yes I own and shoot AR's and shotguns. I have a Bushmaster Shorty A3 with an aimpoint sight and a trigger job. Came with a rough military trigger. It is a real tack driver. Has never failed me. I don't think I would use it for home defense unless I had some good muffs handy. The muzzle blast and fireball in a close room would definately damage you hearing. Do't shoot it as often as I'd like because ammo has gotten expensive. As far as the gun goes with earmuffs it would be a superb home defense gun.
My shotgun is a Mossberg 590-A1 and it is great. Goes bang everytime. You can shoot anything from birdshoot to lugs in it. It is still alot of bang for the buck. I put a rail on the top of it and am using a Red Dot sight. Also got a Spec Op Stock from Knoxx. I don't know about thier claimed 90% reduction in recoil but it shocked me how well it did work. Plus you can set it for several different lengths. Or go to the shortest setting on the stock for storage. I shoot it quite a bit. It has a fiber optics sight up front to back up the Red Dot. Within reasonable range it will do damage like no other handheld weapon made.
I always have one of my handguns around. My Mossy is behind my bedstand. If something goes bumo in the night if I've got time that is what I will grab. I don't have any kids at home anymore so I don't have to worry where the shot is going. I have a flashlight, cell phone, a pistol and my Mossy by me at night. I'm sure not going to try to clear my place. Get my light, gun, cell phone to call the police and get under cover. If they come to my bedroom they are dead. Look at how many men in a SWAT team go in to clear a house. I'm not going to let the other guy dictate the nature of the fight.

1. Do you own an AR and if yes, what type? How often do you shoot it?
Bushmaster Patrolmans carbine Every chance I get

2. Do you own a shotgun? What gauge? How often do you shoot it?
yes 12 Gauge once every few months

3. What is your tactical home defense plan with the AR and Shotgun?

AR loaded with Hornady TAP-FPD(non barrier penetrating) located in one room
Mossberg 500 loaded with buckshot located in hall closet...the idea is to be able to transition from to other with minimal difficulty, if the situation were arise..

I have had many handguns in my lifetime, but have never owned an Ar. To be honest, I don't like them. I hope it isn't a requirement to own handguns. I have shot shotguns and rifles, mostly lever-actions for the better part of my life.

I am deadly with a Lever at just about any distance within reason. I have found that after many years of shooting them, it has become automatic. I don't even realize that I am siting one, it is just automatic. I like other rifles and like to play with them from time to time, but hand me a lever when there is work to do.

I do have a .410 Win 9410 and love it, but have not shot it a lot yet. It is still tight from being new. My son-in-law traded me a Win pump M12 in 20 ga for my old Stevens 311 double. That old 311 was in 12 ga and would kick my butt whenever I shot it.

I'm primarily a skeet shooter, so most of my gun $$$ is in comp grade shotguns; but, I also have an AR (HBAR Match) and a collection of pistols and revolvers, mostly target models.

Rock River Arms National Match CMP-legal. This is going to be my primary highpower rifle in competition this season. I intend to try and compete at least once a month, if not more. This is the only AR I own, and the only one I can foresee ever wanting.

2. Do you own a shotgun? What gauge? How often do you shoot it?

Ruger Red Label over and under 12 gauge with "English" straight grip stock. I bought this for skeet shooting, which I maybe do once a month. I have owned "riot" type shotguns in the past, but I have never hung on to them for very long. I'm not much of a shotgun guy.

3. What is your tactical home defense plan with the AR and Shotgun?

Don't have one. I keep a Model 60 .38 Special on a shelf in the kitchen and a Sig P220 with 185 grain Hydra-shoks upstairs in my bedroom. I can hear breaking glass and my home alarm system will sound if a door is forced. My dog has recently developed the annoying habit of barking at everything. A rottweiler, still a puppy, but the protective instinct is starting to assert itself.

Don't have an AR. Had a couple in the past, and consider them fun toys, but not practical for anything I do, and not legal to hunt anything but varmints/small game. Since ammo prices went up, I didnt shoot the last one I had and sold it. I don't miss it in the least. In my skewed world, with the same money I had in the AR, I could have a very nice bolt sporter in a more useful caliber. And a Leupold scope. I just plain like good bolt guns more.

Never been much of a shotgun guy. Shoot some sporting clays and skeet for fun now and then when visiting folks that do that, but the few shotguns I have go years between any use.

Home defense ideas revolve around having a good rifle handy, and a serious caliber sixgun. I live closer to large furry varmints than to gang bangers or other 2 legged miscreants. What works for bears etc should work alright for whatever else shows up.

At this present I have only 1 AR (a del-ton kit that i built), But im more comfortable shooting my AKs. As far as shotguns go i currently have 3 My mossberg 590A1, Mossberg 590, and a mossberg JIC package. All of which get shot regularly. I love shooting 12 gauges!

Yup, I have an AR I built from parts, several shotguns in 12 & 20 ga, handguns from .25 to 44mag. A .50 cal muzzleloader and more firearms in the works. My HD plan, grab the nearest weapon and use it until the threat no longer exists.

1 yes. not too often
2 winchester 1300 12 gauge, i never really shoot that one either. its just for home defense
3 I would use the shotty for home defense, or my 45. But not the rifle

shoot a USGI .30 Carbine and an autoloading shotgun, along with my revolver, in a 3 gun club match. Everyone else seems to have a pistol and an AR type carbine to go with their pump shjotgun.

I do not own a AR

I own a lot more rifles and shotguns than handguns, I am a big hunter.

My go to hd weapon is a shotgun. It is actually a old beatup remington model 11. It goes bang every time. I do have a handgun that is in easier reach but if I have time I will always go for the shotgun. It is just superior firepower compared to a handgun

Lots of shotguns.

I was around when we switched to the M16 and that spoiled AR types for me. I have a M1 Garand and a 30 cal M1 carbine in my bedroom so no need for the varmint gun.

AR yes, plus an AK, L1A1FAL, and Dragonov. Usually take the AR along to the range every trip and run at least a couple mags through it. Just cause it's Soooo much fun!
Shotgun yes, Remington 1100 Magnum. Bought it for turkey and duck, but don't do much of either anymore. Still put the 2 3/4 chamber mod choke barrel on occasionally to bust a few busshytails.
With sholder and elbow surgery about 12 years ago, can't really swing on birds or clays very well.

Yes. Colt 6721 (Tactical Carbine) Not as often as I would like, but have put hundreds of rounds through it.

Sort of. CBC single shot 12. Never been fired in the 25 or 30 years I've had it.

I intend to roll my AR into my HD plan when I move, as the new house offers much longer ranges of possible fire, whereas now, the AR is simply too unwieldy, as is a shotgun, and my EDC offers the best combination of handiness, firepower, and my abilities. I will be purchasing a decent real shotgun, and becoming proficient with that as well, even if it takes me years.;)

No

Yes, 20 gauge. Very seldom fired. (It's a "legacy" gun from my grandfather's estate, and old farmer's side by side.)

Nonexistant. I do not think the risk level in this neighborhood necessitates a "tactical home defense w/ AR & shotgun" plan. "If the zombie horde comes", I'll use the AK.

1) Yes, Ar-15 DPMS. Just purchased. I should have it in hand on 3/24/10.
I plan to shoot it at least monthly in good weather 1x every mo. in winter. (indoor range only allows AR's on Saturday evenings

2) Yes, 12 Ga, Mossy 500, Rarely. I have used one for years. This particluar 500 is for HD only, and it's always at the ready

3) HD is pistol to get me to the Mossy then it's a tactical decision. I intend to never use any of my firearms in an HD situation. If the situation calls for a different response everybody in my househjold has a plan of action and it's rehearsed. Just like the family fire drill.
The AR is just for fun times at the range! I will not use it for HD, unless the world starts to come to an end.

1.) Yes. Rock River upper over Stag lower.
Love to shoot it. All the fun of a .22 semi, but noticeably less economical.
2.) Yes. SxS 12 gauge for me, 20 gauge pump for my wife.
3.) No definate plan, but a prioritized order of implementation.
