As a handgunner, do you own/shoot AR's & Shotguns?

"If you miss with the shotgun, go to the handgun.....

if you miss with the handgun and they are still running....

go to the rifle".

Who told you that?

I have around 10 handguns, not including some junk-guns I own and some things that aren't really handguns. I have a couple of hunting rifles, an O/U for sporting clays and skeet. An AK, FAL, AC556 and some "assault" pistols and a handful of other guns and rifles.

I fall into that catagory of "I like all firearms....unless they break"

To answer your questions:

1. Do you own an AR and if yes, what type? How often do you shoot it?

Colt SP1 Carbine (with the metal buttstock). I've owned it for about 15 years - I think I shot it twice.

2. Do you own a shotgun? What gauge? How often do you shoot it?

Beretta O/U 12 gauge - whenever I get a chance to go skeet shooting or shoot sporting clays....i.e. not often enough. USAS-12 - I've fired it a handful of times.

3. What is your tactical home defense plan with the AR and Shotgun?
Leave the shotguns and the AR15 in the safe and keep my Glock 17 handy for home defense.

Probably call myself a Polymath....or a Renaissance man.

Handguns, rifles, trap-skeet-sporting clays, competitive shooting sports, hunting with all of the above, and archery.

Is there even one documented case of this actually occurring? Regardless, it always makes me smile!

Not exactly a next room scenario, but...
Boarded a vessel while doing drug ops in 1996. Entered a berthing with 4 "bad guys" (vessel was confirmed to have lots of cocaine and cash on board). Immediately gave the command to get on the deck and put hands on heads. Nobody moved and started to chatter in Spanish. My buddy says "they don't speak English" to which I respond "I don't speak Spanish". Next action was to rack the slide on my Mossberg 590, making sure they knew I was loaded and meant business. Their reaction...everyone hit the deck and put their hands on their heads. Just goes to prove, EVERYONE speaks 12ga. ;)

Yup

1. Do you own an AR and if yes, what type? How often do you shoot it?

Smith and Wesson MP-15 along with an AK. I take one of them whenever i go to the range and shoot a magazine for function testing. Mostly shoot the MP-15-22 when drilling with a rifle. I can get 1000 rds of 22LRs for about $80 vs $300-400 for centerfire.

2. Do you own a shotgun? What gauge? How often do you shoot it?

Mossberg 12 gauge pump. Took it to range once to make sure it works with no problems.

3. What is your tactical home defense plan with the AR and Shotgun?

No HD plan for AR unless there's a Haiti or Katrini event. If that does ever happen i hope just showing it will be enough to keep the bad buys at bay. If not i sure hope my neighbors are just as well armed. For everyday HD I rely on M&P 40 and the shotgun.

I own an AR but no shotguns.

My AR15 is a Stag Arms and I don't get to shoot it nearly enough. Right now it's the dead of winter in Wisconsin so I don't feel like sitting out in the freezing weather to shoot.

My home defense plan consists of my Glock, nothing to do with a rifle.

i own 9 1911s(Colt Kimber Springfield RIA), 6 12ga shotguns (4 Remington 870s) , 6 ARs in various calibers and manufactures (5.56, 7.62x39, 50 Beowulf, .22lr) along with many other pistols and rifles

...so yeah

and as far as how often i shoot off duty- not often enough- but when i do i train with everything

my "tactical" home defense plan - includes the 1911 under my pillow and a run to the safe where there are 2 870s loaded and three loaded mags for my AR(5.56)... but honestly if i cant hold my own with my security system, dog, lights, neighbors, bad attitude, cell phone, and my 1911 then im screwed anyway

My gun collection consists of 13 handguns (9 revolvers, 4 autos), 10 rifles (5 centerfire, 2 muzzleloading, 3 rimfire), and 10 shotguns (8 12 gauges, 1 20 gauge, 1 .410).

1. Do you own an AR and if yes, what type? How often do you shoot it?

Yes. It's a parts gun I built from a Tactical Innovations stripped lower, Armalite LPK and a RRA factory built 16" HBAR upper. I've added Magpul MOE stock and grip and have a MI quadrail on the front, I have no idea why as there's nothing presently on it. I've put MAYBE 400 rounds through it in the year + I've owned it. In other words, not much.

2. Do you own a shotgun? What gauge? How often do you shoot it?

Yes, 10 of them (see above), A lot.

3. What is your tactical home defense plan with the AR and Shotgun?

I don't really have a "tactical" home defense plan. I keep a Ruger P345 loaded with Hornady TAP 230 gr. JHP's, with mounted light (Streamlight TLR-1) and separate light (Surefire P6 LED) on a shelf above where I sleep. I keep a 20" barreled, rifle sighted 870 loaded with 7 rounds of Federal LE12700 outside the gunsafe at night. My plan is to take position in my bedroom doorway keeping anyone away from me and mine while my wife calls 911. Whether that's accomplished with the .45 or the 12 ga will depend on how much warning I have that things are amiss. That's where the locks and alarms come in..........

My AR doesn't factor into my HD plan.

I like handguns, mostly 1911s, but I'm also a shotgunner -- no ARs, however.

I shoot sporting clays and competitive trap -- have a couple of Perazzis in 12 gauge.

Here's one.

Hunt pheasant too and have a couple of SxSs in 12 and 20 gauge. Here's my favorite 12 gauge Bernardelli.

I don't own an AR. Love to have one but probably won't for a long time. At least until I find that elusive money tree to shake!

I do own a tactical Mossberg 500 which is the centerpiece of my HD plan. I love to shoot it as much as I can. Plastic milk jugs filled with water and watermellons are most fun. Flying critters would be fun too, but I don't hunt.

I enjoy my handguns, use them for personal defense as well as hunting. I own an AR too ( I built it up as a precision rifle). I also have other rifles inclusing Browning, Mauser, Ruger, Anschutz, Enfield, etc. I have shotguns from Browning, Remington, Ithica, Winchester and others. I shoot most of them at one time or another and love them all.

no AR. just never cared for the platform... forgive me Mr colt...:o... but i do keep one of my Ak's loaded with a 75 round drum in the safe. and i sleep with two .45's and a mossberg 500 within hand reach. and a siaga 12 in the hall closet at the other end of the house.

no AR. just never cared for the platform... forgive me Mr colt

Colt didn't design it, just got rights to build a ton of them. Stoner designed and built them. AR10 (.308 platform) first, but Army complained about weight, so Stoner came up with the AR15 (.223 platform).

In addition to my 6 handguns, I've got 2 shotguns. A Browning A-5 "Humpback" and a Mossberg pump, which are both used for hunting and not home defense. I leave that up to my Rossi 462, which is also my daily carry.

Sold my AR years ago to my son. Shoot more shotgun than anything else - lots of targets and birds. 12, 20 and 28's all for fun, multiple versions of each gauge.

Defense is handled by a handgun,

Yes. I have a Stag M-2 AR. I also shoot a Beretta 12g semi and a cheap Russian 20g OU.

When I go to the club, I load a hodge-podge of guns. Rifles: hunting, Mausers, M1 Carbine, AR, 22... Shotguns: 12g and handguns. I never know what will be wide open and shoot trap, 5-stand, steel plates and paper. It is an all day affair.

I shoot my AR about once a quarter. I shoot my hunting rifles the most as in frequency but only 10 or so rounds at a time. I shoot clays about the same and spend several days in the dove field and a week in Canada with geese, upland and ducks.

Home protection: nothing structured. 20g OU with 3" buck, a 357 revolver 158g LSWCHP +P and a 1911 45acp. I would pick up my M1 Carbine with 110g SPs before my AR for in-home use. I love that little gun. AR would be more for farm/property protection. Carry-it when ridding property - poachers, trepassers...

I have thought about shooting action pistol and three gun at the club, but I don't have a tactical or pump shotgun.

Do I (as a handgunner) own and shoot ARs/shotguns? Why wouldn't I ?
The only reason I can think of would be personal preference.

As it turns out, no, I don't own/shoot an AR. Used to, but sold mine back in the late 80s, when my $450 AR brought $900! Haven't gotten another one. Don't see any need, or point. I have a Mini 14 that should work just as well as an anti mutantninjabikerzombie weapon. And I don't use the .223 for varmints, I have other guns for that.

Shotguns? a half dozen or so, all 12ga, except for one bolt action .410. Don't shoot them much any more, but considering I used shotguns extensively for recreational purposes for close to 30 years, I figure I haven't, and won't forget how to use one.

All most people need is to hear that distinctive pump sound come from the other room.

Is there even one documented case of this actually occurring?

Does personal experience count as documented, or is it merely anecdotal? Because I have had it happen to me. And I was the one hearing it! Complicated situation, involving a jealous girlfriend, long, long ago. But I can tell you that the sound alone was enough to make me seriously rethink my priorities and planned course of actions!

Tactical defense plan involving AR/shotgun? Not hardly. First off, if I had one, why would I publish it on the Internet? Second, AR, (and all rifles) are very poor weapons for home defense, as defending your house and self is more about repelling boarders than anything at extended range. So a rifle is a poor choice. Better that no gun, but not first choice by a long shot (pun intended). I do keep a coach gun with some buckshot in the buttcuff, as backup, but my primary home defense tools are which ever of several handguns I reach first.

I use to shoot registered trap so I started out with a stogoer conder and I added Remington extra full chokes on it. My son was hitting birds at 55 yards
no sweat. I have a remington 3200 o/u.My self defense shotguns I have 2 12
gauge pump shotguns and 1 20 gauge pump,my boy has an 410 new england
break down.I like shotguns as they are so versatile and you can put them in a novice hands and they can hit the target as they have a thirty inch box.

I have a bushmaster AR it's ok $1000 rifle.Give me a M-1 grand an I am a
happy man.My boy has one I bought him when he graduated from the 8th grade.I think that 's when Band of Brothers was going through it's first showing.Within a day he taught himself how to field strip it and clean it.
I was impressed and told him! I guess the argument for the change is cost
and skill. The army contend in the 30's and 40's farmboys all shot 22's and larger calibers to help put food on the table.Look at the kids in the late 60's most of them haven't touched a rife let alone shoot one !

yes, I do

Gulf Coast major hurricane breakdown of civil order =

1. Short barrel 12ga pump
2. Short barrel AR15
