As a handgunner, do you own/shoot AR's & Shotguns?

I love handguns and own more than 40. I'm very partial to the 1911 and have dedicated my collection in that direction. However, I do have an AR-15 and a Shotgun. I got to wondering if most handgunners also have an AR and/or a shotgun? I am not a hunter so my guns are used for defense and I stay sharp at the range.

1. Do you own an AR and if yes, what type? How often do you shoot it?

2. Do you own a shotgun? What gauge? How often do you shoot it?

3. What is your tactical home defense plan with the AR and Shotgun?

Yes.

AR is a parts gun that I built up. I shoot it a fair amount.

I own 8 shotguns - 6 12 gauges, a 20 gauge, and a .410. I don't shoot them nearly as often as I would like.

My home defense plan does not include my AR.

It does include one of my many handguns (revolver or semiauto, depending on what I've taken to the range recently) and my Smith & Wesson 3000 Police Cruiser.

1. Do you own an AR and if yes, what type? How often do you shoot it?

Yep. 20" with a detachable carry handle, and it hasn't been shot at all yet because I just finished assembling it and haven't had a chance to bring it to the range.

2. Do you own a shotgun? What gauge? How often do you shoot it?

I have a 12 gauge coach gun sitting around. It gets shot rarely.

3. What is your tactical home defense plan with the AR and Shotgun?

There is none. I have other guns better suited for home defense.

Yup.
1-I've got a RRA A4 Varmiter that I usually bring to the range every time.
2- No shotgun for 2 reasons. One I shot skeet alot as a kid and loved it...but never had to pay for it. ;) Now I would and I know I'd spend a fortune. Second reason, it's hard in Northern Viginia to find an outdoor range to shoot skeet or trap...which would be the main reason I'd buy a shotgun.
3- They don't. I normally use whatever I'm carrying at the time and everything else is locked up.

I don't own an AR, but I own rifles. Mosins/Marlin 336's, SKS, a dozen 22's and so on, and a couple of shotguns.

No "plan." I figure I'll pick up whichever handgun I was carrying and left on the nightstand when I went to bed.

YES...

Used to have several AR's, sold all but one during the "frenzy" and tripled my $$...kept the Stag arms lower with DPMS 7" upper.

Have just 2 shotguns now, 3 counting the Ithaca 37 in my brothers safe. A Colt 12 ga. pump, and a Siaga .410...also have a H&R handigun in .410, but that's a pistol.

Unless riots break out in the streets, I doubt I would break out the ar...live in an apt. Also have a PO carbon 15 pistol I bought when they 1st hit the market, fun to shoot, but if needed for SD, I would reach for the 7" kitty kat SBR W/ 100 rd. Beta C mag....if that can't save my bacon...it prolly can't be saved . LOL

My normal HD is usually covered with one of my 1911s.

1. Do you own an AR and if yes, what type? How often do you shoot it?
Nope, because I prefer an AK-47. I knock off 5 30rd mags per week.

2. Do you own a shotgun? What gauge? How often do you shoot it?
I own several; 2 500As in 12ga, 1 870 super mag 12ga, 1 20ga citori ou, 1 stoeger SxS in 16ga, 1 charles daily youth model auto loader 20ga. I Hunt birds and shoot trap FREQUENTLY!

3. What is your tactical home defense plan with the AR and Shotgun?
The AKs aren't for "home" defense. They are more of a "property" defender (I also love them for coyote). The best home defense plan for a shotgun is a pump. All most people need is to hear that distinctive pump sound come from the other room. Chances are they will leave right then and there.

1. Do you own an AR and if yes, what type? How often do you shoot it?

Nope....i am partial to .308 and 30-06 over .223

2. Do you own a shotgun? What gauge? How often do you shoot it?

Yup, Mossberg 500 Tactical 12ga, not as much as i should...the m4 stock is rough

3. What is your tactical home defense plan with the AR and Shotgun?

i dont think a rifle is any part of a home defense plan unless fire is being taken from outside the house, last stand sorta deal. depending on the situation a 1911 is always on hand or near. bump in the night is the shotgun's job.

I have an AR and a shotgun, and about the only time I shoot either is when a pistol match I'm attending has a "side stage" for long guns. I've dabbled in 3-gun competition over the years, including shooting USPSA Multi-Gun Nationals a few yers ago, but the combination of ammo prices and ammo unavailability has put it on the back burner.
The AR is a Colt HBAR, stock other than the MIAD grip. Shotgun is a Mossberg 590, stock other than a sling and butt-cuff ammo carrier. I live in a suburban area, with lots of nearby neighbors, so don't usually think of long guns for defense. I have given a bit of thought to "breakdown of civilization" scenarios, and the ability to reach out has played a part in that. There was a bear wandering around our neighborhood a few months ago, appearing at one point on the athletic field at our daughters' school, and I was giving some thought to stoking the shotgun with slugs and putting it outside the safe, but the bear kept moving, and nothing came of that "plan".

No AR, been there done that didn't even take the tee shirt. There are better self loading rifles for individual self defense.

Love shotguns, two Mossberg 590s, a Mossberg 500, and an Ithaca M37. Soon getting a Mossberg 930SPX.

Home defense plan is a Beretta PX-4 with 20+1 147gr. 9mms on tap to get to one of the shotguns, which are the queens of CQB imo.

Yes; 16" carbine from Combat Solutions (MMS lower, LMT upper). I almost never shoot it, though; I'm a handgun-guy, and my local range (indoor, NRA HQ Range) only goes out to 50 yards. Easy enough to hit what I'm aiming for with a handgun at that distance.

Yes; Remington 870 Express, 12ga, 28" vent-rib barrel. I use it for shooting wobble trap at Bull Run Shooting Center, and nothing else. I've probably shot it about 10 or 12 times since buying it last year...so not all that often. Compared to my annual membership at the NRA HQ Range and shooting my reloads and .22s (at targets I print out myself), shooting clays ($11 for two games of 25 shells each, $5 to tip the trapper, $10 for shells) is expensive.

To leave them in their cases and use my always-on-me .38 snubnose for defense.

Not anymore.

I sold my Mossberg 590 when I realized I was never going to enter "three weapon" matches, and I just sold my Shilen barreled AR-15 varmint rifle when I decided to no longer take part in that sport.

This does not worry me, my focus in firearms has evolved many times over the years. My first serious firearm was a Colt Trooper. As a new reloader it was easy to find components and assemble loads. I worked my way up the revolver calibers until I discovered the fun of automatic pistols.

My interest in long guns followed the same path. When I chose not to hunt larger game, I sold my stainless 1895 Guide Gun to a friend going west to shoot coastal bears. The varmint guns disappeared one by one. I almost gave the Mossberg away.

My stainless Ruger 10-22 was a gift from my wife, and in the final analysis, the most used and loved.

I thoroughly enjoy all aspects of shooting, having quite a few handguns and long arms. I go through spurts as to what I am interested in, from classic military, modern military, old west, sporting grade, etc. Each time I seem to pick up a new toy or two, giving me an eclectic combination of all sorts of fun! My primary focus, however, has always been handguns. They're what I shoot most, and what I am most comfortable with in most cases.

1. Do you own an AR and if yes, what type? How often do you shoot it?

Yes. I have a Century Arms L1A1 (FAL Clone). I used to shoot it all the time. Now I doubt if it hits the range even once a year.

Also have a Thompson, though it hasn't seen the outside of my safe in atleast 3 years.

2. Do you own a shotgun? What gauge? How often do you shoot it?

I currently have 5 shotguns, all 12 gauges. 1 Norinco replica 1897 Winchester trench shotgun, 1 Charles Daily synthetic auto-loading shotgun (my woods gun), a Saiga 12K detachable magazine auto-shotgun, and a Baretta Gold Mallard auto-shotgun, and a Franchii custom skeet O/U. I bird hunt with the CD 2-6 times a year, shooting little other than that. I take my skeet gun out for clays a few times a year, whenever I can.

3. What is your tactical home defense plan with the AR and Shotgun?

Actually, my HD plan doesn't involve any long guns. I keep my carry-grade pistols in my bedroom, while all of my other guns are locked in the safes. I am practiced enough with my carry guns to defend myself in most cases, so being in my home is no different.
Now, if we're talking extreme situations, then it involves getting the L1A1 and several magazines, the Norinco and fortifying.

1. Do you own an AR and if yes, what type? How often do you shoot it?

No, but I'd like to get one, preferrably in 7.62x39. I do have an SKS and a .22 rifle.

2. Do you own a shotgun? What gauge? How often do you shoot it?

Rem 870 12ga. I shoot skeet/trap/clays a few times a year when it's warm. I'd do it more if I had the time & money. I'd like to a have more home defense oriented 12ga.

3. What is your tactical home defense plan with the AR and Shotgun?

My home defense plan only involves handguns. The SKS and 870 are too long for me to use effectively indoors and stay locked up anyway. Not to mention difficultly using a flashlight. I only have quick access to two of my pistols. We live in a suburb where police/fire/EMS is 5 minutes away. (Yes, I know 5 minutes can be a very long time.)

The plan is fairly simple, but depends on situation. It generally involves my wife calling 911, going to our closet and getting my 2nd loaded pistol out of the safe. I get my pistol and flashlight from the night-stand, go get our son, and come to the closet where we wait for the cavalry. Our bedroom has an exterior door, so if possible and prudent, we'd exit the house.

To answer #1--- Yes, I own several AR type rifles.Mainly Colt and DPMS. I shoot them a lot.
#2---Yes, I own many shotguns of various brands, and gauges from .410 to 10 gauge. I've no practical use for shotguns, so I never fire them.
#3---My "tactical home defense" is very simple. Anything that breaks in gets shot to pieces. Whatever I would use just depends on what I pick up first.

1. Do you own an AR and if yes, what type? How often do you shoot it?
Yes Olympic PCR02. Also AK, L1A1 FAL, several SKS's. Probably shoot one or all almost as much as handguns.

2. Do you own a shotgun? What gauge? How often do you shoot it?
Remington 1100 Magnum, also have 2 3/4 chambered barrel. Not used much, only a few hunting trips.hunted ducks or turkeys in quite a few years, just started squirrel hunting again.

3. What is your tactical home defense plan with the AR and Shotgun?
Non, XD40 sub or 1991A1 compact will do fine.

No AR, but I do have some Browning shotguns. I love my O/U, but my Browning BPS is my workhorse. I like the design so much I just purchased an extended mag (5), 20" BPS for HD.
Not many options for a 'tacticool' shotgun for a Browning, but it has everything I need in a HD shotgun. The only change I am going make is to change the front bead to a hi-viz.

1. Do you own an AR and if yes, what type? How often do you shoot it?

No, I don't own an AR, but I do own an AK variant (Saiga 223 with 922r compliant PG conversion). I shoot it as often as any other gun in my collection. I also own several other rifles including bolt-actions, one other semi-auto, and a lever action.

2. Do you own a shotgun? What gauge? How often do you shoot it?

Yes, I own three. I have a Remington 870 Express 12ga, a NEF Pardner 10ga single-shot, and a Sears & Roebuck 20ga (store-brand High Standard Flite King) that was my grandfather's.

3. What is your tactical home defense plan with the AR and Shotgun?

Both my Saiga and the Remington are loaded and no more than a few steps from my bed at night while a revolver is within immediate reach. Also the NEF is in the closet with five shells in an elastic butt cuff. The Sears gun stays in the safe. I am a believer in having the right tool available for whatever situation may present itself.

This ^ and...

I have one AR-15 (Bushmaster ORC M4gery) that I reload for and shoot fairly often. It is a true EBR (Evil Black Rifle) with all the "tacticool" accessories that cost almost as much as the rifle itself :D

Also have an AK-47 that is a workhorse. Nothing special about it, but it's a blast to shoot. I've kept it pretty stock as far as the furniture goes... I really like the traditional wood on it.

I have one shotgun, a Mossberg 500 with a small variety of different barrels and stocks for HD or skeet shooting configs. I get it out on occasion just to keep it "frosty" and the shells are cheap and plentiful.

No REAL specific plan... just keep the shotty with an 18.5" barrel and PG loaded with slugs close by (i.e. out of the safe). It would probably be my first go to NON handgun for HD. If things really got out of hand, I could get to my AR, AK, M1 Carbine, etc. pretty quick :)
