I will go with the one that share the same caliber with your "primary weapon".
You will be benefit from doing so - lower ammo cost & greater commonality between your primary & back up piece.

I'd go with a Glock 26 if you have a 9mm, it is hard for me to shoot since the grip is way small for my hand, but it is a reliable hole-maker!
S&W will be my choice if my carrying piece is chambered in 40/45/38/357/10mm...etc.

Go with the G26 whenever possible.

The harder to shoot, less powerful, less capacity, and slower to reload snub nose .38 if that's the absolute limit you can carry.

Definition of Optimism: A guy with a snub nose and a speed strip.

.38 for sure as back up. If you use it it means your primary gun has failed. And I know it has already been said but the revolver does not need any room for the slide to rack

gbran, what is the first gun in your picture. I am again undecided on this topic since again I am visited by the same options.

Depends on what you carry.

I would choose the g-26 to back up my g-26. They both go with my g-17. I like to have the same gun twice, so I don't have to worry about a different frame, trigger, ect. The regular cap (g-17) magazines work in the g-26 as well.

Another issue is if you have to use the thing, and the police keep your gun for the next few months, and you get to keep your other guns, you already have the same thing you always carry, your g-26. No discomfort, and no learning curve, just the gun you are already used to.

I am supprised to see the revolver winning. 5 shots vs. 10 shots. No contest in my book, but then, the g-26 did replace a .357 snub in my life.

As a backup gun ,I prefer the 38 Spl .....
