As a backup: Glock 26 or SW .38spl 2''?

G26 or SW 38spl 2''?

I have both but since I dont carry a b/u either one of those is my MAIN carry. I prefer the 26 due to the capacity and the 9mm round but the snubby conceals better. I guess I would say that if your main carry is a larger semi auto or revolver the snubby makes more sense for better concealment.

Where is IRP?
What sort of threats do you face, and, what sort of numbers?

If you can conceal it, the 26 has better ballistics, almost .357 like ballistics with 125 grain Double Tap ammo.
5 vs. 10?
Depending on how you are going to conceal it, either one has advantages, and disdavantages for CCW potential.

You need to compare them.

The Glock is 25 oz loaded, a lightweight 38 can be under 15 oz. That's a huge difference in weight...

it revolves between hk p2000, g19, g21 or kc357

it looks like you need both :D

but since you have a G19 I would definatly get the G26 it's every bit as reliable as a revolver except for shooting inside the pocket

I would have no problem using the G26 as my main carry with a Kel-tec as a bug

I'd carry the 26 as a primary (in fact I do) with a .38 as a back up (I carry one as a primary though too)

Firepower! I enjoy your threads for some reason...keep filling us in on your decision making process. You're living in quite a different world over there.

I could go either way on this one. I chose the Smith because that is one of my favorite platforms. Heck, I kind of consider both of these choices good "primary" carry guns...much less BUG's.

I always wondered why so much waste of a case in 38.

something to do with the transition from blackpowder to smokeless powder, the 9mm and .45ACP were made with smokeless powder in mind only (thus shorter cases) I believe the .38 was popular with reloaders back then but that's my unproven hypothesis

For a BUG, I'd definately prefer the revolver. It will have a reliability edge under less than ideal circumstances (fired through a pocket, shooting weak-handed or injured, etc.) and I've always found the more curved contours of a revolver to conceal more easily than a squarish auto. Also, .38 ammo can still be quite effective. Buffalo Bore and Double Tap both make .38 Spl +P ammunition that is quite powerful even out of a snub barrel. If you can't get that sort of ammo (I could see that being an issue in Pakistan), good old 158grn LSWCHP +P is a time-tested loading and available from most large ammo compainies.

We're talking about a backup gun here.

That means you have already either discharged your Glock(or whatever your primary is) to empty or have unfortunately lost control of it.

A hammerless snub Smith right in the guys face.

Without even thinking about it.

Voted for the S&W .38. Easily concealable, reasonably powerful, reliable, and it's safer as a "pocket gun" than the Glock, due to the trigger pull.

One more time. You have a Glock, so I'm assuming it's acceptable, you can shoot and enjoy it, and carry it.

You can interchange ammunition between the two guns, and, carry hicap mags that will work in the 26.

I've had two jframes, and, sold one. I don't shoot them well.
The design, and my shooting style don't seem to work together. The over 12-15 pound trigger pull on a SW does not lend itself to accurate shooting. Also, the ergometrics of large hands and the small frame don't seem to work well, either. My 360PD autolocked on me during dry firing, another consideration.

The short barrels in 38 cost you about 75-100 fps, in 38 Plus P. 150 in .357 mag.

Don't know how big your hands are.
Glocks for big hands, general rule.
Also, the guys at the range tend to shoot the 26's far better then the heavier calibers, and, very well, much better then snubs.

I tried both last week and I am confused again.

At 20 yards I shot much better in S/A with SW than G26.

Is 20 yards a reasonable expectation for backup gun?

20yds is far for a SD shooting, also keep in mind you wont be able to take a lot of time to shoot SA and take precision shots when someone is trying to kill you

Which backup?

I couldn't decide.

My BUG is a snubbie, but if I carried a G22 or 23, then the G27 might be my preferred BUG.

Or, similarly, the G26 if my primary was the G17 or 19.

The primary mag's working in the back ups is an important consideration for some. Didn't read all the posts, sorry if this has already been covered.

If your primary is a Glock in 9mm,like a G19, then the G26 because you can share mags.

If its a .38 revolver, the snubbie; you can share ammo.

If its neither, then its whatever you shoot the best because you're in deep poo if you're using your BUG
