I think the 1911's are as much a fad as federal income tax, which would you like to get rid of? what will probably be the first to go?

The only time you can possibly put "1911" and "fad" in the same sentence is when discussing 1911 variants. It seems the "fad" of expensive tricked-out custom pistols is subsiding, and more folks want an honest mil-spec version like what the Army had. At least, I can't think of any other reason why Colt can get away with selling so many plain-jane WW2 repros for $1,000 at the moment.

Other 1911 fads through history:

Pinning the grip safety
Bo-Mar sight ribs
S&W sights
DA conversions
Chop jobs
Collet bushings
Multi-caliber upper assemblies

And my favorite:

Filing the US Property stamp off a pilfered Army .45 and nickel plating it, so that nobody would notice where it really came from.

Yeah. 1911's, six-shot revolvers, dogs, children, honesty, the American flag, hamburgers, and marriage. All fads. ;)

Ding Ding Ding We have a winner!

I believe the poster is just providing a satire of the "Is Glock Just A Fad" topic. It's just a just a joke.

Geez, 1911 a fad? That's so preposterous -- MORE preposterous even than calling the Glock a fad. 1911 is to fad as breathing is to fad. :D Oh, and if the 1911 were a religion (well, actually, it is!) I think it would be something older than LDS. Modern day creation with a huge following--sounds like Glock and the Mormon faith. No, the 1911 would be more like, oh... worshipping the sun. :D

I'm sorry that the humor of my post was dependent upon having seen/read the 'Glock a fad?' post.

For what its worth, calling Glock a fad gets only 15 replies (so far) while this thread REALLY got a rise outa folks.

Again, sorry for the lame humor attempt.

Just about all modern autos are copies, Yep cheap knock offs of the 1911. The quest has been to design a less expensive to manufacture gun that shoots as well and is as durable, and reliable as a 1911 in .45 ACP.

So far all have failed, Yes they have come up with other tilting barrel locking breech designs, that are different and cheaper to manufacture but not better.

Berettas,Glocks, sigs, HKs all nice guns, Not as nice as a 1911.

1911s will be obsolete when handguns are obsolete

Looks like you're going to have to retake your history class. Do you know who created the 1911?

Actually kind of humerous to read your statement and understand all the connections.
