Another nut goes on a rampage

Active shooter events that end earlier, also produce lower body counts. And sometimes, if ended early enough, the event does not fall into the larger category at all... even though it would have if meaningful resistance hadn't ended it.

+1.

The thing is, you can't deter these things ...... only be prepared if they happen around YOU.

The various .govs should not try to actively deter each person from watching their own lane (I believe that they don't like the competition) - but they can not possibly be everywhere all the time...... YOU will be the only one with you always ......

The shooter was being treated by multiple doctors. By some accounts he refused to take his meds. The son was a 22 year old adult: Not much the parents could do.
Interesting.

Another report indicated he had been diagnosed with Asperger's. The Sandy Hook shooter had also been diagnosed with Asperger's and refused to take his meds.

Asperger's syndrome is a developmental disorder, not mental illness. If this guy was on medication for something, it was more than Asperger's.

Shortly before the attacks began Rodger's therapist informed the shooters parents that he had received the manifesto. The parents raced to the area where their son lived but it was too late.

IMO: The police will take some flak over this one.

Just like the little 100lb woman that stopped the Church shooter a few years ago some one could have stopped this one early . What do you do with a active shooter you shoot them .

What I don't understand is that this was a good looking kid. There should have been no reason whatsoever that he wouldn't be attractive to women -- physically.

The problem he had with women had to be his demeanor, actions, or personality. "Hey baby, let's!" is not a good pickup line for even the best looking guy on the planet.

As to his mental health, the police saw nothing wrong with him and determined that he had no firearms. He schmoozed them and sent them on their way, never giving away who he truly was. This is the way a true psychopath operates and they, not being psychologists, failed to determine his true nature. No one could have determined his true nature in a single informal interview.

There is no blame to go around for the police, the college, politicians, or the NRA. This kid was simply one twisted S.O.B. who flew under the radar.

As for the parents, it seems that they did everything heavenly possible to warn the authorities of the danger this kid presented. All of their efforts were thwarted by his machinations. They must be truly devastated.

Addendum: As for the firearms. He did everything legally. He acquired them legally. They conformed to the state specifications set by the state. The 15 day waiting period was useless. He had 41 ten-round magazines -- all legal in CA.

As for universal background checks, yes, they likely would have caught him trying to buy the firearms if he had been reported. The problem is that those who once were prescribed Prozac as an overactive, and thus, annoying kid would be denied the possession of a firearm even though they would present no danger. There is no happy medium on universal background checks.

You lookin' at the same pic I did?

I'm not seein' it ....... definitely not the most masculine lookin' dude- 22 years old and looked like a 14 year old ..... but maybe that is what is "in" these days ......

but whatever ...... striking out with the ladies is no reason to go on a killing spree .....

Until a crime is committed, what are they to do? What would you, well, not you per se, what would the public have them do prior to an actual criminal act occurring?

Knife, handgun, auto, all used by a demented and perhaps narcissistic individual who was apparently given everything, but who lacked something terribly important in life, notably, Self Control.

The individual had the "Id", seemed to lack the "Ego" and I definitely wonder about any "Superego" present.

But what do I know about such things as "why"? Only that it happened and once again, unarmed victims who thought they were "safe", died or were harmed.

I do expect knee-jerk reaction from those seeking re-election soon.

Yes, the politicians, Brady Bunch, VPC, Bloomberg, and the "Moms". must be seething that this is a long holiday weekend and they will have to wait until Tuesday to climb aboard their soapboxes and claw their way to the top of the pile of victims.

Notice how the firearms unfriendly media only highlights tragic stories oftentimes blaming firearms for every ill in society and then casting a dark shadow on the NRA? They dont talk about the tragedies which have been prevented by firearms, they dont talk about the NRA classes which preach safe and responsible firearms use and they dont talk about the sad shape of the mental health system.

Just the other day I walked by a homeless man on the street who has been left there by society not.in his right mind. This man should not have access to a motor vehicle or kitchen knives let alone a firearm. The media doesnt highlight that man or the reasons why he has been left alone to contend with his disability. You can get rid of all the firearms in the world but it wont solve the obvious issues of mental illness.

Not to many want to foot the bill for comprehensive, paid for by the tax payer mental health services.

That is combined with folks who oppose what would be a new wave of mandatory treatment and hospitalization. That would be seen as violation of civil rights.

I find it hard to believe local authorities did not watch his social media videos. I've raised two sons I the Dallas area. The first thing the school resource officer does anytime there is violence with a kid or threats of violence is scan the internet for suspect posts or videos. It's standing operating procedure sanctioned by the local police department.

Anyone who puts out a video like this murderer did is not sane and should not have access to firearms period. I am not blaming the local law enforcement authorities. I am saying henceforth, it should be SOP to monitor anyone with red flags on the internet. There has to be probable cause and the father's pleas constituted probable cause.

"... and should not have access to firearms period."

Or knives. (Three dead bodies say so.)

Or cars. (How many people did he run over?)

In the immortal words of Archie Bunker, "Wouldja rather they wuz pushed outta windows?"

-- As an aside, I have on my shelves a fascinating book by Grant Duwe, titled Mass Murder in the United States: 1900-1999. It's an enlightening trip through statistics-land, and what I got out of it is that when we ban guns, people intent on mass murder use fires and bombs instead... which drives the per-incident body count waaaaay up.

This guy should have been in an institution and yes he should not have access fo any sharp objects and certainly not access to a driver's license. Is it just me or is it abnormal to publish a long video diatribe on why anyone you disagree with or are offended by should end up in a pile of bones and river of blood?

I wonder which SSRI he was on ?

I mean, every serial shooter in recent history was on one.

I'm guessing one of the new trendy ones, with both SSRI AND SNRI activity, for double your insanity: Cymbalta

SSRI's, SNRI's and Call of Duty. Aside from having guns, these are the most persistent metrics.

Do you blame the drug or the disease it was treating? Leaving mental illness untreated is no solution.

in most cases, the drug for sure. I've heard from plenty of people that the drug itself made them ornery and quick to want to fight. These were docile middle aged folks who had been placed on these drugs simply because they told their doctor they were blue sometimes. I mean, who isn't blue some days ? They quit immediately after realizing what was causing their angry moods.

The SSRI's were forced to come with a blackbox (the strongest) suicide warning by the FDA. It SHOULD have included a homicide warning.

They really are that bad yes.
