Do we imprison everyone on the Autism Spectrum? Heard an idiot on the radio suggest that was it.

There's been a lot of misunderstanding about Asperger's ever since Sandy Hook. For the record, it is a developmental disability, not a mental illness. There aren't "meds" for it. Nor is there any evidence that folks with Asperger's (or any autism) are more inclined towards violence.

First Tom thank you for saying this. I do want to get this off my chest though, as a parent of a child with Aspergers, I get miffed when the correlation and connection to gun violence is made. While some medication helps with the impulse control, the key is therapy and parenting. Working to build skills they themselves are unable to build. Each time I hear this Aspergers connection, I just want to look those people in the eye and ask them what kind of expertise they have with children and adults on the Autism spectrum. Now, I'm not saying that there is no way an individual with ASD would commit these acts, because each case is different(even when as a whole, these individuals aren't violent by nature...)

Anything that can be used as an identifier, will be. Anything that makes them stand out from the "average" or "normal".

The guy who served a tour as a cook on a nuclear sub is Rambo skilled in the media if he goes on a rampage because his girl dumped him, in the media today. Because they can label him a "deranged veteran".

They tar everyone with the widest possible brush, whenever they can. They make more money or get more power that way.

What I have found:

We all get dealt a hand of cards.

Some folks,at some time in their life, might decide they do not enjoy the game.

Some of these folks go over the edge and do harm.

But some have the courage to face the fact they are not real good at playing, they take ownership, and look for some help.

Some Doctors/therapists think the answer is a prescription. For some disorders, maybe so.

But a lot of folks feel a lot of pain simply because they didn't mature into adults for any number of reasons. That is not an excuse to be a jerk....

But a 13 year old living in a 27 year olds body will be a jerk upon occasion. He will apply 13 year old solutions to 27 year old problems.

A Doctor might prescribe Prozac,or whatever...protocol.

But another approach might take that young man on a journey...

He might grow up to be a mature, responsible citizen.

Sorority girls might not be the end of the world if a guy knows about a Brittany on point, hooking a Northern,or having an Old Man teach him how to keep them in the black...Ruark's "The Old Man and the Boy" stuff. Not knocking relationships with Women, those are good, but the heroin junky fix thing about "needing",,,,A young man needs to know how to stand alone, too.Or with other men.

Folks who have gotten help, worked on themselves, faced demons and problems and resolved them...

Are safer, saner, more rational than the guy who says "Hell no,I don't need that crap!I'm fine!!I'm just like them folks on Jerry Springer, and they are on TV"

Excellent!

I am disgusted by the exploitation of tragedy; the "If it bleeds,it leads"degeneration of media and politics.I am disgusted with those who dance with glee in the blood puddles ..."never let a crisis go to waste"

There's no evidence whatsoever that the presence or absence of potential armed resistance prevents these crimes

I think I must be mis-reading that. Of course there is overwhelming evidence of same - the fact that the killers choose "gun free zones" in 99.985% of MPSs is the bulk of the evidence.

But perhaps more importantly, John Lott's research also shows that MPSs reduce with CCW laws. That's multi-year, 3000-county, peer-reviewed, triple-regression analyzed data which shows that CCWs reduce the incidence of MPSs, however slightly. You can refute that?

Nothing is absolute, but unless I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, that's among the falsest statements ever uttered - at least tied for that distinction.

There's no evidence whatsoever that the presence or absence of potential armed resistance prevents these crimes

And then there was that guy who shot up the Castle Rock Police Department who had just killed his kids and wanted to commit suicide. He was quite successful at that. He would fall within that .015%.

Empirical evidence alone would prove the statement to be false just by the fact that they never choose venues which are heavily armed. Heck, even though the Fort Hood shooter shot up a place awash with firearms he knew the law prevented the victims from armed resistance.

So the statement is ludicrous.

Keep looking, the truth is out there, but its tough to see with one's head in the sand....
