Ammo Shortage

I was just over in Destin, Florida this morning and noticed they had a very good supply of high end ammo(270 winchester 52.95 per box) but was completly out of the lower end stuff. I did see some Remingto cor lok for around 20 bucks. Since I reload I wasn't intrested in any of these although I did buy a nice bedside electronic gun safe for my peace of mind.

"bragging about having 10,000 rounds stashed in his garage"

That's all? :)

At 400 rounds a week, that's enough for...carry the two...about 6 months.

At 200 rounds a week it'll last about a year.

Of course there's an ammo shortage, there's a war on.

When I find a good deal on something that I know I will be using regularly I buy a lot of it; toilet paper, paper towels, toothpaste, soap, ammo, etc.

i called blazer brass yesterday and asked them if it was just walmart not ordering more from them or if it was a shortage at their end and they said "we are running as fast as we can, it's leaving the shelves faster than we can put it back on the shelf. I don't see much improvement for a time." my local walmart was picked clean of just about everything , there was still some 32acp and some 7mm , a few boxes of clay shooting 12ga , and oddly a big pile of .40 but that was it . a mile down the street at dicks sporting goods things were just as bad . sadly i can't afford to stockpile ammo and i have to buy it as i need it , which means i don't get to shoot until i find some ammo somewhere . even worse , the only other place that actually has ammo here wants $21 for a box of 50 blazer aluminum 9mm's ....insanity . i hope this gets sorted out soon .

My wife was at Wal-mart yesterday and sent a text that all the had was Blazer in 9mm. I decided to go over to take a look after dinner and found that they had just stocked the shelves with 9mm ammo. Win WB 100 round value packs for $20 and Blazer Brass for $8.97 for 50. I called for assistance and had them unlock the cabinet and the guy asked me how many boxes of the Blazer Brass I wanted and I said "Gimme 20 boxes" which definitely got me a double take from the clerk. I staggered out of the store with a 1000 rounds of 115 grn FMJ for $188.36. I thought that I had made a pretty good deal.

BUY BULK NOW

I actually bought 1000 rounds of bulk .223 from Aim Surplus and the stuff was all the rejects off of the assembly line, really shabby stuff. I'll never buy bulk again. That said, I'll never buy factory ammo again either! Now that I have a reloading setup I can buy reloading dies for a new caliber for about $30. I buy once fired brass and cast my own bullets out of wheel weights. Right now I'm in the process of reloading 2000 rounds of 45 ACP. I can reload 2000 rounds for about $90, that's about the best deal I know of! I also found out that about 1000 rounds of 230 grain 45 ACP weighs about 60 pounds WOW.

:D

I think the economy, stimulus package, and the wars are keeping the politicians busy. Once things settle down you better bet they'll go for our guns and ammo next!

You greedy bastage, leave some for the rest of us!

I am the rest of us. Its not like I have thousands of rounds stockpiled in the basement, I needed that ammo as much as the next guy. But don't be mistaken, I am now in full "Hoard" mode. I have a lump of cash I have set aside for rainy days and it looks like dark clouds on the horizon. It felt good when I came home with that ammo, I was relieved to cache that ammo away.

Since I'm new, I am shooting it as fast as I can find it

I would really like to have some stored up (not sure if I am talking thousands here), but am trying to get all the practice I can as my focus right now

That is exactly the way I think. My stockpile goes way beyond guns and ammunition.

I just bought 1000 rounds of American Eagle 9mm at sportsmans.
The girl at the checkout said I came on the rite day. I tryed my
usual, BI-Mart and they were out. If I limit myself to a box a week
hopefully things will settle down.

The time to buy will be in a few months. Ammo manufactures are ramping
up production. When things settle down the market should get flooded.

Stopped by Wally World tonight. They had received 10 boxes of 9mm 115gr 100 count - not 10 cases, 10 boxes (10 X 100 count) this morning. 10 boxes??? Now they have 2 left. Anyone need 200 rounds?

ammo

any one have a clue how ammo is made besides "a company makes it"I am not talking to reloaders.
the ammo companies have a set amount the line can produce.
they have to break down a line to change cal.
they schedual the production to meet demand.if the demand is to much they cant keep up.
want to fix that????get reloading equipment and load your own.
no one ever fired ammo like its getting shot now.even target shooters never? shot 200 rds a day.
and before WW2 most would fire a box in a month.some [hunters] would buy abox for the season.the ammo companies production lines were based on that.and now soldiers have full auto and use it all up.  :D

While I think Obama has plans for gun-owners, I can't think he'll take any drastic steps until the end of his term (if re-election isn't looking good) or the beginning of his second term. Right now the focus is on economy, and doing anything drastic to gun ownership puts a lot more people jobless. The anti-gun folks would be happy enough, but the rest of the country would be outraged at the double whammy constitutional violation and thousands of unemployed.

Edit: I think that's a good first post.

I'm glad I stopped at Walmart on my way home from work, they had four 100-round boxes of Winchester 9mm. 19.97 a box, I took all four.
