Ammo Shortage

Just all the paranoid peeps who haven't/don't take their prozac who are arming up for the invasion that will never happen. Move along people.....

Glad you of all people see it that way.

I'm not arming and stocking up against an "invasion", I'm doing it against possible draconian gun/ammo laws on the horizon. I may be wrong, but I'm not "paranoid."

The ammo situation around here has been kinda frustrating, too. But I think it'll all settle down before summer. Then we'll see a return to normal. Obama isn't going to ban guns or ammo. Lotsa high-strung gun owners can't be reasoned with on the subject, though.

In the meantime, I've had good luck with prices and availability from some on-line sources. Midway is fairly quick to deliver if you backorder, it seems. Or else I've just been lucky, so far. ;)

How do you know what Obama is or isn't going to do? Nobody knows anything at this point, but I'd say the chances that he's going to do nothing at all before he's done are pretty low. And if not him, then the people he's brought on his coattails.

then call me paranoid

If buying a couple hundred extra rounds and any guns i cannot live without is paranoid then I guess you can call me paranoid (I call it just being Prepared)!

Ammo Shortage or Ammo Sales?

I kept reading that it was flying off the shelves. It was deer season, first Bow, then Shotgun, Muzzleloader, etc so i wasn't hitting the range. Last weekend i saw it firsthand, and my buddy who runs the sporting goods at the local wallyworld confirmed it - when a shipment comes in, it flies off the shelf. Not only are people buying it up more quickly, but they're buying more of it at a time.
so i went to a different walmart, where nobody ever works at the sporting goods counter. They had several whiteboxes of 9mm, .38 and .357. Note i said the word "had". Now I have it.

I can't believe this?????????? In my life time have never seen anything like this before:eek:People buy ten of thousands of rounds of ammunition ever one think we are going to have a war!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This can't all be just from the new president:)

Not just Walmart. All the local stores here are reaching the bottom of the barrel too.

Could it be that the manufacturers are stocking up? (In case the price of raw materials or taxes on them go up? It would make the stock they held back much more profitable down the road.) Could explain why less stock is hitting shelves.

if you want to shoot, reload! that's the best way to be safe!

i only carry factory ammo in my semi-auto handguns that i carry for protection, the shotguns, and .22s of course!

There is no evidence whatsoever that less stock is hitting the shelves.

It is hard to believe, but it's real. Saw one guy on one forum (don't recall which) that was bragging about having 10,000 rounds stashed in his garage. I am not making this up.

A "liberal" Democrat President who claimed, while he was running, that he wouldn't infringe on he 2nd Amendment but has a history of doing just that and was responsible for the infamous "cling to guns" comment. Now add a "liberal" Democrat majority in both Houses of the legislature. Is it any wonder gun-owners are a bit paranoid?

You must also factor-in the effect of new gun-owners. With the economy in such rough shape, and widely believed to most likely get worse before it gets better, there are people that didn't used to be gun-owners becoming gun-owners out of fear of increasing crime levels. They need ammo, too. There is probably also some percentage of new gun-owners that have been provoked into gun-ownership by the "Obama Effect."

I believe that a major reason is new gun owners who are buying out of fear of a perceived meltdown of society looming in the horizon. Will it happen? Heck if I know. But I can tell you this, my pacifist, Buddhist leaning brother in law bought a rifle fior the sole purpose of defending his family if it all goes cow crap. If people with those beliefs are scared what does that say for the country?

As for me, I have a pretty fair stockpile of ammunition. Not nearly enough yet to make me comforatable, but more than some have said they have on here, and far less than the ones who say they have 10's of thousands of rounds.

As for Wallyworld or anywhere else and their ammo supplies it is simply supply and demand at its best. Right now the demand is kicking the begeezus out of the supply in many places.

i called blazer brass yesterday and asked them if it was just walmart not ordering more from them or if it was a shortage at their end and they said "we are running as fast as we can, it's leaving the shelves faster than we can put it back on the shelf. I don't see much improvement for a time." my local walmart was picked clean of just about everything , there was still some 32acp and some 7mm , a few boxes of clay shooting 12ga , and oddly a big pile of .40 but that was it . a mile down the street at dicks sporting goods things were just as bad . sadly i can't afford to stockpile ammo and i have to buy it as i need it , which means i don't get to shoot until i find some ammo somewhere . even worse , the only other place that actually has ammo here wants $21 for a box of 50 blazer aluminum 9mm's ....insanity . i hope this gets sorted out soon .

Not only has our new President ands Congress started a run on ammo, they have had the same effect on guns too, especially "assult type" weapons. While the gun laws are rather loose here in Indiana, the local gun stores can't keep ARs and AKs in stock. As soon as word gets out that a store has some in stock, the rush to that store begins and in a few hours they're sold out. Of course, this causes price inflation too due to the demand factor. Some local clubs are doing group buys of AR uppers, lowers and parts then having AR assembly parties so the experienced guys can help the newbies assemble their new guns.
This is crazy! Glad I bought that Dillon 550 last year.

I've always wanted to get into handguns (having shot rifles & shotguns for as long as I can remember)

I finally had the means to do so (and was a little more motivated as I now have a kid) and I can hardly find ammo, and what I do find is usually pretty high

Bad timing I guess
