a reminder about why we shouldn't forget to carry!!!

Meh, you should consider yourself lucky that you have the option to carry at all. Spare a thought for your poor brothers and sisters in arms over here in Australia. When someone brandishes a firearm at us, the law states we have no right to defend ourselves in kind. "But thats what the police are for!" comes the cry from the anti-gun lobby, "Civilians dont need guns!". So we do the right thing, and we get murdered, and we wait patiently for 30 minutes untill the well meaning officers turn up to chalk up your outline on the ground. Because using a firearm for self-defence is illegal children! Remember now, better off dead than a term of imprisonment for unlawful use of a firearm!

Regardless of weather you are for or against carrying. Its a right that you as Americans should hold dear and fight for. Even if you were in the aforementioned situation with a concealed weapon and chose NOT to deploy it, hell, at least you have the CHOICE. When it all comes down to it, its not the fact that you ARE carrying, its the human factor behind it.

There was a time in my beautiful country where one could walk down the street with a rifle slung over ones shoulder on the way to a shoot, those times are gone for us now, dont let them be for you.

I'm always more concerned with someones dog going after my toddler. Some people don't do a proper job training aggresive breeds.

Greetings all,

So what, because he has a shotgun pointed at you, you shouldn't even consider pulling your pistol? Lord
What if that shotgun was loaded and he decided to pull the trigger on one of you? Are you just going to wait your turn? I sure hope not.
To me, when a person points a gun at someone else he is basically forfeiting his life. If that moron hunter was shot it would have been his own fault.
This is a great reason to carry PERIOD!

Take care and Merry Christmas :)

I'm not sure if any of you are familiar with Greg Perry... if not read this, it's great: http://www.lewrockwell.com/perry/perry11.html

Anyway... Perry makes the statement that he loves his family for than he fears the government, and would carry even if not legal in his state. I agree with this %100.

And Plom, great story we all need reminders like this.

Where is it legal to hunt on sundays? Something does not seem right with this situation. Glad everyone is safe.

A properly trained LEO should be able to anylize the situation and determine if and when to pull his weapon in such a situation. So in his case he should have had his weapon on him actually both of them should be armed. In that way if things really turned bad they both would stand a chance of surviving by reacting as they were trained. I am never without mine and there have been many situations where I could have legally pulled my weapon but didn't. The thing is I had my weapon and I had the option if I had to. Without the weapon all you can do is lay down and take one to the back of the head.

I'll leave the what if's alone and say I agree with the intended

statement...

I can't imagine going for a walk with my dog and not having either a pistol or a rifle along and probably both it it's out in the country.

Most everywhere I’ve been there’s a leash law or some type of law that saws you must maintain control of your dog. If that’s the case in your local then you initiated this situation. He was wrong when he pointed his weapon at you and your party.

My wife and I often take walks on public land filled with dag walkers. Nothing annoys me more than those that let their dogs run free. We have two German Shepherds that are very friendly, but when we’re out with them they’re leashed at all times, because it’s the law and it’s respectful of others. I should have to be an expert like the Dog Whisperer and know when a dog is aggressive or not. KEEP IT LEASHED OR KEEP IT AT HOME!!!

I am just puzzled, why does the guy having the shotgun is empty. What is the point that he is carrying his shotgun without an ammo.:)

Of course if someone will point at you a gun and you are carrying the possibility is to draw your pistol as fast as you can and eliminate the threat.

That guy was 100% wrong for not having his dog on a leash!
The whole pointing a shotgun at people thing isn't cool either.

Good lord....

You can tell the folks who don't live in or grew up in the country.

I agree that in the city, having your dog on a leash is good...but my dog lives to be able to go out and run free when she gets out in the country. If the other guy was carrying a shot gun I assume this was pretty rural and rural enough for one to be letting their dog run free.

Yes, sometimes you and the dog run up on someone else and or another dog...that's life and you deal with it... but not by pointing your gun at them.

I grew up in the country too--in the " sticks" for sure.

Country or City, doesn't matter, I don't need to be bothered by your dog anywhere.

Yep, you deal with it AND you may not like how the person that your dog runs up on "deals" with it.

You have to accept the risk of your dog getting injured of killed if YOU choose to let it run free---it's injury or death would be ON YOU.
Locally, in the last year or so, we had a gentleman killed by a couple of dogs in his driveway and two elementary school children chewed up when they were walking to their school bus on a rural country road---and of course, the usual bites and stuff.

In todays society, you're just opening yourself up to risk if you let your dogs run free and you could be putting your dog in danger.
I had a couple of strange pit bulls coming to my house last year---they scratched the crap out of my screen doors jumping up on them and jumped up on my wife when she got home from work ---she REALLY REALLY liked that!!
I made a call to animal control----come get them or I'll deal with them myself.
They weren't going to come and said I couldn't harm them unless they were attacking someone.
I ASSURED the officer that my next call would state that they were attacking my wife and I had to protect her-----they came and managed to get one of them, the other one got away----that day.

The other guy 's dog apparently wasn't on a leash either as the post stated they came upon the other dog then the hunter.

It may have been a hunting dog. If it was being used for that purpose then it can't be leashed.

That guy was 100% wrong for not having his dog on a leash!

KEEP IT LEASHED OR KEEP IT AT HOME!!!

There are also areas where leashes are the exception rather than the rule. We have some property in my area that is owned and managed by a university. They allow complete, essentially unlimited, public access. There are tree huggers hugging every tree in the forest, most with unleashed dogs. Some of the same land is open to hunting also and the hunters are on the bottom of the totem pole. Any hunter that pointed his gun at an unleashed dog would likely be ending the hunting access to all of the universities lands.

Now, as has been said, if that gun HAD been loaded and anyone thinks pulling a gun on someone who already has you covered is a good idea... well, you'd be dead. You're already way too far behind the curve to start playing Rambo with this guy.

Also, I can't believe the LEO didn't arrest the guy for menacing or something. It's clearly illegal to point a gun, loaded or not, at someone who hasn't committed a crime.
