a handgun that you would buy another of

I can't say I would ever have two of the exact same gun. Don't really see the point but I will tell you that if anything were to happen to my Sig 226 or Ruger GP100 I'd replace them both in a heart beat. In all my years of owning guns these two and my older Sig 229 are the only guns I've liked enough to replace and even the 229 is a maybe.

Yes, I buy more than one of the same model often....

1911's ....
a. more than one Wilson - both 5" guns ( one of them is my primary carry gun
b. more than one Kimber...a 4" and a 5"
c. a Les Baer, an Ed Brown...
d. there will be at least one more Wilson Combat 1911 down the road...and in all probability it'll be another gun in 5" and .45 acp ..

Sig Sauers
a. a pair of 226's one in 9mm one in .40
b. a pair of 239's one in 9mm and one in .40

Revolvers...
a. a pair of model 19's 4" Nickel
b. a pair of model 66's 4" stainless - and a 2 1/2" just because...
c. a pair of model 29's - both 8 3/8" Nickel
d. model 629's in 3", 6" and 8 3/8" barrels
e. a pair of model 27's one in 4" nickel , one in 6" blued..

and I have some stand alone revolver models...
a. like a model 18 - K 22 combat masterpiece in 4" / but when I find another one, I'll buy it as well.
b. a 686 model in 6" ...but I may add a 4" or a 2 1/2" down the road
c. a model 617 6" .22 ...

and some stand alone semi-autos
a. like a sig X-Five in .40S&W ...haven't found a 9mm yet...but it'll come.
b. a couple of old High Standard .22's
c. a Browning Buckmark .22

and a few others I'm probably forgetting.

I had a great time at the range last nite...
a. a pair of model 27's ( .357 mag ) 4" and 6" - and 8 boxes of ammo
b. a model 686 6" ....357 mag as well
c. a model 18 ( .22 revolver ) - and 500 rds ...
and amused myself for a couple of hours ...in and out of holsters / doing some double taps / some reloads ( that I really suck at ...) ...but its a skill I'm working on ...

I'm a shooter --- and I shoot and collect what I like ! And when I choose to carry - I carry the gun I shoot the best ...so its a 5" Wilson CQB in .45acp.

Over time - I'll pass some of the extras down to the adult kids ..and grandkids .../ a good 1911, a good revolver, a good Trap shotgun, a good Skeet shotgun ...and a gunsafe ...and get their collections started - (before I pass on ) although only being 61 yrs old, I expect to be around for awhile. A lot of the guns I pick up - because I enjoy the search a lot - are used, at gun shows or shops that deal in used guns on consignment, etc .../ I enjoy the Hunt...and the shooting..

PK, I can think of two reasons for having (reasonably) identical guns, off the top of my head

Eh, ok, to each his own I suppose. Neither would apply to me and both seem remote enough that I doubt I would willingly spend hundreds of dollars on a second gun, just in case.
Seems like buying the most likely to break internal parts would be more logical and a lot cheaper.
It's America though, by 6 of 'em if it makes your eyes twinkle. ;)

True, PK, to each his own, but let's look at one example...

Went to Firearms Academy of Seattle in August, for a class with Massad Ayoob. Pax (Kathy Jackson) works there; she recommended that I bring a spare, just in case, because failures have been known to happen.

FAS is a nice facility, but they are over a 30 mile drive to Olympia, so finding an open shop, with required parts, could prove a challenge. Buying another handgun, when not a Washington resident, would be illegal and effectively impossible.

So... airfare from ATL to SEA (round trip) plus cost of hotel for five days plus cost of rental car for five days plus cost of ammo shipped to FAS (they don't stock ammo there)... plus $800 for course... I'd say I had about $3000 into the trip.

I was using a S&W M&P45 as primary; it seemed to me that $550ish for a second M&P (compact) was not a bad price to pay, to ensure that I wouldn't screw up a $3000 trip; besides, having a second gun with similar handling characteristics, manual of arms, and ammo, plus one-way magazine interchangeability did not seem like a bad thing.

As it turned out, no.

Then again, so far I haven't needed my CCW, either. Yet I still carry it.

I have, on the other hand, had occasion to use the first aid kit in my truck; the first aid kit on my buddy's boat; the life preserver and helmet the kayak rental place made me wear on the Nantahala River; the helmet the ski rental shop recommended the time I tried to learn how to snowboard; the helmet I was wearing when I had a major mountain bike wreck...

In other words, I do believe in safety equipment, and its use; and I have no problem with redundancy.

My son and I plan on going squirrel hunting. If he likes it we will probably buy another Savage Model 64 and mount the same type of scope on it. Of course, if I find a Ruger 10/22 I guess that would work too, but it would be cool if we both had the exact same gun setup and then see who bagged the most tree rat! Count head shots only!

No problem, PK.

The only "duplicates" I have are still not quite duplicates. I have three 3" K357s: 1 M13, 1 M65 bright stainless, and 1 M65 matte stainless. My wife kind of appropriated the bright M65...

Otherwise, I tend to have matching sets of smaller and larger. For example, M&P45 and M&P45c; full size 1911 and CBOB; PX4 Compact and PX4SC 9mm. Allows easier carry in hotter weather (smaller guns), and better capacity and control when concealing the bigger guns is more feasible.

Lately, though, I've noticed that I prefer the full-size guns. I'm generally able to conceal them. Advantage to being large, but not quite fat.

Cheers,

M

Mmmmm....

I CAN see having a 1911 and a CBOB. Definitely, I can see that. Especially a 10mm long slide Fusion and a Dan Wesson CBOB 10mm. Both with some of Sarge's sweet grips.

Now I'm drooling.

Out of the 3 guns I have, 2 are LCRs , one is a GP 100. Having 3 guns is more of being able to distribute them through my location than anything else. One LCR is carry and the others I can get to quickly. ( I typically don't carry in the house unless I am going out that day or after coming home and have not finished the day. )

PK, I've got a Les Baer Ultimate Tactical Carry waiting for me when I get home. I'm fighting the urge to get a Stinger to go with that one...

My CBOB does in fact have some of Sarge43's grips on it; buckeye burl, kind of a greenish grain pattern.

Cheers,

M

Funny that it is an LC9. I have one and have considered another, 1 for pocket and 1 for truck console box. When I drive I can't get at my pocket piece very well, so another gun in a handy location is good, especially if I would need my wife to use it in a situation.

I had hoped that she would take a liking to my LC9 and then I would then get one for her. Two is much better than one, and a duplicate LC9 would actually be very practrical. My truck gun is now an LCR357, which is no slouch, just think a second LC9 would serve better there.

I know survivalists that have two of the same just in case they need spare parts during the 'impending' chaos (whereby the free market ceases to exist making parts hard to come by).

-Cheers

I'd buy another Ruger LCR. I just bought my wife one. She loves it and I like to shoot it. It has a great trigger and grip. I'd like one for myself to add to my carry herd.

I'd also buy another Cimmeron Uberti Artillery model 45 colt just to have a set.

Norinco 1911A1

I have 2 Norinco 1911A1s.

Originally had one; it was stolen from my vehicle.

Bought another.

2 years later, police recovered my original and returned it to me.

I think from time to time about selling the original, but have not yet.

We have several duplicates in the house. 2 Ruger 10-22s, 2 S&W model 15s, and 2 Ruger Mark 2 bull barreled target pistols. The reason these are duplicated is the wife inherited the 15 from her father and I already had one and the rugers because I got tired of haveing to re-sight them after she changes them so I grab the chance to buy new guns (I duplicated 2 but ended up buying 3)
