A "Craigslist" for guns: Armslist

I found this link on another forum and figured I'd post the link, hopefully it is kosher to do so. I would I really like to see this website catch on. It's like Craigslist but for guns, ammo, archery, knives and stuff like that. It's called Armslist and I think it's a great idea. Anyways, here is the link:

Disclaimer: I have absolutely nothing to do with this website!

Ah the benefits and pitfalls of the "network effect."

Can't get people to check your site because there are no listings, and can't get listings because no one checks your site.

Makes it tough to launch a good competitor to sites like Craigslist, eBay, etc.

Thanks for the heads up. I don't think there can ever be too many gun sales venues, especially local ones that are free. You need to keep bumping your post so that more people will become aware. Hopefully the snowball effect will occur!

No offense, but what's the point? Virtually every gun forum to which I belong (with the sole exception of .......

http://forums.1911forum.com/index.php

........has a section for guns for sale.

Plus, there's Gunbroker, Gunsamerica, Gunlist, and Auctionarms. In addition, there are the forums local to the members, such as Calguns, or OKShooters, etc.

I think we already have plenty of venues for gun sales. I honestly can't see the need for yet another.

I can see your point, but here is where I can see the advantages if you buy it locally (from a private individual) off a site such as armslist or swapgiant:

1. There is no shipping involved.....saving you $15-??
2. There is no FFL involved....saving you $10-???
3. There is no sales tax (vs. a used gun from a local store)....saving you ??
4. You can see the gun IN PERSON before buying....no suprises
5. Instant Gratification! I see it, I handle it, I buy it, I take it home. No waiting (depending on local laws of course).

And from the sellers viewpoint:

1. No shipping hassles
2. Get cash in hand ASAP
3. Look over potential trade material before agreeing to a trade

In my local forum, you do get some guns for sale, but how many local firearms owners are on that forum? A very small percentage. If these sites catch on, you'll see way more used guns for sale than you would ever see on your local forums. And as wishin said, there can never be too many gun sales venues. Assuming the same purchase price, a good deal on a locally bought gun wins out over a good deal on a gun that has to be shipped and transferred.....every time.

I encourage everyone to pass these kind of sites around. The more people that know about it, the better. Sites like Craigslist don't get started in a day, it takes time and word of mouth.

So pass it on!

The more the better.

SwapGiant.com

I think not only is the right to own firearms is an American virtue, but so is healthy competition in business. When you have competition, you force the original business to get better or go under, and maybe the new guy on the block is doing it better! True, SwapGiant has many guns in Ohio, but that's because the Ohioans have chosen to help the site grow. If we in other areas want to see more ads to respond to for guns or anything else, it's up to us at this point. And that's what I actually like about SwapGiant.....read the forum about the guy that started it. He's not a businessman out to make a buck, in fact he puts his own money into it for all of us to enjoy.

Tell your friends about SwapGiant for guns and anything else. I for one would like to see SwapGiant get big in all areas; guns, autos, kids toys, whatever. I think it's healthy competition, and it sucks having only one real place to go...and CraigsList is cool, but the flagging sucks!

Thanks for listening!

affirmative....

Check out this site http://www.montanaguns.org

I basically built it for myself.

I've shared it with a few friends and they really liked it so I cleaned it up a bit.

I was planning to use the site as a craigslist for guns, I procrastinated too long and if you can't beat em.....

A totally novice page but practical for my hobby.

Everyone should enjoy the freedom of ownership, now more than ever.

Enjoy if so.

PS, if my comment got lost in there, I approve, http://www.armslist.com will rule.

google "craiglist for guns" , thats how I got here...

In my case in TN.

FFL charges are $20+ that is if you can find a FFL for under 30. Mine costs me $35 which includes TICS check.

I have tried to find local guns for hock but there's not much out there. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. One thing for sure tho.. Getting stuck with over-or-@retail prices+shipping+transfer is really pssss'n me off

Very few of us actively participate in many sites. I am on TFL everyday. Here are a few others I check once a week. A dedicated site is much better for me than trying to check 15 different sites.
swapgiant is much easier for ME to navigate and it is beginning to offer a few other things in ohio besides guns. I like tools and such also.

Plus all the local advantages.

No offense, but what's the point?
I think it would be really cool to be able to search by region so that you could find what's for sale locally or semi-locally, rather than scour all the known universe. Get to look and fondle and also get a feel for the seller before spending your hard-earned cash. Because let's face it, there is virtually no accountability for an internet forum classified seller.

I agree, I use Craigslist about once a month or more. Next time I sell a gun or ammo I will list on here. It's gotta start somewhere. It would be really nice to have a free site to buy and sell firearms.
