642 Club @ TFL

Well, I'm late getting here, but better late than never.

It does my heart good to find a 642 Club here on TFL. IMO, the 642 in a Mika round-cut pocket holster is the best carry configuration. It's what I use every time I carry.

Rusty Screw?!?

I've heard more than one person complain about how the grip screw to their Airweight/Airlight becomes rusted after just a week or so of carrying. That's pathetic and just confirms the quality control issues I've read others complain about regarding Smith & Wesson. How could S&W miss this before releasing this model to the general public? Do all their guns have this particular issue???

I'm getting the M&P 340 CT at some point and will be sorely pissed if the damn screws start rusting after a week of carrying...

Here's my application for membership. I'm a refugee from the 642 club at THR. I see I'm not the only one. Hi guys, good to see you again. In reference to the rusty grip screw I had the same problem. Cleaned it up and coated it with clear lacquer (nail polish) and its been ok for six months now. This is my EDC in a Mika or Nemesis.

I purchased my 638-3 around Christmas and feel it's one of the better buys I've made, gun-wise. I still like my compact Colt .45 and its IWB holster for the days I can wear a jacket or my aloha shirt but the S&W pretty much reigns supreme the rest of the time. (I like having the hammer also.)

They're great little guns.

Like the factory style rubber boot grips but wish they were a little more hand filling? Check these out:

They're only like $9 and they work great. Unlike the S&W grips, they cover the back strap and have a slight palm swell and add very little bulk . And just like the S&W grips, they don't extend past the end of the grip frame.

I had to drill a new grip pin hole (as an experiment i removed the pin entirely and ran 100 rounds through it without the grips shifting) and modify the Taurus emblem. I ground it smooth, applied a thick coat of JBWELD, sanded it smooth and painted it flat black.

Most people think they're factory grips.

My wife has a 642 and a 3"md 37.

I have 2 Md 38s, 2 Md 49s, Md 36, Md 650, Md 34, Md 649.

Needless to say we like "J" frames !!!

I carry the same and love it. Without a doubt my bob mika holster is the best $20 I have spent on gun gear.

640-1 Didn't like the "bannana" shaped factory grips. Too grabby when carried on the hip. Set of S&W custom shop boot grips looked great, didn't grab clothing , but lost the use of pinky on grip because they are short. Finally fit it with Crimson Trace Laser grips. Mint. Yes its heavy being a steel frame , but for me , it's worth it when i can grind up a box of 180 gr. .357 loads and be sorry when I shot up the box. Carry it every day in a Cen-Tec Kydex holster.

Count me in, My 642 is my constant companion. If I'm not carrying it in my pocket, its in my pants pocket hanging on the bedpost while I sleep.

It was kind of funny, just last night we had some neighbors over for dinner and got to talking about the Clackamas Mall shooting. When I mentioned I chastised my daughter for leaving her gun in the car, the neighbor lady says she's known me for years and never seen me carry.

I told her concealed is concealed and slid the butt of my revolver out of my pocket to show her. She laughed and said, "I never knew" I told her she wasn't suppose to know, no one is.

The 642 is the perfect gun, in my opinion, for this.
