.22 handguns

That I can afford... Browning Buckmark.

That I'd like to have... S&W Mod 41.

Super easy question. S&W M41, first place by a mile. Not just my favorite rimfire, my favorite gun. Of course, if I was buying now, I don't know if I would lay out that much dough for it.

Trailing the 41...
- Ruger
- Browning Buck Mark
- S&W 22A

That Berreta Neos looks really interesting. If I were in the market for another .22, that'd probably be the one. And I would love, one day, to own one of those European target models, like a Pardini or Benelli.

For serious plinking and treerat assassinations out to 50 yrds or so, the DW 722 hands down, tho it has lost the red dot.

For dumdum suckers at 100 yrds, it has to be my MGM 14" 22 match barrel on my contender.

Rugers offerings. Be it a MKI, MKII, or 22/45. The only reason I've ever had one not fire was because of bad ammo. Target accurate, nice SA trigger, can be had about any way you want it. RECGUNS has easy instructions on how to break it down and put them back together.

My Bersa 23 (aka FireStorm Thunder 22) is the one gun that is going to the grave with me (says so in my will).

Nicest one I've handled or shot is my wife's Beretta Model 87 Cheetah. DA first shot or can be carried Cocked & Locked. Just big enough to fill the hand and not seem like a toy but no bigger or heavier than it has to be. 10 round magazines and so far, functions like a dream. I'd shoot it more but she won't let me (smiley face goes here).

love my 22a, mainly because it's getting my wife into shooting .. however, my favorite .22 was a Taurus .22mag revolver which I stupidly sold to buy something else ... just got a new 637, so it will be a while before I collect the cash, but my next .22 will be a wheel gun ...

For the most part its the Ruger MK II. I have three of them in different varieties. However, for serious target work its my Benelli MP95E "Atlanta". Very, very accurate and easy to shoot well.

Right now I've got a Single-Six, a couple MKII's, an old H&R, A few NAA's and a Smith model 63 (5"). The Single-Six and the Smith are without doubt my favorites. The MKII's are wonderful guns but I'm just a revolver guy.

If accuracy is your #1 priority, then go with the Ruger Mk !!!, unless you have an extra $1000 to spend on your pistol. If 'fun' is what you want, buy a Firestorm .22. It is just like the Firestorm or Bersa .380, which is a better than orginal copy of the Walther PPK.

No matter how many or which guns we take to the range, our Firestorm gets more attention than any other.

What's your favorite .22 handgun, and why?

Walther PP.
Light, easy to shoot and a real joy. I have had mine for almost 30 years and it has had countless rounds through it. I do not regret getting it either. :)
Ruger Super Single Six. With the two cylinders it offers you .22 long rifle and .22 Magnum. A good, solid and very reliable shooter. It will outlast the original purchaser and then some.

I agree with others who say a conversion kit. I have other .22 pistols, but I find that lately my 1911 conversion makes it into my bag more. Plus it never hurts to build muscle memory while you have a little fun.

I have to agree with the many who say there are lots of fun .22 choices out there. I don't own, but have shot my buddy's Ruger and Browning semi-auto's many times and really like them both. I do own a Ruger Single Six .22 / .22Mag in blue with a 6" barrel. I love this single action pistol. As you may guess from my FL "handle", I have a jones for cowboy guns and Western movies and my Ruger SS feeds that passion. I am looking forward to teaching my daughters how to shoot a handgun using the SS. It was my first handgun and I learned to shoot it well before graduating to a S&W 686 DA revolver and then a couple of semi's for carry. Doesn't matter, I still take the SS to the range and really enjoy shooting it. It is also very cool that you can take half-a-minute to swap out the cylinder and have a .22Mag too.

I do understand the Ruger Single Six may not be your cup of tea if you are looking for more than just a fun single action gun for the range or killing cans. My next planned purchase is either the Ruger or Browning semi-auto pistol, tho' it too will be for the range and can killing. Heavier caliber SA revolvers are on the purchase list too for my cowboy gun fixation.

Thanks to everyone who posted photos. I never knew that there so many .22 handguns were out there with scopes...

Ruger single six 22lr/22wmr, so simple It's simpley a blast

I agree Ruger single six. Been shooting one for 40 years and it is much fun and pretty dang accurate.

Hardly any of you have mentioned the S & W 617 and I'm a bit surprised by that because it is, bar none, the finest double action .22 revolver out there. I have a 4" model, one of the early ones made back in about 1981, and I shoot it more than all of my other guns combined.

Now, on the other hand, my wife tells me that the absolute BEST .22 is her Smith & Wesson Model 41. She may be right about that. Either it's more accurate than my 617 or she's just a better shot. Aww, who am I kidding:D

She is probably right, the Model 41 is a very nice pistol from what I have heard. I have a S & W 22A but it doesn't compare to the 41 in quality or price.
