.22 handguns

My favorite .22 handguns are a tossup between a S&W K-22 and a High Standard "Military" auto. My High Standard "Sport King" with interchangeable barrels is nice too. I like my Beretta 21-A for CC; although it's a bit wide in the grips it holds nice. In fact, I like ALL my .22's, except maybe the Jennings "throwaway".

In no particular order:

Walther PPK 22LR (I would pay a pretty penny for one of these)

Conversion kits are fine for training but I don't care for them as a substitute for a standard .22 for fun shooting. The conversion kit usually has all the good and bad features of the host gun, plus it is usually heavier and bulkier than a good .22 has to be. Accuracy and reliability may be OK, but conversions are not noted for either compared to a regular .22.

Ive put over 8k rounds through my Advantage Arms 22 kit for the G19 and i have to say, its pretty darn accurate with the recommended cheapo Remington Golden Bullets. At 25 yards unsupported, i can make 4" groups. At 5 yards i like to try for 1" groups. :D

I like the

Browning Buck Mark the best

But I love the Rugers. MK-2 and 3

There are always other options... But I like my .22's to be well built, well enough to virtually last a life time... I find the Rugers and Browning's to be best all around. They are basically range guns, although not exactly self defense or target pistols, they can fulfill those roles, and are all around accurate, Dependable, and easy to operate.

.22 revolvers

Not much mention of versitility of .22 revolvers for the BB caps and no powder loads great back yard applications. and even indoors with proper ventalation.

Favorite.

Favorite? This one gets put in my pocket the most. I'm apt to take it on a woods walk or just general carry while outside working around. It goes in my vest pocket every time the setter and I go looking for grouse. Only 11oz. loaded.

I've had my Buckmark for over 20 years. Well over 100,000 rounds it's rolled a lot of cans, taken a lot of game and is still very accurate.

Browning or Ruger, get the one that fits and shoots the best in your hands and you won't go wrong.

Just added a Kadet .22 kit to my CZ and am really liking it so far. Not as accurate as my SW 41 but the feel is close and it will get better as I shoot it more (OK meant I will get better ;) The feel is close enough to safely say my model 41 will be for sale soon. Would love to keep both but with the economy being the way it is right now that isn't happening.

Should ad I have had 3 different single six 22/22 mag and 1 was an average shooter, one was wild groups and the buntline was a tack driver. Never did figure out why the wild one was the way it was but even at 20 feet it would never do better than a 6 or 7 inch grouping while the buntline could do 3 inch at 50. Of course my 61 year old eyes where only 30 years old then.

I had a single six a few years back, and it always shot to the left no matter what. Could that have been the gun, or was it me?

I like a Browning Buckmark and any 22 revolver you like / can afford.

I have a S&W model 17 that I like a lot but I was looking at them online a while back and it's almost too valuable to shoot. If you can find one you can afford look hard at it.

I won't retire any gun I own, but I may relegate this one to a hallowed place of respect in the safe.

Nobody has mentioned the little Walther P22. Does nobody have one, or does nobody like them? I only know one person who has one.

I had one but didn't care for it much. I'm sure many people do enjoy them, but when compared to many of the often mentioned pistols here, the P22 just doesn't rate IMHO. That doesn't mean it can't be someone's favorite of course.

I'm new to this game so I can't really compair much. But I've bought a FN Browning Medalist .22 and love it. Very accurate, doesn't jam and looks good.

I have a S & W 22A that is very dependable .....now. It took a while for it to quit being finicky but it never misses a beat now and eats any kind of ammo. Very light trigger. I'm not too crazy about the ergonomics but I guess I'm used to it now. 22's are not my favorite range gun but with the cost and scaricity of ammo I usually spend a hour or so at the range plinking with the 22. Actually it's kinda fun!
A friend of mine bought his wife a Sig Mesquito that will only operate with CCI Stinger (I think) or Winchester Super X High Velosity ammo. I tried some regular 40 grain Federal in it but it turned into a single shot, failed to fire next round every time. Factory rep told my friend that the Mesquito is a high bred percision machine that will only operate with the best ammo. That sounds kinda crazy to me.

My favorites are the Rugers. I've a Mark I that I liked so much I had to improve on it and bought a stainless Mark II shown below. Putting them back together after cleaning is a snap if you know what you're doing, but to me cleaning any weapon is a pain. Still, it has to be done.;) Now I'd really love to have a S&W 41, but let's be serious.:(
