"The fact that folks dont buy HKs due to its price skews the polls. Otherwise, I am really not sure what 9mm beats P30 and what 45 beats the HK45."-- Quote
I'll take the bait. I think the HK P7 is a superior 9mm to a P30 and a good 1911 is a better .45 acp thrower than the HK45 (Although they are all excellent handguns and it's purely a matter of personal taste; I'll take any of them. And this is the internet. We're supposed to argue). I'm sure I'm not the only one that would think that way since it is a matter of opinion, and both have a very loyal following for a variety of reasons.
Back to the topic, I think the S&W M&P should be the "2008 Handgun of the Year." The reason is purely due to the fact they have finally offered an excellent polymer, low maintenance, and inexpensively made (akin to the other polymer pistols) weapon that law enforcement should be able to purchase and trust. It also incorporates some things (i.e., good sights, ergonomic design, ambidextrous abled mag release, ability to field strip without pulling the trigger, safety in some) which may be considered weaknesses in other polymer pistols.
I don't remember any revolver introductions this year that really caught my attention.
