For many of us the preference keep changing and we like different things at different time. We sometimes get excited and buy a handgun, but after using it extensively, we realize that it's not what we really want in a handgun.

That said, I would like to know which pistol do consider that should be given the best handgun 2008 award, if there was such an award, and why?

This is just for fun and to see which handgun has been most popular in 2008.

If your choice is not listed please mention it in the heading of your post and we can count it in at the end, if it's significant in number.

This has already been decided. The Shooting Industry gave the 2008 Handgun of the Year Award to Ruger for the Ruger LCP.

See this web page for details:

seems like ruger has done well this year.

I myself am leaning to buy P99.

What about G21SF?

HKP30?
HK 45?

I think that HK has outclassed everyone in their 2008 products.

Not by a long shot. The Ruger LCP had a far more successful new product introduction than any of the new HK's, and the Shooting Industry recognized that in their 2008 Handgun of the Year Award to it. In fact, if you tallied up the sales of both the HK45 and P30, they would be absolutely pitiful compared to the number of units the Ruger LCP has sold this year.

So who had the bigger impact on the public this year? Who did most of the public support? Certainly not HK. How many P30 and HK45 handguns did you personally buy this year??

Your criteria for your poll is really both extremely muddled and also very flawed.

Next time you attempt a poll, try to come up with some clearly defined criteria.

American Rifleman Handgun of the Year "D JUDGE"

The people doing the NRA gun awards lost their minds years ago. The picked the best overall new gun for 2008 to be the Weatherby Orion over-under shotgun.

They are seriously out of touch with reality to be choosing guns like these.

.

Guns and Ammo and Shooting Times both selected "the judge". I personally don't like them based only on looks alone. That ungodly long cylinder just doesn't do it for me! Expensive to shoot, 45colt is bad enough, but try to find 410 with 000 buck.

ruger may have made pistols and sold many since the price factor....they are cheap comparatively.

Hk45 is expensive yet a great improvement of USP45. The extra bucks you pay for HK pays off. How many people have you know who complain about HK's reliability?

this one is getting too close to call as top four are very close.

It will interesting to see which is the best 2008 handgun

I voted Ruger because my P-95 keeps stacking up against EVERY thing else. I buy a handgun like I buy any other tool. I can carry only one at a time, so I have only one, and feel no need for any more. Unlike the Glock, the case head is fully supported, so I can load hot. Unlike the CZ, the slide comes to full recoil against the frame, so my thru pin doesn't take a beating. Unlike many others that I have shot against in casual matches, I can hit what needs gettin' hit.
I don't care what you paid for it, or who says what about it; there is nothing else a pistol is gonna' do for you.

Best?

"which handgun has been most popular in 2008."
That's not the same as "best". Just take a look at the Judge....popular but "best"?
In any case, best for what purpose?
I voted for the new Walther target SSP (2008 is at least when I became aware of it). Most of my shooting - 99%- is target competition.
The Walther is on the wish list.

As big a Sig Sauer fanboy as I am, I'd have to give the nod to S&W for the M&P Line. I never thought I'd find a gun that could compete with my beloved Sigs, but my two M&Ps are among my favorites. Accurate, feel great to shoot, well built.

I don't own any H&Ks, only shot two. I think they make a quality firearm, but not the best of 2008. I think the USPs are just too darn big. I like the P2000 and P2000sk, and the P30 looks interesting, but not earth shattering. They are all too expensive and the company itself has a reputation for apathy towards it's civilian customers. For those reasons, I rank HK much lower.

I think Sig Sauer has lost focus and direction. The Sig P series IMHO were about as near to perfection as one gets, but now Sig is putting beaver tails where they aren't needed and making pimp guns. The P250 is just a non starter for me.

The HK45 and HK P30 are hands down some of the finest handguns to hit the shelves recently. I am also a big fan of Sig Sauer. The Sig P226 X-Five looks very promising.

I know that it always comes down to whatever the shooter is most comfortable with. If you shoot a gun accurately and it doesn't fail you then that is the best gun (For you).

I am simply stating what handguns I believe were the best made recently.

HK45

The fact that folks dont buy HKs due to its price skews the polls. Otherwise, I am really not sure what 9mm beats P30 and what 45 beats the HK45.

Walther and Taurus

Why is it that Walther and Taurus have about the same number of votes?

P99 has certainly been a successfull product for Walther this year. I dont see what Taurus has done....should not have even palced it on the POLL!
