Firepower!

For many of us the preference keep changing and we like different things at different time. We sometimes get excited and buy a handgun, but after using it extensively, we realize that it's not what we really want in a handgun.

That said, I would like to know which pistol do consider that should be given the best handgun 2008 award, if there was such an award, and why?

This is just for fun and to see which handgun has been most popular in 2008.

If your choice is not listed please mention it in the heading of your post and we can count it in at the end, if it's significant in number.

I am the first!

And I put Korth down as my choice. Anyone who has ever handled one knows that these are like gravy. I can buy and sell just about any firearm as long as it isn't super rare but I have had a Korth on my list for quite some time. Now I just need to find one.

I picked Sig Sauer for the new p250c, it's completely interchangable as far as caliber, grip size, barrel length/slide length. And the trigger is the best DAO trigger I have ever handled, not to mention the superb night sights. My Sig gets my vote due to superior fit and finish.

Vague

The question is too vague. What do you mean by best handgun? Everyone has their own definition of what is best. Also all of these companies make different types of handguns for different applications. One gun is better in one application, but the other is better in another role. It would be hard to compare them if the guns have completely different attributes.

Another vote for Ruger. You seem to have been homing in on defense type handguns.

Rugers are reliable, fairly priced, accurate, rugged, and they have good after-sale support.

There are those that are more accurate & elegant but none that are more reliable. In the USA at least, it is the best bang for the buck.

Consider it a bonus that they also make excellent hunting revolvers & plinkers too.

Are you talking about which company released the best handguns in 2008? I would give that one to S&W. Say what you will about the company and there politics but nobody has the varity and selection you get. Not to mention quailty and good customer service. Ruger put out the LCP which sold like post 9/11 duct tape so they get some kind of mention. sig dropped the 250 but i ended there. A gun that you can swtich the frame on, if you can find any of them. They said august, it is now september, wheres the sub-compact we hear so much about? I saw Korth on there and I thought that was a bit strange considering I've never seen a korth nor heard of korth offering anything besides one semi auto and two choices of revolvers. So to sum it up, i voted for S&W.

I don't own one, and mostly everyone knows I'm an HK man myself, but I really think and S&W hit the nail on the head with the M&P, and I give them my props for one of the newer handguns. I recently got my friend into firearms, and he went with me to buy my USP and after a few hours he picked out the M&P for himself. It was cheap, and runs flawless, and comfortable for his larger hands, and I can change the grip size down to a size that fits me as well. It has been flawless and it really is very great to shoot. The trigger leaves a little to desire but I would rather it over a Glock, until Glock maybe makes interchangeable grips.

I think 08 belonged to HK.

Glock didn't put out anyhting "new", and a lot of companies followed suit. Sig put out the P250, but it has had only mediocre response, Ruger had a hit with the LCP, but still not the impact that HK made this year.

Springfield released the awesome new XDm, but the poor trigger kept many from buying one, so it fell short of the perfection many expected. The EMP was the end of 07, so that can't make it into this poll.

So for the mind-altering P30 and the highly praised HK45... HK gets my vote. No other brand new designs have garnered as much praise or attention as these two this past year.

Best handgun maker or model?

In my experience for 2008, the best handgun I've bought is my Springfield TRP 1911. I certainly wouldn't state that Springfield is the best gun maker out there, but the TRP is my favorite handgun and I certainly value it over my S&W's, Glock and Rugers.
