$ 19.00 for 9mm

Ammo Sales

Agree with the comments about basic economics 101: it is all about supply and demand. As long as idiots keep buying standard sizes at inflated prices (AKA: hoarding) someone is getting rich (and having some good laughs!) Here in northern part of Virginia, it is difficult to find 9mm, 38 special, 380, 45 acp and 22. However, I did find some 9mm Blazer Brass at WalMart the other day for under $10 per box of 50. Dick's was completely out of all handgun ammunition.

Our WallyWOrld has a sign on the ammo case "In an effort to service our customers equally, ammo purchases limited to 6 boxes per person". The guy says he gets 9mm & 45acp in at least once a week, be there early in the morning to get some. Last week they had 16 boxes of Blazer Brass in 45 & 4 boxes of 100 in Remington. I bought one box of Remmies & 5 boxes of Blazer, just cuz I could :P

I've always picked up a box or few of any caliber that I own a gun for when it's on sale, so there's been no "panic" here ;) Before we went on vacation this year I decided that the big plastic foot locker/ammo storage bin didn't meet my standards for security so I built a very heavy duty locking box & bolted it down in the corner of the closet. I kept an inventory list as I moved the ammo to it's new location & was surprised that I have over $3,000 worth of the stuff amassed (at old prices). When I got home and started seeing the inflated prices I figger I have about $5,000 worth of the stuff on hand. Do they sell stock in ammo on Wall Street? Seems like the only good investment I have :D

Cut out panic buying, shelves fill up & prices come down.

Oh yeah, post #900- Woohoo :)

I told the guy i'd take a box (50) of the 45auto. He scanned them and BANG $29.95.. What!!!! I told him to put them back i wasn't paying that for 50 rounds of target ammo..

what you where looking @ was WWB JHP in .45 auto.

rarer than hens teeth and secong only to the mythical .380 auto rounds.

you should have bought them. i saw a box the other day but passed because:

A. i do not own a .45

B. i am not a speculator, profiteer or hoarder.

:D

Just got back from a large auction here in Douglas County, had some guns for sale, less than 25,so no background check or FFL needed, also had some ammo...

NIB Glock 23 sold for $575

Used Taurus Millenium (non-Pro) went for $475

SKS,(unsure of origin,good condition,sold for $350

14 boxes(20 rounds each) of 7.62X39,various mfr,sold for $22.50/box

And finally,the real jaw-dropper...

1050 rds,(1 sealed case+ 1 full box) of Blazer Brass 115gr 9mm FMJ...

Get this.....

$27.50/box,that is plus 10% buyers premium, bringing the cost to $30.25 a box of 50.It all sold as 1 item,so that means the guy paid $635.25 for 1050 rds of FMJ 9mm...

I apologize to him in case he reads this, but that proves beyond any doubt,at least to me,that there truly are people out there that have more money than brains...

yeah

I live in WI. Walmart is one of 3 places to get ammo... almost everything for pistol calibers are completely gone. I think one 50 WWBox of .40S&W is left. .223 its gone along with .308. .22lr bulk is gone. luckly i bought several 333 Winchester boxes for nine bucks while they were still there. now a box of .22lr remington Thunderbolts is going for 3.17! i almost collapsed!

Dunhams is the only other place with ammo in and they have gouged the hell out of it. i was insulted and will NEVER purchase ANYTHING from them again. 2 50 boxes of 9mm Remington target... $50 plus dollars... I looked them and said that was Bull**** and walked out.

Surprise! Found some 9mm at Wallyworld

I walked into WalMart shopping for some targets and looked over the counter and saw a few boxes of 9mm. 100 round Winchester bulk ammo for $19.95 per box, so I bought 6 boxes since this is the first time in months I have found any ammo. Now I have 600 rounds and can't wait to run a few rounds through my new 9mm gun!

Found 9mm, 45, and {{{{{{ 380 fmj }}}}}} all on the same day. Of course I went through seven stores. One Dicks had 45 and the other had 380 (haven't seen any of that this year) and Gander had 9 mm. Went back a day later and it was back to Mother Hubbard's cupboard for all of them. Three different Wallyworlds were MIA, as was Bass Pro. BTW, all the ammo was Remington UMC and all had regular pricing (nothing like the bull crap bend me over prices I saw at a gunshow this past weekend). Gotta tell you, it sure felt good paying $19 for 45 cal, $13 for 9mm, and $17 for 380. My local range wanted $26 per box of 45 and you had a limit of one.

The ammo shortage seems to be easing up some. I went back to the two Dicks stores I frequent. Both had 9mm (Remington) @ $14.99. Then tried the two Wallyworlds that had nothing yesterday. One had 9mm Blazer Brass at (either $7.99 or $8.99), a real good price. I now have a very good supply of 9mm and a good supply of 45 -- all within the past week. I can go shooting again. Have some Wolf 45 and 9 on order, but can't wait to pick up a reasonable stock of Fiocchi and S&B. I won't shoot 380 until I can replace each box I shoot up (and not at inflated gunshow prices). For 380, it's like my P-3AT mantra, Carry Much, Shoot Little.

My only worry about this ammo shortage is that the inflated prices will stick around... you know? Like our Dunham's is like we can charge 250% and get away with it so it stays that way...

Without collusion market pressure will drive the prices back down once the current scarcity is no longer an issue.

Think of it like this. When every retailer is once again able to fully stock their shelves with any ammo they order without significant delay, there will be two groups of retailers: those who immediately return to, or whom always maintained, reasonable prices, and those who continue to maintain inflated prices. Consumers (who visit establishments of both sorts) will more often patronize the former. Shops of the forst type will be making less money per unit, but will sell more of them - profit based on quantity. Shops of the second type will be making more money per unit, but will sell fewer (one would hope approaching zero units) - profit based on margin. Shops of type 1 are most profitable in an environment of adequate supply, shops of type 2 are most profitable in an environment of scarcity.

Economics 101 says shops of type 2 will see the light or get boned badly when supply once again meets or exceeds demand.

Of course, this is all in the absence of outside influence. If retailers collude to keep prices artificially elevated, or consumers are forced/tend for external reasons to patronize type-2 shops, prices will remain elevated. Thankfully, there are factors such as online retailers and major chains with fixed pricing (Walmart, I'm looking at you here...) which will make this a. Regional issue barring external factors on a massive scale (collusion between distributors, manufacturers, etc).

In other words, as soon as the panic-buying stops the market will begin to return to normal. It will not be overnight, but it will happen, and fairly quickly - noticeable change will occur within a few months.

So, please, be part of the solution, not the problem. Buy what you need, leave the rest for someone else. Especially if you're already sitting on a stockpile!

Won't as long as Walmart keeps selling it cheap.

Last week talked with a gun shop owner that bragged about having bought 14 boxes of 9mm at a local dept store for $9.99 a box. He resells them for $21.95.

Last Saturday, I bought two boxes of 9mm for $10.97 ea at Walmart. The local pawn shop sends his buds down to buy at Wmart since they have a two box limit. He then sells them for $20

Bought 500 pistol primers today from local dept store, $2.90 per 100. Local gun shop offered me primers at $8.00 per 100 a coupla months ago.

Guess where I will keep shopping. Guess whose doors I won't darken again.

Folks, remember who is screwing you. And tell them you will remember! And do business with the folks that do business right!

Interesting. It seems I can always, before and after the scare, get ammunition at better prices and one or two of my favorite shops than at Wal-Mart. Availability was also better. But I did run into one or two places that had raised their prices more significantly. Obviously, I didn't buy from them.

Remember, unless you totally disbelieve in capitalism, that prices are driven by supply and demand. Recently, supply has been down and demand has been up. Guess what? That means higher prices, no matter what commodity you're talking about. I don't like it, but that's the way it works. Fortunately, we don't have all of the Government control that could in theory be there on Ammo price controls, and I'm glad that sellers are able to name their prices. I think the ones who have chosen to help out the customers will be remembered, and that was probably a good economic (as well as fraternal) choice.

What is he supposed to sell them at?

He spent time and gas to get them, and he does have overhead. He also needs to be stocked for his costumers that come in demanding ammo. Is he supposed to send them to Walmart?

At the same time he might have paid tax's too when buying from Walmart, as to keep under rap's.

Some bar's/tavern's do that.

That's about what retailer marks up there products. So even if he paid $15, he would have to charge $30+.

TBS, he should have kept his mouth shut.

If your paying more for Blazer Brass check to see if is their brass brand other than the aluminum that they normally make.
I payed 7.39(9m) and 12.29(40c) in Delaware and North Carolina. Both at WalleyWorld. Could not find (45cal) in North Carolina. Remington (45c) at Dicks is 19.99 in Delaware. WallyWorld in Delaware has hardly had any 45c for the past two month..
Gun Ranges in Georgia buy at WallyWorld and charge range prices too.

The demand is currently difficult to be meet due to the small number of factories in America cant' afford to pay for more man hours or expansions and their production is based on contracts. The current economy won't loan no money to build anymore so we stuck right now.

475.00 for used Taurus Millenium kinda high. Payed 325.00 for new Taurus Millenium Pro two years ago.
