$ 19.00 for 9mm

There's plenty of 9mm ammo out there. I did a basic search of some of my normal vendors I buy from, and they have various manufacturers of 9mm in the $13-$15 per box/50 range. If you bout say 10 boxes, even with shipping it would be around $15-$17 a box depending on the brand. Isn't hard to do a little search. If buying locally is what you want, then just wait it out.

My golf clubs cost $1250
18 holes will run me $120+ after drinks, a new sleeve of balls, etc

I have no problem for paying market price to continue a hobby....

But I suggest that everyone else stops buying ammo immediately.... It would help me out immensely.

Hard to beet that blaser ammo when it around to find. My general store has allways been good enought to let you see his invoice priceing on the computer, He hates the priceing as much as we do. I have been almost out of 9mm for a while so atleast i have some ammo for range time for the next 4 or 5 weeks.

Shoot shotguns, 22`s, black powder, airsoft or even crossbow`s till the price comes down. Just don`t buy overpriced ammo then complain about it. Let it set on the store shelf.

I went to my local Wal-Mart and to my disbelief there on the shelf sat 2 -50 round boxes of WWB 230gr target ammo. And 2 boxes of 40 S&W 100 round boxes. I told the guy i'd take a box (50) of the 45auto. He scanned them and BANG $29.95.. What!!!! I told him to put them back i wasn't paying that for 50 rounds of target ammo..I bought a box (100) of the 40S&W for the same price $29.95.. Evidently the Wal Mart here is getting in on the gouging. This does suck!!
Pretty sure those were 100 round boxes. Doubt Walmart sells 50 round boxes of WWB (which I've never seen there) and 100 round boxes for the same price. Local range here wanted $22 per box of 50.

It is getting scary expensive out there

Ha- I have you all beat 9MM and 40SW I can find. 22lr has just plain disappeared; Wal-Marts, I have checked several, and other sporting goods stores have none. I spoke with a couple yesterday and they have not seen any in weeks. I called a local dealer and he had a couple of bricks on the shelf; I wasted no time in getting there to be sure! The man behind the counter sets the brick of 22lr in front of me and says that will be 100.00. I of course laughed and asked how much really. He replied that yes indeed they wanted 100.00. Needless to say I left the shop and my wife and I agree that we will not be patronizing that establishment again!
I agree that the merchant should be allowed to charge what the market will bear; however, I certainly have the right to hold him accountable for his decisions. I will be happy to share this story with all my aquaintences.

In my area the 22lr is starting to be harder to find. I never bought it by the brick. I would usually pick up 100rds every week whether I shot some or not. I haven't seen any 45acp is quite a while. You can find some 9mm or 40 cal every few weeks. I want some 40 and passed on some fiocchi. I think I may have made a mistake. I think a guy has to shoot whatever he can find now a days.

remember these dealers. Then, when the ammo scare and price gouging is over; and YES IT WILL END; remember to NEVER buy from these people again.

If I do that I'll never buy from any of my local stores and dealers. paid 18 and 20 bucks for FMJ yesterday at our local gun show.

Walmart near me has lots of 40. I scored 250 rounds of 9mm there about 2 weeks ago, they had more but I wasn't being greedy. 45 is just really hard to find. I got 50 rounds at the Bass Pro shop a few days ago. The guy working there told me they were getting some the day before. By the time I got off work, they had one box left. Remington 45 at $22. Guess I was lucky to get that one box. Wish I had a 40 cause it's plentiful around here.

ritepath; you can see what the fair prices are. Hell, just do an online search. We know that some of the wholesale prices have gone up. That's understandable. And it's understandable that the local merchant has to raise the price a little. You bought ammo at $18-$20 at a gun show. Well DUH, gun shows are probably the HIGHEST place to buy ammunition right now. Where do you think all those people who bought all the Wal-Mart stash is selling it.

If your local retailers are selling 9mm for $20, then they are rapists. Please don't use gun shows as an example. I expect local shops to be a little more than ordering online. They aren't buying in the same bulk, plus they have shipping costs and need to make a profit. But when you can see a difference of some online/retail shops selling at $16-$20 and others; like cheaperthandirt, ammunitiontogo, and others selling at $29-$49; then there's a difference.

But also to reiterate. Gun shows are a great place to buy guns and gear. And under NORMAL conditions, they are a great place to buy ammo in bulk or hard to find calibers. But you should not be buying ammo at a gun show now. However, $18-$20 is pushing the limit of an acceptable price. Of all the calibers, 9mm is the most international caliber. There are still many places online to sell 9mm in decent prices if you don't mind over seas manufacturers or buying in bulk. If you do mind that, then you're missing out on the main advantages of having a 9mm.

I'm not sure I'd blame the local shops for running up the prices. While I don't normally deal in ammo, I do have wholesale accounts with two large distributors who sell ammo. The wholesale prices have gone up dramatically, so if the ammo manufacturers haven't actually increased their prices, perhaps it is the distributors doing the price inflating rather than small dealers.

Then how is it Wal Mart and a few other honest dealers can still sell ammo at the old prices. I just bought .40 cal WWB 50 rounds for $11.95 at Wal Mart, thats about 10% above the pre Obama days. One of the very large sporting goods store in Palm Beach Gardens was asking $29.95 for the same WWB or 250% mark up over Wal Mart. I have a brother in Mississippi that gets his target ammo at about the same price we pay at our Wal Marts.

Yes, I will do with out the high priced ammo for now. I will never again buy from the dealers that are ripping us off now.

just spent $150 for 500 rds of FMJ 9mm .. total price, so $15 per 50 ... too much, of course, but now I can practice for the next few months ... haven't been able to find .45 for about two months ...

Nothing wrong with $15 a box of 50. Chuck, the reason Walmart is and has always been cheaper is their buying power. How many stores are they buying for??? They are buying literally MILLIONS of rounds. And they are probably buying it directly from the manufacturer via a distributor. Where as mom and pop is buying from distributors but at the rate of a few thousand rounds. Plus, walmart probably has some long standing contracts. Even Dicks, Sports Authority, and some other retail sporting goods stores don't buy at the quantity that Walmart does.

But you are correct at that they are selling at their normal prices. The mom and pops are probably getting jacked up a little bit, but not much. Prices here are higher, but not that much. For plinking ammo, $20 for 45acp. $18 for 38/357. $16-$18 for 9mm/40sw. $20 for 32/380. Yes, it's a couple of dollars more than say 6-12 months ago. But it's not high enough to be mom and pop gouging. It's probably just the price going up by the distributors.

Last night I went to my local range and even though I went with my own ammo, I thought that I'd pick-up an extra box while I was there to replace the one that I was going to use. Didn't happen. Last time I bought 9mm (Speer Lawman 124gr) there, I paid $11 a box - this was just 3 weeks ago. They only had Remington Green Box 9mm ammo and were selling it for $20 a box with a limit of one. The guy told me that they've resorted to going to other local shops to buy the ammo and were only marking it up by $1. He also mentioned that they've been told by their supplier that it may be 9 months before they're able to start sending their regular Speer shipments again.

Looks like I'm going to keep trying my local Wal Marts on the way home for WWB or Blazer Brass.

How can you condemn the retailers' prices when you do not know what they are paying to their wholesaler, and therefore do not know what their profit margin is?

You may assume, but that is making judgments without fact.

Well I know a local shop here has 9mm WWB 100 rounds for $41.95. I hadn't been able to find any at the local Walmart until last week and they had the same stuff for $20.49. I'm pretty sure I know where that local shop was getting their WWB and what they paid for it before doubling the price. I know I'd never buy it for that price and if/when the prices do drop, I know I won't ever buy it from them then either.
