Your thoughts on Firearm Registration

Okay, I over reacted and I take it back, but it's not the first time I have struck this on forums such as this and it wears thin over time.

Unfortunately, this discussion appears to have degenerated into a childish screaming match, sad though that seems. I will however try to make a point once more, and then I'm through.

Many people, myself included are opposed to registration because it leads to confiscation. I'm not talking about what might have happened in some Banana Republic, I make reference to what has happened in this country, as with California, N.Y.C., N.J. to mention just three places that come immediately to mind.

Also, in case registration advocates hadn't noticed, it is only the law abiding who would comply, for criminals tend to disobey the law. that's why they are criminals, and that is why they will ALWAYS be armed, should they so choose.

Additionally, that bit about "you register your car, why object to registering your gun(s)" is completely specious. First place, nobody has proposed confiscastion of cars, which cannot be said respecting guns. Also, the registration of cars is a revenue raising device, nobody ever claimed auto registration would combat, in any way at all, crime or criminal acts.

Finally, as it is sometimes offered, "they only want to know ...". Who in blazes are this ubiquitous "they" in the first place, and by what authority do they desire to "know" that which they seek, and for what purpose this information? If it turns out that "they" are the police, why aren't "they" doing their job, which might be described as chasing real criminals, rather than bothering the law abiding, even allowing that it is a lot easier to undertake the latter than it is to do the former.

In short, I, and countless others are and will always be oppopsed to gun registration, in any imaginable guise, because it's a bad idea, worse than that, it's a criminally stupid idea. Should anything above notred require clarification, give me a shout, I might try to offer such clarification as was needed, to whomever needed it, maybe.

Lord! After wading through so many pages of this thread I've come to the conclusion that yet again free thinking individuals and authoritarians will not be able to agree. So it seems clear that the only way to assure freedom for us all is for those who cherish liberty to be ever vigilant.

Registration is a one way road as far as I am concerned......with citizens not becoming safer.

Just say no...loudly

Gun Registration - Reply To 3 posts

Geeez, guys, I go away for half a day and you all get nuts!

CULCUNE: about the Assault Pistols registration thing. Should stand a shining example of what can and HAS happened right here right now, in the land of the 2nd amendment. There is no loophole. Someone who owns a banned assualt pistol in Maryland cannot sell it, cannot give it away and cannot remove it from Maryland for the purpose of an "illegal interstate transfer" You have absolutely no way to get rid of one of rhese puppies except to will it to someone on your death, or TURN IT OVER THE THE STATE FOR DESTRUCTION.

Now how long do you think it would take the same crafty lads who wrote this law and got it passed, to use it as a "precedent" to make the same rule apply to the next scary gun or sniper rifle or whatever? There has been paper floating in Maryland for years that would classify all scoped hunting rifles as "sniper rifles" to be banned in favor of shotguns for hunting, and only the strong NRA presence here has kept that from getting into the legislature for serious consideration.

BLACKMIND: About my alma mater JHU, mostly its the medical school pushing that "guns as medical health risks" claptrap. Those of us on the engineering side have always thought they were all rich pansies over there anyway...NO! NO! NO! NOT an anti-gay remark, just saying rich pansies by way of too much cash and no damned balls or ability to think like adults. Lets call them weak minded elitists and let it go at that. Same problem in all Ivy League schools the last 20 years or so, elitist draft dodgers running the show, brainwashing all the incoming rich kids to their 60's radical mindset. That's why all the new protest chants seem to be just rewordings of "Hell no we won't go" Or my personal favorite one, that greeted me on DEROSing back to Baltimore - " Hi, Hi, F-ing GI! How many did you kill, and why?"
Always liked that one, still remember it to this day, and the little skinny b******* preppy spitting it in my face. Cherished war-hero memories, right?

HIPOWER22: Did you never see a sarcastic remark in 3rd person written down anywhere before? Ever read, like, a novel? The remark about Aussies being descended from prisoners was, I THOUGHT, as obvious as possible an example of what would be said by the type of weak minded simpleton who would be in favor of gun registration. Guess you figured that simpleton was me. Next time I'll bracket something like that and footnote it for you, so you won't get your biballs in a knot. SARCASM WILL OCCUR BETWEEN THESE MARKERS....DO NOT KNOT YOUR BIBALLS..... THANK YOU!

I thought it was especially funny from my point of view, since there's always been a suspicion that our family's first American ancestors got to the boats coming here from Scotland and Wales just a step or two ahead of the police back there........ hehehehe. 'Course that little historical grey area didn't stop us from being represented by at least one family member in every war this country ever fought since around 1789, so hopefully we'll be allowed to stay awhile, yet.

Anyway, as a couple folks pointed out, this thread seems to have turned a bit ugly here lately. Hope I didn't give it the first push that took you all over the cliff. I was just hoping to point out that any and all and every bit of gun registration and legislation and regulation will always lead to more of the same, so each and every step in that direction must be fought as though it is the LAST step, not the first. REMEMBER, the last two governments who successfully registered all civilian firearms were controlled by two really lovely guys, Mr. Joseph Stalin and Mr. Adolf Hitler, each of whom turned registration into confiscation within five years of getting everyone's name on their lists......... And then they killed everybody.

No need to apologize for Hopkins. One of my Alma Maters, too.
Class of 81, Masters in Public Heath.
Liberal? Yes. Thought provoking? Absolutely.

Those who attended without mind, graduated mindless.
The rest of us graduated better educated to LEARN. Johns Hopkins did that pretty damned well.

You really got me there. I moved from The People's Republic of Feinstein, which I thought was bad, to Arizona (which I have found to be very good). A few years ago with the Cali. ban, one of the loopholes (and in order to get rid of guns from the mean streets of the suburbs) was that your "dangerous weapon" could be removed from the state. Maryland doesn't even allow this!!? If you want, when you get a midnight call from your police department asking "...it's midnight, do you know where your (weapon) is..." you can forward the call to me, and I will tell them where it isn't, using filthy, four letter words. Just thought I would blow off some steam (for you)...
