Your First Handgun & Do You Still Have It?

Mine first was a 4" S&W mod 19 and I still have it. My father bought it new in 1967 to use as his service revolver after his Mod 10 was stolen in a house burglary. When I was 16, in 1973, he gave it to me when he decided to go with the Mod 66.

Colt Model N, 1908, .25ACP, vest pocket, hammerless automatic. Beautiful blueing, mother of pearl grips, gold trigger, safety, and mag plate. Given to me by my grandfather in 1974. Engraved with his name along the RH side of the barrel. He bought it new in 1919.

You better believe I still have it.

Take the long way home...

Yes I do
Phoenix Arms HP-22 bought new in 1995 for 99.95.

And if you hear from my Louise, won't you tell her I love her so?

1st. A baby Browning in .25 ACP. Traded something - I forget what - to a schoolmate for it. My grandmother made me trade back.

Ah, the late 40's, early 50s when such things were controled by parents and guardians - not Zero Tolerance School Zone policies.

No, unfortunately, I don't. It was a 70 Series .45 Colt Combat Commander in Satin Nickle. It was stolen in 1983 out of my car while I was in a nightclub in Houston. But, I still have the pistol that replaced it! An 80 Series Colt Combat Government. I carried that piece for 9 years until it was replaced as my primary pistol with a Glock 19.

Polish Vis-35 Radom, Nazi made. Decent condition.

Purchased for me by my father with my money many many moons ago. $125.

Yep, I've still got it, and I was shooting it over Memorial Day weekend. A friend of mine adores it.

Beware the man with the S&W .357 Mag.
Chances are he knows how to use it.

=( My first was a Colt CCO. I sold it and got a Defender. ANd I hate myself for it. Oh I love the Defender don't get me wrong. But Have you see colt prices. I got 450 for the gun I could get 700+ for it now. It was the EARLY model. Before it was really a CCO heheh and was it a shooter.

My very first pistol was a sawed off Hamilton .22 rifle with a homemade pistol grip. Yes, it was legal then (1940 something) No, I don't have it. Highly illegal now.

A J.P. Sauer and Son Colt Peacemaker copy in .22lr with a .22 mag cylinder that I sold many years ago. First center fire was a Smith M&P british army issue victory model, my brother still has it,he got it out of me about 20 years ago. It still works like a timex.

Ruger Super Blackhawk .44 Magnum. I was about 16 I think (back in the mid 1970s). I shot a friend's, and when I realized that the recoil wasn't as devastating as I'd expected, I had to have one. I thought I could hunt deer with it (found out later it was illegal in California). I'm sure the Clint Eastwood movies added to the appeal.

I still have it. I don't shoot it much. It kicks too much and has a heavy trigger. I never could hit much with it.

I also have a Herters .22 single action that my dad mailordered back in the 60s. It still works fine (although it is a little loose and I had to replace a broken ejector rod years ago). I think it cost him about $26 new.

Colt 1911 .45 ( Military Production made in 1914 Ser. # 668xx) I got it from my grandfather, who as an Electrician was rewiring a house. He found it under the house in a military holster and web belt.
Since nobody knew where it came from, he claimed it... That was back in the 40`s after the war.
Due to sitting in the holster ( for many years probably )it does have some pitting on the slide and frame, but it has been inspected and is still 100 percent functional and only cosmetically hurt.
Due to pitting and cold rebluing to some worn areas, it was appraised at only about half of its real value.
It was the first gun I ever shot.
My grandfather took me out shooting with it many times on his ranch as a kid, and I`ve shot it many, many times since I`ve owned it.
I don`t shoot it anymore due to sentimental reasons. I do own 2 other Colt .45 autos though that give me much enjoyment...
And yes, I still own it, and it sits on display on a special stand I made for it in the back of my gunsafe.
My grandfather passed a few years ago, and I still fondly remember him every time I see it, he was a wonderful man, and it is a wonderful gun...

Ruger Blackhawk single action in .357 mag. Purchased in 1977 and still in my possesion. Will always remain there. You're right with that 'love affair' of that first pistol.

My first gun was a Winchester single shot 22 rifle, can't remember the model #, that had been my dad's. I really liked that gun.

S&W Model 39 9mm bought the day I turned 21 and was "legal" (had to hide it in my dorm room). As a matter-of-fact, I owned a handgun before I owned a car. I still have it in the safe.

H&R 9 shot, top-break .22. I think it was a Model 929. Solid, not ribbed, bbl. I learned how to point a pistol with it at age 16, think it was sold a year or two later. If I ever seen another one, I'll buy it for old times sake.

Yes i still have my First Handgun. (actually i must believe only in BUYING firearms, have yet to sell/trade one.

Right after we bought our house a friend mentioned maybe selling his .357 6 1/2 ported Taurus revolver.

My reply "SOLD!!!"
His next words, (or nearly)

"Umm, can i talk to your wife first????"

She said yes, yes he can buy it...

Brought to the new house.... Perfect? well no. i don't understand why it won't ALWAYS fire DA but will SA. Don't use it much, so at the range SA is fine.

Now i just have to get the wife to shoot it.

I keep it warm for her... Someday.
