With Nosler Partitions or A-Frames, I could see Moose with a .25-06, giving very careful shot placement in the hands of a good rifleman.

So far, 7.5x55mm (7.5Swiss) and .308 killed almost everything very
dead down here, from deer to wild boars. However, I prefer the .300
Win Mag since it allows me to shoot at longer distances and the
greater speed will probably incapacitate the prey much faster.

Oh Lord! _Choices!_:eek:

I own and hunt with: .243Win
6.5X55 Swede
30/06
I'd be hard pressed to choose one over the other 2, but from my records, the 30/06 has been responsible for more 'meat in the freezer' than the other 2 combined.
The 06 is a BSA featherweight, the .243 is an old Ruger M77, the Swedw is a sporterized Mod 1938/96 Husquvarna.

The trusty .30-30 is my favorite. :D More specifically, the Remington Core-Lokt 170 grain HP. There is no question the deer know they've been shot. Beyond 150 yards, the .308 is the way to go for me. But since I've never shot at a deer that far away, I'll stick with the .30-30.

All these mentions of .25 cal rifles and no mention of the .257 Weatherby----With 100 gn factory loads we clocked mine at 3700 fps on my buddy's chrono and I get .5 inch groups----just point and shoot

300 Savage in a Model 99. Up here in Michigan, it can take care of just about anything you would want to hunt.

No crud, huh. .50BMG is boss. Damm, the penetration of the .50 is impressive. But no fun for deer. I wonder if someone has used .50BMG for elephant.
