If $$ was no object, what would you be your rifle of choice?

Mine?

Mcmillan Tac-308 or Tac-338
w/ a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 w/ the Tac-308 or a Nightforce NXS 12-42x56 for the Tac-338

.308 for some serious long range hunting, .338 for some good 1500-2k yard target shooting.

Mine would be some nasty sniper system. Maybe one of the new Remington MSR's (Modular Sniper Rifle)in 7.62 NATO/.308 decked out.

You know, for varmints and coyotes and whatnot.

Probably some flavor of Nightforce optics.

Something a little more realistic would be a full Larue Tactical AR build in 5.56 NATO/.223, but you did say DREAM RIFLE.

EDIT: I initially had the MSR rifle chambered in .338 LAP MAG but in re-thinking it I am still going to have to buy ammo for this dream rifle given to me. So I switched to something I could afford to shoot. Wouldn't be any fun if it sat in the safe!

My "dream rifle" would be one of my own hand made doubles, but I'd have to find someone to pay all my bills for about 5-6 months so I could build one of my very best and then be able to keep it.
It's sad, but I can't afford my own work.
Such rifles take too long to make and there is no money to live on if I keep the work.

You guys are gonna chuckle,,,

But I am a huge lover of break-open single-shot rifles,,,
I would opt for a Ruger No. 1 rifle,,,
Or something similar.

When I was a kid we had a neighbor,,,
Who owned one of every rifle, pistol, and shotgun ever made,,,
At least it seemed like that to me as he had more guns than any gun store.

This man was a retired oil executive and had tons of money,,,
His gun room was bigger than our entire house.
He had been on many safari's in Africa,,,
With the trophy to verify his hunts.

Anyways, for some reason he liked my Dad and tolerated me,,,
I could look at and handle any gun he had as long as I cleaned it after,,,
There was one rifle he owned that I always wanted to hold when I visited him.

It was a break-open single shot rifle in some big game caliber,,,
He took me out to shoot it one time and 3 (?) rounds was all I wanted,,,
But I never forgot the experience of that rifle and would love to have a similar one.

So I think the Ruger No. 1 International in 30-06 would be my choice,,,
Or maybe a Varminter in .223 would make me just as happy.

Of course I would trick it out with an awesome scope.

I don't hunt any more so this would just be a range shooter,,,
But what a trip it would be to go to my Rifle & Pistol club with one of those awesome rifles.

Aarond

P.S. I forgot to mention that I own two H&R single-shot rifles,,,
They are not as elegant as the Ruger No. 1,,,
But they are solid performers,,,
And fun as all get-out.

Winchester Model 92 with Octagon barrel 1/2 mag takedown, #9 engraving. This would be a replacement for one my father had built in the 80's.

Or

Winchester Model 86 1/2 mag takedown in .33WCF Another replacement for one of my father's guns

or

Winchester Model 70 Varmint in .225 Winchester. A replacement for a stolen rifle. I know ammo is almost impossible to find locally but once I've got brass I'll never run out of ammo, besides the one I had was a tackdriver.

One with a good story of historic relevance whether it's famous or notorious...like George Washington's musket, Sitting Bull's Lever action or even Lee Harvey Oswald's Carcano.

The Browning BAR that was with Bonnie and Clyde when they were gunned down! Or a super nice Remmington Hepburn in 38-55 with half round, half octo.bbl. Or...oh I don't know how to pick just one.
