No, I prefer them in their current layout. I don't believe that a manual safety would make the gun any "safer" than their current design.

Manual safety on glock

I got rid of all my carry guns and bought glocks only.. Beautiful
Design as they are in my opinion. You need a good holster, kydex or
Good leather no junk

The only handgun I would ever own with a safety is a 1911. If I buy a Beretta 92, it's getting a Type G conversion. Everything else will be decock only or striker fired with no safeties.

Nope. It doesn't need a safety. Lame sayings such as "keep your booger hook off the bang switch" and "my safety is between my ears" ring true to me. One of my three normal carry guns has a safety that I wish it didn't have and would remove it if possible. I like that gun so much I am able to see past the trigger. Not as easy to do with a Glock.

No, if the ONLY change was a thumb safety.

To meet my standards a Glock needs MORE than just a manual safety to be acceptable to me.

I'm indifferent towards the Glock trigger. I probably wouldn't buy one with a manual safety, but I probably wouldn't buy one without a manual safety either.

However, if the thumb-safety model had a 4 lb super-crisp short-reset single-action style trigger, that certainly wouldn't hurt.

Personally, my greatest objection to the Glock is the poor ergonomics. The 2x4 style square-cornered grip is not nice, and the curious and infamous "Glock hump" makes it point high for me.

For carry, I'd specify one of the heavier triggers and let it be a "17 shot DA revolver". I'd prefer not to carry a pistol in a condition that needs a manual safety.

Among striker pistols, I consider Glocks to be reasonably safe as is.

I am presuming that by "manual safety," the OP means a thumb safety, not a grip safety. Based on that, I probably would not buy a Glock with a manual (thumb) safety. Over time, I have moved away from carry guns with thumb safeties.

The only way I would EVER buy a Glock is if it had a manual thumb safety. Coming from a DA revolver background, I think the trigger on the Glock and other striker fired semis is too light to be safe. If a gun has no manual safety, I want it to have a long but smooth first pull like a revolver or a SIG.

Why is it overwhelmingly no? What the heck is wrong with having a safety? You don't have to use it, you don't have to use the trigger locks that come with it, you don't even have to lock your darned doors at night, but taking the locks off the doors?

Briandg I understand why it is overwhelmingly no, although I am one of the few who voted yes. One of the major reasons Glock has been so successful is based on the idea that an external manual safety is not needed with their design, giving It the simplicity of a revolver with the advantages of a semi-automatic. I don't disagree.

I don't own a Glock, but I've shot a bunch of them. If I where a sworn uniformed officer carrying a service weapon on my belt or in the military carrying a handgun, I would be happy to carry a Glock. I'm not, and unless I am carrying a revolver in the woods I carry concealed. That adds another level of complexity that requires either a long DA trigger pull or a thumb safety for me.

There is an aftermarket, "Gadget" safety that enables a person to exert pressure with the thumb to prevent the striker from completing the cocking movement and the trigger being pulled. I think if Glock added this, or a thumb safety as options there are a lot of folks who would consider their handguns.

Glock knows their market. I doubt they will risk offending their base by adding safeties to a proven product.

This thread clearly explains why we will never get beyond nd's. Experts don't need thumb safeties until they have an ND, then they are idiots. When the next ND occurs, that guy gets the idiot crown!

With thumb safeties, would we eliminate ND's or just get to be the idiot for longer?
