Would you be a minute man?

We all are aware of the sometimes contoversial minute man project.

My question to everyone is...

Would you be an armed participant in one of these programs if you lived in the area?

I myself would have to say "yes". I think it would be a win/win situation for someone like me.

The conservative side of me would be glad to be doing what I can to prevent the massive illegal immigration into this country by our friends to the south and the liberal side of me would be able to justify it by saying "I will be able to make sure things are being done without unnecessary abuse and without harrassment of the immigrants".

I live two hours from the border. If I go armed, it is only for one reason, to stop the immigration problem, and not with diplomacy. Which is why I don't go to the border.

Have a great Kenpo day

Me personally? No. But I support the decisions of others to do the same.

I'd prefer to see our immigration policies undergo an overhaul before I'd get excited about border enforcement. Definitely before I'd be willing to pay more for increased border enforcement (which will definitely necessary at some point).

Not looking to debate immigration policy, just stating my reasons for why I wouldn't partake.

But like I said, I fully support those that decide to do so. If you have the time, the ability, and the inclination and it's something you believe in, I say go for it.

If I had the time and money available, I'd be there tomorrow. Have to keep the home-front in order first, then I'll worry more about extending to the southern border as ability permits. I've served my country before, so it only feels right to do it again in a slightly different venue when I can put things in order for it. It's in the plans to spend a month or so down there this fall...

Yes. BTW, the open border lobby always says lets solve the immigration policies before we close the border. Kind of cart before the horse approach.

Provided you agree with increased quotas for legal immigration, doing so is the first logical step in securing the border. Increasing legal options for immigrants means they'll be less likely to take to illegal options. Reduce the flow, and it just makes the border easier to secure.

Granted, this makes the assumption that you have no problem seeing more Latin American immigrants, and that you're merely worried about their legality. Which is a minority opinion on both sides of the aisle.

Alot of people are going to call me a racist (go ahead, I am ready for it) but I am against increased legal immigration.

It has nothing to do with race. For many social and economical reasons I just don't feel this country can maintain an influx of third world or any other immigrants and maintain the standard of living most Americans would like to live.

I am okay with temporary work visas and day worker programs though.

I'm not sure what the exact word I'd use for that line of reasoning is, PBP...it's on the tip of my tongue, but I'm not coming up with it. Anyway, definitely not racist. And while I don't agree I wouldn't say it's unreasonable.

I don't know. I have a feeling that for every person who just wants to protect his country, and proceed in a civil, law-abiding manner, there's some yahoo who's just trigger-happy and looking to kill those darn #$%^*.

I agree...in fact I think it might be more like 2 to 1 on the bad side.

That is why i think I would lik to be involved. Not only to police the boarders but to be able to feel that things are being done fairly.

Why? If we controlled the border, and then hit employers with incredibly stiff penalties then the incentive to come here would disappear.

If it got to the point where people were needed I believe I would. Especially if there were armed conflicts, that would be where a militia would come in handy. (see second amendment)
