would any of you guys here a tfl trust your life to a taurus?

I would, and do. I have an 85 and a PT-908, both are highly reliable. I have used the 908 as a CCW, and use it to shoot IDPA matches.

My wife is a Taurus and yes I trust her with my life.

Actually the only experience with a Taurus that I've had is with the PT 92. Reliability wise it was flawless and it's accuracy was just below what I would like to see in a self defense pistol. In a pinch I'm sure it would have gone bang so I think the pistol was trustworthy, but not the optimal choice.

Yes, most definitely...had a Model 85 "CH" for a while...back before the "hammer lock"...absolutely reliable, but I traded it away when the S&W Model 442 came along. Recently bought a pre-decock PT99 from a fellow at work who's getting "hosed" in a divorce...he claims it never malfunctioned in over 2,000 rounds, and I've not had a M-F in about 200 or so rounds...Lastly, I got ANOTHER Model 85(tho' not the "CH") in a trade recently...no problems with it, either. Oh, yeah...also had a 689(or something like that...) several years ago...no problems with it, either...a guy at work saw it and just "HAD to have it", so...I put it on him-for a tidy profit, OF COURSE!!!....mikey357

I think mikey357 and I are on the same wave length. I carried a Taurus 85CH in stainless for about a year and then switched to a S&W 442 because it is lighter. I still have the Taurus and don't plan to sell it.

Your brother owns the pistol. He is perfectly capable of taking it out, shooting the hell out of it, and making up his own mind if it is reliable enough to stake his life on. It doesn't matter what the guys at the local gun shop think. Odds are that they never even fired one, let alone owned one. You know what they say about opinions...... I once owned a Taurus 92 and have a couple trophies on my loading bench to show for it (from some local "combat" type matches). Assuming your brother puts his Taurus through it's paces and discovers for himself how accurate, reliable etc it is, why the hell would he then buy a Beretta; to make the guys at the gun store happy ?

Yes.
I have had a PT-99 for five years. Many rounds fired no complaints. Not first choice for carry, have others. The PT-99 is a safe to range gyn but fun.

I have had a few MDL 85s. Seems whenever I get one someone in the family needs it more or absconds with it. I keep buying them and rountinely carry a MDL 85 Ultra Lite as a secondary weapon.

Taurus makes fine guns for the money. At least I think so.

Yes, and here's why...

Beretta set up Taurus with the machinery and expertise to build the Taurus pistol. Before Beretta reengineered the safety for DA/Sa on its M92, the slides of the Beretta and Taurus were virtually interchangeable. You could swap them and the guns would still fire. Taurus has since then evolved their own designs and has made a name for itself.

Mind you, I think more highly of Taurus pistols than I do of their revolvers.

After applying the same rules I would for any self defense firearm, yes I would.

I understand there was a batch of problematic model 85s that came out, but other than that, no problems.

Good quality guns at a fair price. And Taurus is showing some real innovation with some of their more recent revolvers in terms of material (titanium), porting, and grip design. Even a simple keyed hammer lock that looks suitable for its intended purpose.

Yes. In the extreme summer heat we have here in the Metroplex, I trust mine with a Taurus M85UL chambered with 38+P Remington G/S. Have a good day.

Actually, I trust my parents' life with an older PT92. Bought it about 8 years ago and never had a single problem with it. I've asked my dad to hold on to it for me "for a while," as my mother would do her best to make his life miserable if he brought a gun into their house.

Would I trust a Taurus with my life?

Semi-autos: not by choice, but I figure that they're a serviceable weapon with the right ammo and as such would probably get the job done.

Revolvers: in a heartbeat, yes. Have you ever looked closely at their revolvers? They look well made, have great finishes, and their timing is flawless. The triggers are stout, but they work every time...

I've had my PT92AF for nearly 15 years now, it always goes bang when I want it to and feeds nearly anything flawlessly. As far as accuracy is concerned, I used to outshoot a buddy of mine who had a Beretta 92(Really got his goat, seeing as he paid nearly 3 times as much for his gun) Not sure if he was just a bad shot with that gun or what. Several friends have Taurus 92s that they like too, good guns, for the most part, I'd buy another.

I have been carrying a Taurus 605CHSS for years as my CCW. I practice with it regularly, with no problems. J. Hall

would any of you guys here a tfl trust your life to a taurus?

I own a PT940, and although I have better (meaning smaller) pistols for carry, I would have no issues with using it for PD.
