Will you CC a gun with 3K rounds through the pipe?

Ive got over 20000 rnds through my Glock an still carry it. I have replaced a few parts over the years an recently rebuilt the whole thing.

Age or round count don't matter very much to me if the firearm is still realiable. I carry my '71 Hi-Power on occasion......no idea how many rounds its had in its 38 years, but it has never malfunctioned for me..........it just goes boom every time and hits where I aim.

All of my PDWs have at least 5k through them. Our FOP lodge has a gun safety day every year with reps from all the brands we carry and they check and do minor repairs on the guns---haven't had a issue in 12 years.

I would only wish that most of my handguns had around 3K through it. The only thing that would worry me with your gun is that you had to replace the recoil spring and guide rod. I never saw one wear out so soon. I had the 4006 stainless which was the first gun I used in IPSC and when I traded the gun it had over 8,000 rounds through it and still had the original spring and guide rod.

That was one of the few gun I wished I had kept.

I have a 1918 production Colt 1911 that got a rebuild in WWII that I'd trust in a heartbeat.

I think CraigC hit the nail on the head with his comment.

My very first handgun purchase was a S&W Model 410. I bought it off a buddy of my pops. He's a pins local champ around here and he used to shoot with it for him comp. I'm sure its had more than 20k rounds through it. I've put at least 5k through it myself. It's a bit big for a carry, but if I was down to that gun for whatever reason. I'd walk around with a smile.

3K

Have bought police trade ins and most were smoother that new. 3K down the pipe is nothing for a Glock. I'd buy one that had 30K and after a good cleaning and inspection would take it work.

A carry should be shot often, not just to test the function of the gun but the function of the person who carries it.

I put another 200 through my SA XD40 SC on Sunday, and that puts it over 2K in the short time I've had it, and the more rounds I put down range the more I trust it, and the more I trust my ability to use it. I think you can trust your S&W.:)

My primary carry has over 3000 rounds through it...

Good, quality guns (not the junk guns, of course) are made for thousands upon thousands of rounds. Clean it often, oil it lightly, and wipe it down. You'd be amazed at just how long guns last.... :D

I think the vast majority of folks DO NOT take care of their guns, which is why you hear of problems after 3-8k rounds. It's a sad thing... I find cleaning and oiling to be relaxing! I genuinely enjoy it, nearly as much as I do reading books or watching football (notice I said NEARLY). :)

I have a 1st generation Glock 17 with a documented 98,769 rounds through her and she's in mint shape. At 31 feet using IMI/SAMSON Match grade ammo she still gives me 2.03" groupings.

I also have a Taurus PT-92 with 73,903 documented rounds through it and Taurus gave it a clean slate. Range accuracy using the same ammo listed above at 31ft was 2.17" groupings.

Both weapons are stock, no modifications. Springs changed Q5K rounds.

I also have a Beretta 92FS that is a Chicago PD trade in with unknown round count, but 31,079 rounds from me and accuracy is 2.35" groupings at 31ft using same ammo listed above.

I also have been using one of my three Norinco 1911's as a test bed for damage. It's had 66,866 rounds through it from every single .45acp manufacturer around and other than routing cleanings and spring changes, it's still going strong, and looks no different than the day I bought her.

I have a total of 78 1911's and 18 Beretta 92fs's plus numerous others many with thousands of rounds and I would NOT hesitate to carry any one of these for concealed carry.

let it earn your trust

I won't CC a gun until I have at least 500 strait rounds of carry ammo perform flawless. The gun and ammo have to earn my trust. Thats for my autos anyway. I drop that to a couple hundred thru my wheel guns. Since I load my ammo the cost isn't as much the issue as buying the factory loads. I have to many customers that buy a new CC gun and one box of shell and carry away. Drives me crazy. I always tell them don't trust it until it earns it. But anyway. It don't matter how many rounds the gun has as long as its reliable. Thats the key. Reliability has no round count. I would trust an old G.I. 1911 that rattles like a bag of hammers more than a factory fresh Kimber. A certain level of wear will keep an auto moving easier. Trust your old S&W after you put some rounds thru it. If it jams fix it and start over. Acts up again find a differant gun.

When I became a Department of the Army Police Officer we were still issued S&W model 64s. When we switched to the Beretta 92FS (M9) we found out how many rounds some of those S&Ws had. They had been microscopicly examined and some had so many rounds that they had microscopic cracks in them, others had anywhere between 20,000 and 40,000 rounds and were fine. That said a 3,000 round gun is just getting started.

Heck, I don't think you should CCW a gun until you have 3000 rounds thru it. That's nothing brother. If all you have is 3000 rounds thru it you need to shoot more.
