Will Charter Arms Ever Actually Manufacture

Master Blaster 2

PT-92 you don't need a Taurus you need to wait for the Charter Arms.

Now don't get me wrong, I consider myself to be a patient man (relatively speaking) but this thing was supposed to be out in 2009...? I will indeed get one if and when the 9 or 45 comes to market (I have no need for the .40) but the 905 intrigues me. Are the (I call them) 'moon-clips' for the 905 reliable?

*In honor of Earth Day I fired up the charcoal grill and made up some tasty beef steaks all complements of the great resources provided by Mother Earth;)!*

I don't own one so I'm sort of waiting for the person who does own one to say something before I respond and say "No"

"No, they're not reliable. They are flimsy, they don't hold the rounds securely in place. They can't be used like a speedloader because the rounds are canted at all different angles and therefore you are basically garaunteed that at least one round is not going to line up with the chamber and since they don't hold the rounds securely - the round(s) that don't line up exactly with the chambers and hit the cylinder instead - are going to fall out of the clip."

And I was also going to remark on how they are prone to get bent and become unusable.

But like I said, I'm waiting for the person who does own one to say something before I make my comments.

Also as of now - the CARR needs to be loaded one cartridge at a time. I don't think it would be difficult to make a speed loader for it - you just have to push the bullets in till they click in place. But no one has made a speed loader for the CARR yet.

Here is a video with the current methods:

Just watching some of the youtube vids shows the moon-clips to be IMO alright for the range which for many is all you need. That being said, I wouldn't want to risk such for CCW purposes but that's just me (I know a lot of people that do not carry a spare mag or speed-loader).

So my preliminary conclusion is I would buy the 905 as it's affordable if I wanted a 9mm revolver in my collection and for range usage. I (again, just me) would not purchase the revolver for CCW due to the nature of the moon-clips (maybe as a BUG...?).

^ Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the 905 uses a .38spl length cylinder.

The CzechPoint 9231 uses a 9mm sized cylinder - length wise.

Probably not a huge difference but there is less "jump" to the forcing cone.

Moon-Clips

dnsharpshooter

i emailed charter a few months ago and IIRC, they said the 9mm would be available april or may and the 45 will be available winter 2012...

Does Charter make moon-clips for their current .40 model (or propose to do so for the "coming" 9 or 45)? I can't seem to find that info on their site...

-Cheers

Thanks for the link CountZero--I guess if one was to consider this for CCW, wouldn't Charter consider the clips for a quick reload or some type of speed loader thereof? Interesting gun for the range but I cannot imagine having to reload the cylinder-chambers individually but maybe that's just me.

There is a way to pop rounds in from a semi-auto mag which isn't too bad - in the links I posted previously.

I think it would be easy to make a speed loader for this because you just need to push the round in until they click. You could use a spring retention system just like Charter Arms, but held on the opposite side of where the Pitbull extractor grabs them, and when the speed loader goes flush with the cylinder - the spped loader releases the cartridges.

I know I should patent this...

Countzero--I did indeed see the gentleman using both the mag and speed-strip but as you mentioned there needs go be something more practical for reloading in a CCW or any PD type situation.

it will happen, it will take time. they simply had to balance certain factors,

production capacity, current production rate of existing product, back log and all existing orders for current product versus

cost of retooling a production line, what products to decrease production for new models.. and so on.

they are doing thebest they can, and as fast as they can. Please dont crititicize them for issues in creating new product types. they simply dont have the money colt or sw has to simply create new product lines on a constant basis.

speed loader would be very very easy for it. there are two really good patent files for a product that would be PERFECT for it.

In the link previously posted by C0untZer0, it indicated that Charter had 25 total employees so I can now see what the issue is (I had realized they went through some tough times years back and then reorganized but I guess I wasn't aware of the scale). Obviously without having fired much less seen the revolvers offered (or soon to be) by Charter, if they work well and someone can market a reliable speed-loader, I think they are sitting on a "potential" goldmine whereby 25 employees may quickly turn into 100.

Just to reiterate for those people that constantly ask "why" the interest (I have a few PM's regarding this) when I could just get a .38/357, it's totally because of available resources. I have lots of .22lr, 9mm, .45acp on-hand and absolutely ZERO .38/357/41 etc.--hence my desire for the 9 or 45 revolver (S&W model 625 is beautiful but way too steep for my frugal ways).

It seems that people generally like Alfa Proj 357s, although most of the comments I've read are "Better than a Taurus but not as nice a finish as a S&W although - it doesn't have that stupid lock."

If you do get the Taurus...which have of course there are alternatives to the Taurus Moon Clips that really do work and dont make the 9mm rounds point all over the place like COuntchocula says he read. They clips just cant be used a whole bunch of time.
Alternative is here on link from TC Custom:
http://www.moonclips.com/cart/shopdi...=82&cat=Taurus

and here is a 905 stainless:

Buy it! NOW!!

Good info much appreciated. I am very close to pulling the trigger on one of these (no pun intended).

I didn't go out and purchase a 905...

I only want a 9mm revolver for the novelty of it and target shooting at the range.

Depending on how light and how small the Charter Arms Pitbull in 9mm is, I'd be tempted to use it as a BUG...

I'm not sure what I'd do with a 905.
