Why resize NEW brass?

Yep. I'll merge the two threads and add my 2 worth.

Jeryray,

The new brass was made ready to load at the factory. The neck dings make it hard to seat a bullet straight, so what matters mainly is just getting the dings out. You can run them over the expander in your sizing die, or you can get one of the Sinclair Expander dies for neck turning mandrels and get a mandrel for it that is a couple of thousandths under your bullet diameter and run the necks onto that in a press. They will then load and shoot just fine. If you have doubts, you can check the base-to-shoulder dimensions with a case comparator to check them against new commercial cartridges. I don't normally fully resize new cartridges because I've observed before that sizing a case twice will often make it a thousandth or two shorter than it was before I resized, so if the length is already adequate for chambering, I'm going to add extra stretching on first firing without a reason I can see for doing it.
