Why Mouse Guns

I do smell a troll on this one, but I'll bite. I carry large calibers and small calibers, but the only gun that is with me 100% of the time is my LCP.

When I am in my business attire (usually a dress shirt and tie), the only gun that can stay completely hidden from view is something the size of an LCP.

The premise of the question tells me the OP has decided that a bullet like the .380 leaves a person under gunned. I would counter with the fact that the .380 has been a primary LE agency caliber in Europe for decades and is still used to this day. It is still known in some areas as the 9mm short or 9mm Browning. You can thank Dirty Harry movies in the U.S. for giving people the impression that only very large calibers can kill, or "blow your head clean off".

I do carry a 9mm, .40 S/W, .45 acp or even a .357 Magnum, but when all I can conceal is my LCP (mousegun), I do so with confidence.

Other than an inch or two of penetration, both the .380 and 9mm will give you the same wound channel and tear you to shreds.

Because I don't carry a gun unless I can hit a saucer at 5 yards three times in a few seconds from the holster/pocket. I rely on proficiency more than power. That said, I carry everything from a pocket .380 to a 5" 1911, depending upon my situation.

My brother is a cop of 6-7 years. Last week he sent me the following email:

Today I went to a suicide where a guy used a .22 Beretta to shoot himself in the head. I can't recall the model. Anyway, if you ever think a .22 won't do the job, think again. Holy messy giant hole in the head crap. The entry wound looked like a .45 and there was so much blood all over the poor bastard it didn't look real. The pressure pushed his eyes out of the sockets into his closed eyelids. Ewwww.

Take it for what it's worth. Obviously the guy who did this to himself had pretty good aim and was at point blank range, but a shot to the head is a shot to the head.

I have carried my Beretta 21A .25acp on many occasions when it just wasn't prudent or possible to carry a larger pistol. It gets pretty hot here in Texas and sometimes, say running up to the corner store, I just dont want to have to wear a belt and holster. Sooo the 21A just goes in my pocket.

I slip my Kel-Tec p3at in my back pocket every day as it is just not feasible for me to carry something more substantial at work. It really makes me relish the weekend when I can carry my Colt Combat Commander

My NNA 22lr revolver is ALWAYS with me; in fact I forget it is there sometimes. Even when I go somewhere out of my general "comfort area" and I pack my CZ P-01 or Taurus 357mag, my NAA is still there. It has never failed me. It has consistently put cylinder after cylinder worth of 22lr ammo on a playing card at 10 yards in sort order (my personal test for worthiness). Is a “mouse gun” the perfect answer for everyone or every situation… Heck no. If the crap hits the fan, I want my shotgun and SKS with my hi-cap mags. But do I feel comfortable defending myself and my family in a pinch with my little NAA, try me and find out.

There are many times when you can't carry even a snub revolver.

Not really. Although that statement may apply to someone, somewhere, it doesn't apply to me, nor I suspect, to a lot of others.

Mouse Gun

My carry gun is a model 60 S&W 38 special. The Ruger LCP looks like a winner, I haven't handled one yet but they are climbing to the top of my list. Even w/crimson trace laser it would probably be several ozs lighter than my model 60, good for hot weather. NRA PATRON LIFE MEMBER

Perhaps this is due to a philosophy that the handgun is only one component of people's self-defense preparedness package.
