Why do you carry?

Because I learned a little too early in life that there are some very bad people in the world....ANYWHERE in the world, who care not one whit about taking your life, or the lives of the people around you, and the police can't be everywhere; and "Just In Case". Most of all, as above, BECAUSE I CAN!- Dakotan

1) A minister challenged me by asking, "If a man broke into your home and attacked your wife, what would you do about it?"

2) I have read John Lott.

3) I have been in one of those office buildings that was being shot up by some loony. I know what it is like to feel like a fish in a barrel. I won't go through that unarmed again.

4) The main reason is to do my part to improve the armed citizen to BG ratio so the BG's will be encouraged to switch to a profession with fewer inherent risks.

Better late than never, so I will still post on this.

Why do I carry, the same as what Art man have said:
1. For personal safety.
2. "Just in case."
3. There are bad, bad people out there.
4. The only instrument I can depend on when no body will give me help to protect everything that are dear to me.
5. I don't feel being a complete person without a gun now.

I have been involved in the fire service for all of my adult life. I have seen first hand, on too many occasions to remember, what one-man can/will do to another. There is a very small portion of the population that is willing to cut your throat for a dollar, or worse yet just for fun. You never know when you are going to meet that person. That is why I carry.

WHY DO I CARRY: I suppose that the following reason is as good, perhaps better than any other.

While I dearly hope that I never have actual recourse to arms, one can never tell.

Recognizing this possibility, carrying is the only way that I could be anywhere near certain that, if I ever needed a gun, that I would have one, for if you ever "need" a gun, YOU NEED IT RIGHT NOW.

All of the above reasons plus to quote Bill Jeans of Gunsite" It would be VERY embarrassing to be killed by someone loweron the evolutionary scale than yourself."

Besides, it REALLY tweeks the panty-waists.

Guns cause crime like trailerparks cause tornados.

I had no real interest in carrying a concealed weapon until one night, about 10-12 shots rang out behind my apartment. I was on the phone to the police within 15 seconds to report this outrage. They never showed up!!! I later discovered that the neighborhood that I was living in was the nexus of three rival Hispanic street gangs. It was rumored that the police were afraid to come on our street because it was a cul-de-sac and due to the ambush factor. That is when I started carrying a pistol. Arizona is an open carry state, so I carried that way until my CCW permit came. Experiences like this bring home the fact that our fine men and women in blue can't be there to protect us 24/7!

1. I have been attacked by a dog, too young to legally have a weapon, so I was almost dogfood. (Fortunately I was smarter than the dog, which later also charged a police officer.)

2. If you know anything about Atlanta, which I travel through frequently, I once had car trouble and was forced to pull off the interstate on 14th and Techwood. It was getting dark and I was the wrong color. Fortunately my friend had his gun and a cell phone.

3. Predators prey on the unprepared.

4. Found myself in another bad neighborhod, with about 2 dozen people beginning to surround my car.

5. Was in Atlanta during the "Rodney King Riots"

6. 1 Timothy 5:8NIV "If anyone does not provide for his realtives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." I commanded by the Creator to provide safety for my family. Even Jesus when on the cross, made sure His mother was provided for by asking John, His disciple, to care for Mary, Jesus's mother.

7. I am a citizen of the United States of America, and as such and at this time can exercise my God given right to arm myself for defense of my Life, Liberty, and Property; therefore I proudly carry a CCW. May the LORD save us the day we are refused the right to keep and bear arms.

I think open carry is too dangerous these days. You would be the target of attack just for your gun. Concealed carry gives us the added benefit of the bad guys not knowing how many of any given crowd are armed . Thats is why the government wants to outlaw handguns, because they can't stop us from carrying what they can't see. Lets face it. Unless we carry our pistols at all times we are effectively disarmed already. Once we are separated from our weapons we are no longer a threat to anyone who wants to harass us.

1) Dad told me to
2) Dad was right and I'm here to post this
3) It is my duty to protect my baby, myself and those around me
4) Under the best circumstances the police are 30 min away and I may have 2 or 3 secs
5) Because I am a free born law abiding American
6) Divine right
7) Biological imperative
8) I'm a carnivore

"Quis custodiet ipsos custodes" RKBA!

I carry because there are people out there who like to torture and kill just for something to do. Most of you have heard this before, but there may be a newcomer who hasn't.
Before carry laws, my best friend and his new wife deciced to accept an invitation to spend a few days in Key West with her family. Being that this was before CCW's, my friend decided to drive from Richmond, Ky. to Key West without his .38. Right outside Jonesboro, Ga., my friend and his wife were forced to the side of the road after being rammed from behind repeatedly by a pickup truck.
When my friend got out of his car to try and talk to the drunk, angry man in the truck who had caused the accident, he was attacked by the man. My friend's widow told me that my friend fell across the hood of their car with a gash in his throat.
The psycho had slit his throat with a hunting knife. She told me that it took about three or four minutes for my friend and school room-mate to bleed to death. They had been married for less than a year.
This is my reason to carry my pistol 24/7.
