Why do you carry?

Oh, I forgot to add my girlfriend to the list. (hope she doesn't read this thread)

Walking up to the mike--*taptaptap* (squeal)

Lotsa reasons:

Ft. Lauderdale to the north

Miami to the south

It's my right, and I choose to exercise it.

I'm doing my part to help make our LEOs' lives a little easier. That's not advocating vigilantism, by the way. It's advocating the deterrency factor--making the BGs think twice about jumping someone because they don't know if they're armed or not.

Also, because my safety and security are my responsibilities.

We need to hook up. Where do you go shooting?

Does it count if The Rock works in Portmouth and Norfolk and lives in Green Run/Timberlake in VB?

BTW, have Banzai come by the store.

The Rock

Because in the Boy scouts they said "be prepared"

It only took one trip into the woods bird hunting with a shotgun full of #7 and a .22 pistol and running into fresh bear sign that made me say... hmmmmmm... better get a bigger pistol. Now when i go to the woods there is ALWAYS a gun with me.

You don't know who or what is out there in the woods, sometimes its possible to walk into someone's pot plantation in the middle of a wilderness area for example...

Because I can.
Because I should.
To protect my wife, myself, or other innocents.

Here's the reason (I posted this on another thread):

Approximately three-and-a-half years ago, I was mugged outside of my apartment complex late one Saturday night. I was carrying a bundle of suit jackets and ties (I had been shopping that day) among other things when I noticed a car pull up a short distance behind me: I initially assumed that someone was dropping off a friend. I began to walk on, but something inside told me to look over my shoulder: I saw a man running toward me with a gun pointed at me. He was a car length away, but in such a position that I made a split second decision to drop everything and run for my life. I ran, instead of obeying him and giving him what he wanted, because I had heard of a number of incidents where muggers simply shot their victims and took what they wanted. I also heard a police officer on a radio show state that if a mugger tries to force you into a car (to take you to ATM machines, for example), you should either fight or run: if you get into the car, you will be killed.

As I ran, I cringed in fear as I listened for shots being fired, expecting to be hit in the back. The mugger did not shoot; however, I had no idea whether or not he was pursuing me. Since I was running at top speed, I soon ran out of breath. I cannot adequately express to you the fear and utter helplessness that I felt as I realized that I could absolutely run no farther and turned to see if my attacker was behind me. If he was behind me, I had no strength to fight or run further: I would be totally at his mercy. I thought briefly that my loved ones have no idea what’s going on right now. Fortunately, he did not pursue, and I escaped unhurt while only losing some new neckties. I read subsequently in the local newspaper that approximately 20 similar incidents had been perpetrated by what police suspected to be the same pair of suspects over the same weekend: victims who had not been as fortunate as I had had guns pointed at their heads and were told repeatedly that they would be killed. Thankfully, none of the victims were killed.

I and my wife now each own a handgun and have our CHL. We practice regularly and are prepared to use our guns in self defense.

Reasons I carry:
1.My family has lots of enemies.
2.My Grandad told me to( I was 13).
3.Feel 'Naked without it'(like BlueyeDog said.)
4.SelfDefence is my Right.
5.And for all the reasons mentioned by the other members.

If some one attacks me I want to defend myself. If several people attack me, I want to be able to defend myself to the limit of my capability. If so many people attack me that I cannot successfully defend myself and I am going to get killed, I want to take as many of them with me as I can.

1. My right.

2. I am determined to see things from the "fittest" side of the Darwinian bell curve.

3. My pleasure.

4. My wife.

5. The uncertainty that the other guy won't have one.

6. Martial arts training has taught me everything but the use of a firearm; ergo, a firearm must be a vital part of my repetoire.

I once saw Karl Malden do a TV commercial holding a Smith 629 .44 mag 8 3/8 barrel,
His final words
Smith and Wesson Don't Leave Home Without It!

Ran right out and bought one. Didn't know which was bigger His Nose or the gun barrel :D

Main reason today as it was many years ago when I first got my license to carry, Personal protection for myself and the other members of my family.

Happy Shooting :)

1. Because it is my duty to protect myself and those that I love.
2. Because there is a high goblin/citizen ratio where I live.
3. Because it makes my squishy liberal friends do the pee-pee dance.

Audemus jura nostra defendere

Because like so many in my family for hundreds of years, I choose to protect myself and loved ones by accepting the responsibility and burden of carrying a weapon for good.

The Rock and Banzai know each other?!?

You missed your nightly trip by the store, young man. You must be slipping!

And yes, working in (or simply travelling through) Portsmouth is MORE than enough reason to carry! I live here, so I carry a backup as well. :)

1. "Be prepared." Once an Eagle Scout...
2. If I have it and don't need it, no harm done. If I need it and don't have it, much harm done.
3. 2nd Amendment right to bear arms...which exists for a reason.
4. 1st Amendment right of freedom of religion (seriously): Christ told his followers to buy a sword for very practical reasons, and armed self-defense is a Scriptural "well duh".

Because I work in a correctional facility and have a undergrad degree in psychology. These alone have enlightened me to the psychopathology of the modern sociopath.
Like the man said the " I am determined to see things from the "fittest" side of the Darwinian bell curve." Social Darwinism is no philisophical concept. I see its stark violent reality every day . And most important my dog needs me too. I love that guy! :D

I do not want to see myself or any other person be hurt or killed at the hands of a violent criminal. I consider it my moral duty to stand prepared because "All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." It's not a perfect world, which is why it's better to have a gun and not need it than to need it and not have it.

I don't carry because I have a need to, I carry because I have a right to.

Same goes for what I say. Most (probably all) of what I say is un-needed but I have a right to say it.
