Why do we have guns?

Good point. There are plenty of serious political subjects that I am at best apathetic about, so it would be a bit hypocritical if my only reasons for owning guns were serious ones...the reason I choose this serious hobby is because I enjoy it and it is FUN!

1. If I really need to defend myself against riots, mobs, etc etc it's great to know I can with a high quality reliable carbine.

2. If I need to defend myself against a person or person(s) on the street it's a good feeling to have a 45ACP Glock on my hip.

3. If I need to hunt for food it's a good feeling to have a 30-06 around!

Why?

Two of my Uncles have ties to the Holocaust. I knew the answer to this question as soon I could speak.

Why? This much is self evident; I am a free man by birth. Governments by nature gradually place their populations in bondage. Some govts have eventually become oppressive and murderous. The second amendment to the constitution was placed to recognize our pre-existent right as free men to defend ourselves against tyranny, oppression and crime, by state of the art means. Hunting and sportsmanship are secondary benefits to the freedom to arm ourselves with state of the art means. That those means have been attenuated since early last century is a crime against the constitution and against whichever higher power exists. Lastly, without full individual liberty tempered by personal accountability, the individual cannot reach his full potential and the refinement of the human race is frustrated. The further we travel down this road of decline, the more we'll see humans behave as animals....and worse.

I have a good friend and hunting buddy who is a LEO.

One of his favorite conversations is that you can count on one hand the number of cops who have had the opportunity to save or protect someone.

His position is that LEO's are nothing more than fairly well compensated janitors, there to clean up the mess after the deed is done. So, if you're expecting the police to defend and protect, you're living in a fantasy world.

I own weapons because I take personal responsibility for my safety and the safety of my family and I take it very seriously.

I mean no disrespect to anyone in law enforcement by making the statement above. I doubt I could deal with some of the stuff he describes over the camp fire.

We all responded the usual "cause we can" and "to be safe" and"second amendment".
Uh, no we didn't. There was a severe lack of civility in that thread. It sunk to insulting the OP and quickly ran off-topic. It was closed for good reason.

We don't refer to other members as "trolls." If you read that thread, you saw where it went.

Funny but this thread is not getting the same response as the other.

My answer stays the same.

It is a tool for some jobs, a means to provide, a means for feeling safe.

Why do we have more than one? Now that's the real question.

I am first and foremost a gun enthusiast, and firearms are an enjoyable hobby. However I'm also well aware of the need to have the means to protect myself and my loved ones, since we have a legal system that's so messed up that our criminals never stay in jail. It also doesn't help that we are a culture of "human rights" and don't seem to have the heart to do what it takes to reform habitual lawbreakers. And the police are outnumbered and overworked, so in many areas help may not get to you in time. Therefore the need to own a gun for self defense in this country is paramount. Now, as for why I don't simply own just one gun, that I can't answer. You can tell me that I don't "need" that many guns, but in my opinion most people don't "need" those massive SUV's and pickup trucks everybody seems to be driving these days either. But the USA is not the kind of country to tell its citizens what they "need" and don't, and hopefully it never will be. If it does then it will cease to be the country our founding fathers created for us.

How is the condition of the United States different than what we see in post #8? It's the same thing on the streets nowadays as in those pics. It'd take a blind man to miss it. One can almost hear that guy Bunnells voice talking about Officer safety while gazing on the photos...:(

Good god, That is like asking why eat food, or drink liquids, or breeth air.. Not sure about anyone else but hell, ITS CAUSE I NEED TO TO LIVE! LOL..

As long as you are within the federal/state/local laws, any reason to own a gun is a good one. Had to put that first part in just incase someone brings up talks of radical groups/people...

You can learn from guns. Guns are tools and in order to use these tools you must be patient and responsible. Pretty much any situation that you'll need a gun in takes a great deal of discipline. So in a round about way, you can learn a lot about guns and in the same time there nice little teachers as well. :D Just think about how much you learned shotting that BB thru your old soda can as a kid.. point down range, steady, aim thru, saftey off right before the shot.. and if you shoot your neighbors cat or your window your dad's going to kick your @$$.. see Discipline :p
