Why do people put knives in gun photos?

Gun photos are naked without a knife in them.

Never understood watches in gun photos either, but I’ve taken some to post in threads about guns & watches. Wonder if I should go pick one of my neighbors roses and put it in a gun photo... :D

I would assume people do so because of the correlation between the two. They both represent weapons of some sort or purpose.

In the case you mention, both are adequate self defense tools. Unlike your assosciation of the car and the lawnmower, where neither really have a commonly shared purpose.

^This exactly.

They are both SD weapons and should be carried with each other if possible. One or the other works.

I’m about to order that Benchmade in your photo. How do you like yours?
You can actually see the blade style in the photo? I sure as hell can't.

The BM Bali-Song in the photo is over 12 years old. It's a model 46... titanium handles and a 154CM "spear point" blade with a false edge on one side... so you don't slice the crap out of your knuckles. :D I don't believe they've made this model in about 5 years.

There was a short run, "reissue", numbered, limited edition 46-01 for around $475, but they are very hard to find... and for $475, overpriced IMO.

Cheers,
C

Actually, I was asking tomrkba about the Benchmade Nim Cub II in His photo with his Ruger. Note the Benchmade Logo on his blade.

Backup...the gun, that is...

Actually I only carry that little ole gun in the unlikely event that my knife fails to do its job...

Their appeal might be because of the very serious, natural looks and history.
If they weren't so pricey, I would immed. buy them for both the M-1 and "Jungle Carbine".

Let's not forget that our ancestors often hunted or fought with a very short blade having a point on a long stick.

I'll bet it has a lot to do with the look.

Typically, the knife pictured doesn't appear to have ever been used.

Maybe it is for scale? Just sayin... Ya know?

Great play on words! :)

it's just our culture guys. tools of defense or cqb related.

and hey alot of times some of the greatest gun/knives are made by the same manufacturers as we know!

its really no different than putting .50 cal shells in a pic of a .45.

It just all appeals to us.

My self defense knife is not my 'every day' knife. The attributes which make a great SD knife is often different than a EDK.

My wife laughs all the time because I collect flashlights, guns and knives. I guess in some cases knives are in pictures with guns because people are just combining their collections.

I like it.

People like to put "props" in their pictures. Some use knives, some watches. One fellow on Glock Talk is famous for having some kind of food in his. French fries, a candy bar...something like that.

I use a tree in most of mine.

One of the most interesting gun photos I can recall is one used to illustrate an article about the Colt New Service. I suppose it was supposed to give you the feel of a 1940s private eye or adventurer somewhere East of Suez.

It was on a bedside table with an old-fashioned lamp. There was an ashtray, some coins, a watch (I think), not much else that I recall. The gun looked huge, because they are.
