Your statement . Anyway when his gun gets dirty at the range he has reliability problems.
What I have been thinking of late is that in a firefight the number of rounds used especially in defence at ones house will be so low that it doesnt matter if the gun gets less reliable when it has shoot say 100 rounds or more. The fight will be over well before he loads 12 mags and if it lasts that long its time to go to the long gun. So imho those tight custom guns should do fine for defense if they start out lubed and clean.
I keep an 870 for back up with my very reliable 1911 just in case the fight goes long or the bg doesnt seem to understand he aint welcome.
As to 25 yards I think it is good for practice to improve your accurace and maybe more important to those who live in a state that allows carry, here in kalifornia you can carry from about your bedroom to your living room, not to far hence not much need for the long shots.
One more thing, no gun is 100% reliable (remember they are made by man) , you shoot it enough it will screw up eventually. From parts wear if nothing else.
Not to mention bad mags, ammo (low powder ch.) , limp wristing it, and for all practicle purposes it wont fire with any of these problem, and if you are shot dead because of a bad follower or such it aint much reasurance to know the gun didnt do it, it was the mag, but your still just as dead.
