WHY DO GUYS CONCERN THEMSELVES WITH 25YRD ACCURACY?

just another thought.
seams I read that a security guard engaged the shooters at columbine at 75 yards but due to never having shot at that range did no good. you can never be under trained!! I bet that there are a few parents that wish the security guard could have pulled off that shot

Your statement . Anyway when his gun gets dirty at the range he has reliability problems.

What I have been thinking of late is that in a firefight the number of rounds used especially in defence at ones house will be so low that it doesnt matter if the gun gets less reliable when it has shoot say 100 rounds or more. The fight will be over well before he loads 12 mags and if it lasts that long its time to go to the long gun. So imho those tight custom guns should do fine for defense if they start out lubed and clean.

I keep an 870 for back up with my very reliable 1911 just in case the fight goes long or the bg doesnt seem to understand he aint welcome.

As to 25 yards I think it is good for practice to improve your accurace and maybe more important to those who live in a state that allows carry, here in kalifornia you can carry from about your bedroom to your living room, not to far hence not much need for the long shots.

One more thing, no gun is 100% reliable (remember they are made by man) , you shoot it enough it will screw up eventually. From parts wear if nothing else.
Not to mention bad mags, ammo (low powder ch.) , limp wristing it, and for all practicle purposes it wont fire with any of these problem, and if you are shot dead because of a bad follower or such it aint much reasurance to know the gun didnt do it, it was the mag, but your still just as dead.

docstodd,

A SWAT member emptied an MP5 at a 'figment of his imagination' at Columbine. He was probably well trained even at 'long' distance. I assume that shootin stuff that's shooting back is different than a piece of paper.

FWIW I practice mainly between 7 yards and contact distance right before darkness.

I am just not interested in any full size handgun (not snubs and minis) that is not accurate enough for me to bounce a soda can around with at 25 yards if I do everything right. With what top quality handguns cost these days I do not think that is asking too much.

My long -range eye site is somewhat lacking and I have a slight hand tremor. So I can't shoot worth crap at much over 30 FEET.

But, I don't worry too much about it. I carry a snubby magnum for personal defense not WAR. If things get that bad I'll just crack open one of those overturned-still burning cop cars and grab me a long gun!

;)

25 yards....sheesh. I think I'd just get in my car and drive away if the threat was THAT far away.

Because one of these days a person may have to shoot at something(varmit, large bear, bad person)at a distance of 25 yards or so.Your life might just depend on it. If you shoot well at 25 yards you should be able to shoot the center out of the target at 7 to 15 yards.
