WHY DO A LOT OF GUYS HATE THE 9MM?

The 9 sucks. It's easy to espouse its efficiency when you live in the ever benign world of Seattle, WA. Go talk to the fighters in areas like Compton, Watts, etc. The majority of them will NOT want a 9. Look at what the guys who storm the crack houses are carrying... .45s and .357s. Bigger is always better, if you can handle it comfortably.

Cripes, A, you're comparing apples and orangutangs!

Many police units STILL carry 9mms, even those who "storm the crack houses."

But THEIR requirements as police officers are significantly different from OUR requirements as civilian CCW carriers.

You're also not getting anywhere with statements such as "9mm sucks." No offense, but that shows an unthinking bias that's based on emotion and presumption, not rational thinking.

Beware the man with the S&W .357 Mag.
Chances are he knows how to use it.

Nines are cool, specially the bigger ones. I like the 9X32r. Up to 200gr at 1200fps, or 125gr at 1800fps.

Sam.........follow me, I know a shortcut.

I don't feel undergunned carrying my Beretta 92FS. I simply prefer something hotter, .45ACP or .357 Mag, as my regular carry gun.

Yes, I've heard the old dogs sneering at the "wimpy" 9x19. Oddly, none of those dogs are willing to act as my target stands when I'm practicing DA/SA with the Beretta.

Back in the 1960's flying as a helicopter crewmember in Viet Nam, I was issued a .38 Special revolver that I refused to carry I also had the option to carry a 1911-A1 but I carried my personal weapon which was a 9mm BHP......yeah, I'm an old fart but I still like the 9mm, for one thing, I had 13 rounds in the mag. as opposed to 6 rounds in the revolver and 7 rounds in the 1911. :)

Getting ammo for the BHP at that time was not a problem as I had several Australian friends also in Nam.

Hey DorGunR,

You made a SMART decision.

The Military .38 Spl. ammo was UNBELIEVABLY wimpy!

It was designed originally for the aluminum frame/cylindered S&W Aircrewman revolver.

Even though the cylinder was later changed to steel because the aluminum just wasn't up to it, the military .38 ammo never was updated.

I'm pretty certain that the military loading didn't even generate 200 ft. pounds of energy at the muzzle, where as both the typical 9mm and .45 military loadings generated over 300.

Sorry, I have to agree with A, all the gunfighters I know on LAPD metro SWAT, won't touch a 9mm. They're ruthless on anyone who shows up with one, they let you be if you got a .40.
