A few years ago I got to playing with a double percussion 12 ga shotgun. I found it grouped like a rifle at 50 yards, provided it was loaded with a proper weighed and patched ball. I also added a rear sight and sighted it to the left barrel. I've shot three bucks with it so far.
I have had excellent results with a rifled choke tube and 2 3/4'' shells. I shoot 2 3/4 because you can carry 1 or 2 more in the bottom if you use a magazine extender. A remington 870 would be an excellent shotgun to set up.They are very affordable from Walmart.
Remington 870 Wing Master Deer Left Handed. I have a fully rifled Hastings slug barrel with a cantilever scope mount on it. A Weaver V3 1-3 sits on top in Millet rings. It works very well with 2 3/4 inch Partition Gold slugs.
I use my Ithaca 37 with a red dot sight , my slugs are lee 1 once key drive using 2 3/4 inch hulls results have been slug hits deer and deer hits ground
I do, I use my 870 20 gauge that I have had for a while and I use a red dot on it. But NO MORE!!! Indiana just introduced rifles in pistol calibers here...thats what I will be using. Just as soon as I pony up the cash for one.'
Check out this upset 20 gauge Winchester/BRI sabot slug that I recovered from the far side of a large deer after taking a frontal quartering shot that traveled diagonally.
The 2 3/4" sabot slug started out at .40 caliber and ended up mushrooming to ~ .64 caliber.
It was shot out of a Remington 870 Express 20 gauge youth w/rifled barrel fitted with a Simmons 4X32 shotgun scope.
It's the only projectile that I've ever recovered from a downed deer and I consider this a "real trophy".
I have carried them hunting with a 20 ga. with modified choke but as it turned out I did not get a shot that I could take. would not hesitate a bit to plug a deer with one.
since day one ive used my grandfathers Rem. 1100 with nothing but federal ammunition i dont know how i got so lucky to get such a nice gun that shoots well with such cheap ammo but my 1100 has yet to fail me my first deer at 50 yards crumbles so quickly i thought it bolted (standing in high weeds)
Shotguns only around me. I can pick from my Ithaca M37 Deerslayer in 12gauge or my Remington 870 with a 20" ImpCyl barrel with rifle sights. Both use Brenneke KO Slugs to great effect.
I really wanna rifle hunt with my Swiss K31, using handloads of 180gr Sierra Game King Soft Points. I swear I think I am a reincarnated Swiss Citizen due to my affinity for the K31 rifles!
I bought a Mossberg 12 ga 500, over 20 years ago... It is the same gun I will use this season.. I use brenneke slugs in it. It now sports a rifled barrel and scope.. However I have never killed a deer through the scope..I am looking to buy a rifle now that I live in Pa but honestly I wonder if I'm not wasting my money.
I have used for years a Savidge 210 slug gun with good success using Winchester sabots but this year I have an Encore Pro Hunter 12 ga 28 in barrel which should be interesting.
Delaware is slug or muzzleloader only

Since I lived in Iowa for 8 yeard I was forced to become very familiar with slugs. And since I got a rifled barrel with my 870 I tried several sabots (unfortunately they are very expensive compared to lead slugs) I used remingtons for a few years then switched to winchester supremes. When I was shooting 20 ga I used the partition gold. On my 12 it was a little too much for the shoulder for prolonged shooting so I switched to the platinum tips. It seemed like there was less recoil. (partition gold: 385 grains at 1900 fps. Platinum: 400 at 1700) Both are awesome and if you have a rifled barrel, can afford 3 boxes a year (15 rounds each at about $16 to $18 a box :barf you won't miss out to 150 to 200 yards easy with a scope. iron sights out to 150 max unless you know you can.
I use an 870 smooth bore that has front and rear sights on it with 3" magnum rifled slugs. Before my 870 I used an 1100 with the same type of barrel but 2 3/4" rifled slugs.
When stationed in Maryland in a shotgun zone, I put a rifled barrel on my Mossberg 12 ga pump, drilled and tapped and mounted a really cheapy 4x scope.
Killing machine, but I dreaded sighting it in every year...
