the gp-100.in a SD situation especially, the wheelgun is going to have much less things that are going to cause problems and less moving parts.you can leave a wheelgun loaded indefinatly or pop in 6 with a speedloader just as easily, plus, I like the 125 grain jacket'd hp performance 357 mag gives along with the extra range and accuracy.38 specials for plinking, its all good.

in my opinion, the gp is one of rugers best offerings in their entire line of handguns, solid stainless steel..built like a work of art that shoots.

I voted for the .357 without hesitation. I don't have a good .357, and I do have a very good .45 auto, so why get a P-90? ;)

interestingly I voted for the GP-100 on this poll yet I voted for the Commander on trigger happy's Colt poll

those apples and oranges are very close in price :)

I voted for the P90 before I read the post. If given a choice of one, it would be the revolver. But I kinda like S&W's better. I like the P series rugers and already have a P89 and a couple of revolvers, so the 45cal would round out my collection.
But anyway, if it had to be only one, it would be the gp100

Gp-100

Howdy,

My first handgun was the GP100, so I'm a bit biased! I'm with Bill CA, the GP100 is so versatile that the poor P90 just doesn't stand a chance. Most will concede that Ruger's wheelguns are at the top of thier class, but few would make a similar argument for Ruger's semi-autos.
Between .38 target loads for a fun day at the range (or for small varmits) clear up to raging, full-power .357 loads, the GP100 has more bases covered than any single handgun they offer. That big frame soaks up recoil. After probably 10,000 rounds since 1997, it's trigger has smoothed wonderfully.
Make mine a GP100!

IF buying a large gun for target practice,if carrying isn't a primary issue,i'd go with the Gp100.....I believe you would be more accurate with it.

Stock gun for Stock gun, revolvers are more accurate, sights fixed on barrels, not on the slide which will move, better grip angles, and you can hold them higher usually allowing for a better lower bore Axis. However Semi's are fun(when they aren't jamming, though they take more practice to master them on Average)

Ruger 9mm's can at times make 20,000 or more rounds....
the 45 i'm not sure of,though i know they build it strong
Gp 100's ,the highest one's i've heard of so far made 70-80 k rounds If shot with 50% magnum 50 % 38special.

Keep in mind those were better scenarios, but not Extremely rare ones either....i'd Expect 60,000 rounds before it taps out. Any way you slice it any of Those rugers are fine guns.

You need to get the GP-100, because revolvers are way better than semiautos overall. The operation is much simpler, which means a TON if you ever need to use the gun to defend your home, yourself, or other people.

For a semiauto, I would leave all other makes behind and get a Sig Sauer, in 9mm, because it's easy to shoot, high-capacity, and cheap to shoot compared to a .45.

A GP-100 and Sig 226 would be a nice pair.

GP 100...
Versatile, Reliable, Choice of 2 different calibers, built like a tank and will last the rest of your life.

There is also something really fun about shooting a double-action revolver...at least for me.

The GP100, I'd put it (with some mild action smoothing) up against any other 357 and if some decree dictated that I own only the GP I'd be happy with it.

The P90 is a fine gun and very servicable but there are a lot of 45's I'd chose to own instead.

Gp 100

I don't have a auto-loader, but I do have a GP100 4" (blued), it's a great all around fun revolver to have in your arsenal. I also like the option of the 38 round that is available with this gun. I use the Speer 357 mag. 125gr. GDHP round for my choice in HD.

For myself, I couldn't decide, so I own one of each. (GP-100 & KP345PR)

On my visits to the range, I take them both of them with me.

Still can't decide.

I shoot the GP-100 double action almost exclusively and the trigger and I have become good friends, comfortable with each other. Plus, it will handle anything I care to stuff in it.

The KP345PR is a natural pointer for me, and it lends itself to instinctive shooting. Just point it about 2" below your intended target and you're there, within reason.

Decisions, decisions.......

thanks

My first handgun was the GP-100. I also owned a P90 for a couple of weeks. Fit, finish, and workmanship is far superior on the GP-100.
