Which of the following .45 ACP handguns would you pick from this poll, assuming you had no other big bore handguns and the primary use of it would be for home defense and the range.

I have the G21 and the CZ97. I have had work done on both. Full trigger job on the CZ and 3.5 trigger on the Glock. The CZ trigger is so light, I would never carry it. The CZ foes have an edge in accuracy but if I were to shed one gun,it would be the CZ. The G21 is my very first Glock and is the best of the bunch.

What I like most is immaterial to determine which gun is best for you.

Skill level, hand size, strength, expectations, etc, etc are all different between you and everyone else. My advice would be to fondle as many as you can, shoot them, before you buy.

By the way, all the guns listed are high quality and would fit the listed purpose. But....do they fit YOU?

Other guns equally suited, tanfoglio (eaa witness) stock 2, stock 3 and the XD line. I prefer heavy steel guns in big calibers to tame recoil. Thus the CZ97 from your list would be my choice (but the stock 2 or 3 are better).

With home defense and range use being primary, I'd opt for the CZ clone that's currently in my collection, the SAR K2-45. Excellent firearm, with the most ergonomic grip I've ever had the pleasure to grab in a high cap, 14+1, .45acp. Makes the 21SF I owned feel odd and blocky, and the FNX .45 was close, but extremely top heavy with a trigger not quite as nice as the SAR.

Now the SAR is all metal compared to the other two, and that's why it's better balanced, IMO, compared to the polymer lowers of the competition I've owned, mentioned. The weight of the SAR settles into your palm, and feels, shoots, like a much smaller handgun.

None are a bad choice, but for your intended purpose, I like the CZ idea. Of course, a nice 1911 would be a good option as well.

Mrray13 brought up a good one! I think the k2 is based on the tanfo version of the cz75 pattern. Which, oddly is BETTER than the CZ version for large calibers.

NONE OF THEM!!!

The only remotely interesting part of the question is why you chose those 4 for your poll, and that's just idle curiosity on my part...;)

Which .45 ACP Handgun?
Glock 21
Glock 41
FNX-45
CZ 97 BD

When I see polls like this, I always wonder "why these in particular?".

primary use of it would be for home defense and the range.

Pick one. Whatever works for you and you like. Of those, I'd probably go with one of the Glocks, simply because of the ease of maintenance, and some familiarity with them.

But, yeah, my choice would probably be something not on your list.

I decided on .45 ACP for my big bore caliber because ammunition seems to be fairly common and cheaper than a lot of other big bore calibers. Right now I am exploring different designs and wanted some opinions of those who have used them. I'm not saying there aren't any other possible models, just not any others right now that have grabbed my attention. Nothing is set in stone. I have a CZ but in 9mm, so that is why the CZ made the list. I don't have a Glock and have always been close to buying one, so that is why it made the list. Before purchasing my first handgun, a Sig P320, I had considered a FNX-45 Tactical, so that is how the FNX made it.

For a .45 ACP range gun I have always said the Springfield Armory Range Officer (RO) because it's got the stuff I like, (like adjustable sights) and none of the extra stuff that drives up the price. I think it's a great range gun, and that's where any of your guns will spend most of their time, and I think it would be totally adequate as a home defense weapon.

The Glock 21 REALLY feels like a 2x4 board in my hands but probably would get my vote over the RO because of the higher capacity if home defense is the primary goal. And *lots* of folk are okay with the 2x4 grip and sometimes when I get the urge to get a Glock (it would be a 20 or 21) I realize that I could probably get used to the grip.

Out of the guns listed - Glock 21, I have a 30 and they make a great pair!

Saying this, I shoot any of my 1911's in 45 better!

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the options on the poll. My vote went to the Glock 21 Gen 4 for home defense and range because mine has always been reliable.

Favorite range gun: CZ 97 (the weight just soaks up all the recoil, very fun to shoot).

I think your best solution is to buy the Glock 21 and CZ 97 ;)
