IMO, the Dan Wesson IS awesome.

Ruger is pretty tough to beat, pertaining to reliability, toughness and cost. I love my steel Ruger .45.

Ruger is also cast. The quality of frame is apparent. I think the best base guns are Springfield or Colt IMHO. Then again I always think in terms what can I stash for my son( and whatever boys or girls my wife and I may have), [emoji2371].

Metroarms in the Philippines make some pretty darned good 1911s for very affordable prices. Their barrels, slide-to-frame fit and quality of steel are hard to beat. They shoot well enough right out of the box. They do use MIM internal parts, but those are all easily replaced with top-shelf Wilson Combat stuff, as I did on mine. My 1911 - specialist gunsmith told me my American Classic II was of basically high quality and was a VERY good candidate for upgrades, so I turned him loose on it. About a grand later and I have a gun that I will put up against anything out there. My gunsmith told me it is the equal in every way to his personal Dan Wesson, and I believe him.
