I tend to be a bit OCD, so I haven't yet decided on the best spot. I have analyzed just about every which way and I just can't decide on what's best. Here's the breakdown:
I drive a 2004 Honda Accord EX. I love my car, it's reliable as all get-out, and has a few good spots to tuck my PX4. Note that I never leave the gun in the car if at all possible. If it happens it is an aberration. Wyoming is very friendly with automobile gun laws, so I don't have to worry about leaving it loaded, and I have my serial number memorized just in case, as well as the Beretta serial number labeling rules. Mine starts with "PY", for instance, because it is a pistol and made at Beretta's Italian factory. The CX4 carbine serial would start CY if made in Italy. I forget the letter for US manufacture, but I digress. Here are my options:
- The door map pocket. This is the place it generally goes, but lately I have been troubled by this for a few reasons. First, the holster I have is a Galco inside-the-waistband holster, and the whole package ends up being a bit chubby with the belt clip. I have practiced taking it out in a hurry and about 1/4 of the time it ends up snagging for a few precious seconds. In addition, if I had forgotten to lock my door and a bad fellow opened my door, I'd be separated from the weapon, and perhaps uniting it with the perpetrator.
- The glovebox. I just don't feel good about this, quite frankly. I don't want any passengers I have messing with it (not that I'd let them, but I'd just rather not take the chance) and it's the first place someone would check. I also don't like having to reach over that far to be armed.
- The center console. This is what I am leaning towards. Fairly protected from outside access. The only problem is that I am right handed and it'd be difficult to access in a hurry. Same problem with the door map pocket, actually.
- On my person. The Beretta PX4 is not an optimally sized carry gun, and is not very comfortable worn in the car.
- I have one of the little CD cubby flip-up things in front of my shifter that would be absolutely perfect if my gun were little enough. It'd fit an LCP or a 638 flawlessly. Unfortunately, once again, my gun is fat.
Such is the carrier's dilemma.
