Where has this gun been all my life?

I love the lever action as well its a capable hunting rifle and weapon but dosent draw alot of attention like a clip fed semi auto. As far as compact and light goes the Winchester 94 is tops

I'm not particularly crazy about my Winchester '94 (44 Mag) but I love my Marlin (30-30) and my Rossi (357) and my Savage (300 Sav) and my other Marlin (38-40)...

My wife wandered into what I believe to be a 20's era Model 94 in 32-20 last year. Beat to hell, but a sweet little rifle that doesn't appear to weigh much more than a couple pillows. Love that brown octagonal barrel.

The Model 94 was never made in .32-20.

If it's a Model 94, it's either a .32-40 or a .32 Winchester Special.

If it is chambered in .32-20, then it's most likely a Model 92.

Mike, I'm no Winchester expert, but it's definitely a .32-30 (actually it's listed as .32 WCF), so I guess it's a '92.

Yep, the Winchester 92 and the 94 look VERY similar. Almost identical, except for a difference in the size of the receiver.

WCF (Winchester Center Fire) was more or less the standard Winchester naming convention for many of its cartridges.

Almost identical, except for a difference in the size of the receiver.

Additionally, the two locking lugs at the rear of the receiver on the Model 92 (similar to the design of the 1886/71 models) is an easily observed difference between it and the Model 94.

I didn't truly love my 94 Winny until I put a Redfield peep sight on it. Now it's one of my 2 favorite rifles and the both wear peeps...

I have owned a few over the years and have never hunted with one. I still own one from the 40's or 50's I picked up cheap. Some one tried to checker the stock. I was eventually going to convert to 38-55. Last year I used a 30-30 to hunt for the first time. Believe me, once you use a 99' Savage 30-30, you would not bother with a 94' Winchester. The action on a 99' is smooth as it gets.

Something just dawned on me. I've seen many people mention the Savages, Win., and Marlins. No one has mentioned the Ruger 96/44. I've always liked that little rifle.

Ah, the enduring genius of John Browning...the same guy who designed the 1911 and the M2 .50 caliber machine gun, among many other firearms.

94 "dream to carry"

I just got my first Winchester 94 a couple of months ago, a 1974 top eject model and love it,
I can't shoot jack s**t with those "Buckhorn" sights though (50 year old eyes), so I ordered a Williams peep for it.
I'm shooting 4"-6" @ 100 yards, but I put a peep on my Marlin and dropped my groups to 3" or less (@ 100) when I do my part right.
The 94 is lighter than the Marlin easy to carry all day with plenty of power for deer, black bear, and hogs.
I threw a pachmayer "slip on" pad to add length of pull and tame those 170 grn pills.

foolproof?

I am getting a little tired of lugging around heavy rifles when they are unnecessary.
So...what receiver sight would you guys recommend for a 1952 '94 used for deer at 50-100 yards? The aforementioned Williams Fool Proof?
I see where Brownell's has one for $71. Should it be used in tandem with the factory front bead or should I change that out as well?

BTW, its interesting to see the old timer sheriff on "Longmire" using a '94. Good show.
