Greetings Down here in Southren Peru there are no ranges. But there are hundreds of square miles of open desert. I hop on a 2 wheeler and head to any of many places where I can plink to my hearts delite out to as far as I can see.

You guys can shoot on public land?

You drive along, see an open field and you are allowed to just go shooting?

I voted public land, but I don't just shoot out in the boondocks somewhere. Crosley Fish and Wildlife area just outside of North Vernon, IN has a public outdoor range that you can shoot at for free and that is where I do 99.9% of my shooting. Camp Atterbury just outside of Edinburgh, IN used to have a similar setup, but they renovated it a few years ago and began charging a small fee to use the range (about $5 if memory serves). I also have a friend with some land that I shoot on very occasionally, but I normally go to Crosley.

When in doubt, check with the agency responsible for public land where you wish to shoot.

In my case, the local Sheriff's department answered my questions about when I could shoot on private property in the county.

For other locations, you might check with BLM, Forestry, etc.

Local gun club, there is less and less public land open to shooting because of shooters leaving trash when they shoot. Some have to ruin it for all.

I have a shooting range membership to a hunt club about 20 miles from my house. That entitles me to use the outdoor pistol range. 10 & 25 yds, 4 lanes, and covered bench. Also the rifle range. 25, 50, and 100 yds with 4 lanes, and covered benches. Also a sporting clays course if I want.
Other than that it is a supervised public range operated by the state conservation department for a minimal fee of $2.00/hr. Or an unsupervised free range about 40 miles away.

I don't care for the crowds at the local DNR range, so I normally shoot on public land about 20 miles away. I'm thinking becoming a member at a local Izaak Walton, also about 20 miles from home. They have both pistol and rifle ranges and membership is about $60 or so a year.

public land

I voted for public land. I guess that's what it is. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has many state parks with skeet/pistol/rifle ranges as well as archery ranges. It's only like $25 a year for a license. They only close for the months of January and February. They are very nice.

I have a year membership to the local indoor range so that is where I shoot when the weather is bad (much of the time here in the mountains of Idaho)

When the weather permits I go out doors to some public lands that allow shooting.

Most of my shooting is done at my place. Have berms at 20, 100 and 200 yards out the back door of my pole barn, 50 yards from my back deck. I also have many places to stop and shoot when I'm riding my horse on National Forest land.

Never been to a public range, indoors or out.

Membership in private gun club about 17 mi. from home. covered firing line with benches at 25, 50, & 100yds. Trap & Skeet fields & archery. Unsupervised, with electronic gate card. Yearly dues.

I'm on 20 acres in N KY, shoot off the deck or from the side lawn. We have a 25 yd range set against the paddock fence (I replace the top board a cpl times a year), then longer ranges at 50, 100, and 200 yds. If I get the urge I can bush hog out to 330 yds. It's just about ideal...closest neighbors are 300 yds away in the opposite direction and have never complained. I've killed the majority of my deer over the last 25 years right out by that 100 yd target stump...some while I've been sitting in the kitchen with in my skivvy shorts...the great white hunter...I know...

I never shoot before 9 am or after 5 pm. Targets include; old propane bottles, rail road tie plates and the usual paper variety. My buddies call it Armageddon Farm for good reason...I've got an understanding wife...

Here's a view with the first 25 yd targets; the left arm of the mowed "Y" shows the 100 yd tgt, the right is at 50. I've not mowed out to 200 as we have yet to take the hay off...It's nice and shady under those walnuts late in the afternoon...I'd have cleaned up if I thought company was comin', LOL ... Rod

Most often I shoot handguns at a nearby indoor range.

Long guns and handguns I shoot at a nearby outdoor range.

About a year ago, I took a job at a local "campground." One of the amenities there is a shooting range. You have to own a lot in the campground, and be a member of the sportsman's club to use the range.

I found a lot the previous owner wanted to just get rid of and bought it for next to nothing. Joined the campground, joined the sportsman's club. Now I've got access to the range that only a handful of people ever use.

So I pay for the range. The rest of the amenities, golf course, pools, nature trails, clubhouse, etc., are free.
